Marco was driving on the road and thinking of returning to his apartment, but he couldn't stop thinking about Alyara dating that werewolf. It didn't sit well with him. He was still training to be a hunter, and eventually, he would hunt werewolves that were threats to ordinary humans. That was when he made a left turn on the street and drove the opposite where he lived. Marco decided that he would visit his Father, who was the leader of the hunters.
He sighed. He and his Father didn't have the best relationship. However, it was different when he was a child. Marco remembered how much his Father used to smile and treat him lovingly. That was because his Mother was still alive. His Mother was not a hunter. She was an ordinary human who accepted the life of a hunter.
Marco and the young remembered all his happy times with his parents, but all that changed when he was seven.
....................
His father and male hunters were in a meeting while he, the women, and the other children were at home. His Mother, Mia, was reading him a story. "Hey, Mommy, will I be a good hunter like Papa?"
"Of course, your Papa is the best of the best! You will be like him one day."
A small Marco smiled as he listened to his Mother read him the book. Suddenly, the duo heard crashing and yelling outside. Mia went by the window to see what was happening. Her face was filled with horror. "Marco, you need to hide!" She immediately grabbed him and led him to the attic.
"Mommy, what's happening!? Why are you scared!?"
She didn't answer as she opened the attic and led him inside. As Marco was up the attic, the door to their house was broken. Mia looked at her son. "Don't open the door, Marco! Wait for your Papa!"
Before he could answer, Mia closed the attic door. Marco was in the attic when he heard his Mother's screams and gunshots were heard. The young boy covered his ears. After what seemed like forever, he uncovered his ears, and there was silence. Nothing was heard. Marco slowly opened the attic door, and he whispered to his mom.
There was nothing. He exited the attic, and when he did, he heard cars screeching outside. He knew that his Father and other hunters had returned. Marco stilled as he remembered what his Mother had told him. He was to wait for his Papa. Outside, he heard the men yelling. Suddenly, Marco listened to his Father.
"Mia! Marco!"
Marco immediately ran to his Father, who was in the living room. "Papa!"
Marco's Father, Tristan, saw his son and held him tightly. "Where is your Mommy!?"
"Mommy put me in the attic. She told me not to open it and to wait for you." He noticed the fear and worry in his Father's eyes.
"Arturo!" The man was Tristan's young brother and also a fellow hunter. Arturo entered the house with weapons in hand.
"Watch over Marco. I need to find Mia!"
Arturo nodded, and Tristan went to look over the house. Marco noticed the worry in his Uncle's eyes. "Uncle, what happened?"
"It was an attack, rouges. They probably wanted revenge."
Marco heard his Father's screams in the backyard as he was about to respond. Arturo told him to stay put, and he immediately ran to the backyard. Marco listened to his Father's cries, and the boy slowly went to the backyard. He got to the opened screen and took a peek. His eyes widened as he saw a pool of blood.
There was a wolf that was injured. Smoke was coming out from its wounds. He saw his Father holding onto his Mother. His Mother, however, was different than before. Her once beautiful blonde hair was filled with blood, but her face turned blue, and deep scratch wounds were on her neck and stomach.
Tristan yelled out to her, and Arturo watched helplessly.
That was when Marco knew that his Mother was gone.
Marco felt a tear from remembering the incident but shook it off. Ever since his Mother's death, his Father became a different man. He became distant from him. His Uncle Arturo raised him and explained that his Father still cared for him, but since Marco looked like his Mother, it was too painful for Tristan.
Marco texted his Uncle that he was heading over. There was so much he needed to inform his Father.
