Things weren't going to plan; Isaiah was driving Alyara home. Her parents would be arriving tomorrow. Isaiah didn't want to leave Alyara alone since they survived a rogue attack. Alyara was adamant that she would be staying home. "Alyara, did you tell your parents about us?"
She glanced at him. "No, I felt it wasn't a good time yet. I wanted to see if we would last seeing one another. Let's keep it low for a while."
"Why?" Isaiah turned right to exit the freeway, which led to Long Beach. He knew that they were almost arriving at Alyara's place.
She sighed. "My parents know about my crush on Marco, and they have a sixth sense. We are also from tribes where the stories of skinwalkers are known. My father, especially, will suspect something is amiss."
Isaiah let out a slight frown as he made a right turn to a street light. "Well, that shouldn't be a problem. At least our kind is known in your culture and..."
"You don't understand; the skinwalkers in our culture are considered dangerous. People in many tribes are even afraid to speak of it for fear of being killed or cursed."
"I would never do that to you, your parents, or anyone. Just tell your parents the truth."
Alyara let out an annoyed sigh. "My parents can sometimes be closed-minded, so I think it's best to play it slow." With that, the two were silent. Isaiah kept on driving but was a bit thoughtful. About forty minutes later, they arrived at Alyara's home. Isaiah followed her until she got to her apartment. Alyara opened the door and then looked at Isaiah. "I know today was a...peculiar day, but I appreciate you doing this for me and saving me. I will-" She could not finish her statement as Isaiah entered her apartment. This confused the young woman; she closed the door behind her. "What are you doing?"
Isaiah smiled as he sat on the couch. "I'm staying here to protect you. I don't feel comfortable leaving you here alone."
"I'll be fine, Isaiah. You don't need to worry."
"But I do worry. Besides, it will be nice to know your parents, and I can know how they are when I formally introduce myself."
Alyara raised her eyebrows. "Isaiah, I-"
"I know. I know. I can also change into a regular wolf. You can lie to your parents that I'm a wolf-dog you adopted or taking care of a friend." Isaiah then went to the restroom and closed the door halfway; Alyara heard ruffling and cracking. Moments later, the door was opened, and out came out Isaiah in another smaller wolf version. He had beautiful pitch-black fur and golden eyes.
Isaiah walked towards Alyara and then sat before her. Alyara slowly motioned out her hand and then petted his head, earning her a soft groan. "Isaiah, please, you still look like a wolf. I will be fine, and I don't want my parents to get the wrong idea." Isaiah eyed her as he let out an annoyed wolf huff. Suddenly, Isaiah, in his wolf form, lay on the floor, pretending to be tired.
Alyara waited and waited until she realized that he wouldn't budge. "Isaiah, I'm not going to argue with you. Please, you need to go home."
That was when Isaiah gave her a wolf smile and said no. She tried lifting him, moving him, anything to make him move, but Isaiah wouldn't budge. He was always saying no.
Alyara let out an annoyed grunt. She knew that Isaiah wouldn't budge, and he knew this. He let out a wolfy smirk. "Fine! Be that way, you jerk! You're going to sleep on the couch!" With that, she went to her room and shut the door.
Isaiah laughed in his wolf form. He was quite an annoying wolf when he could be. Suddenly, he felt Darren trying to contact him using mind-link. "What is it, Darren? Did the rogues talk?"
"Yes, Alpha. After much interrogation, they said that they had access to our territory. What I found interesting was that our territory was part of a hunter-protection unit. This particular hunting family would have known if rogues were part of their protection unit."
"So what you're saying is that the rogues were given easy access to our territory on purpose?"
"It would seem so. No hunter would let rogues go through their protection units. We found out that this hunter family is closely associated with the man you wanted to keep an eye on."
This surprised Isaiah. "Marco! It would make sense. I need to get to the bottom of this! Darren, tell the guards to keep a close eye on him and his hunter brethren. Put out more guards if need be."
"Understood, Alpha."
The mind link ended, and Isaiah angrily growled. He changed back to his werewolf form and went to change his clothes. "That son of a bitch knows something about the attack. Alyara could have been killed. I am going to kill him!" Isaiah tried calming himself down. He knew that he had other concerns: Alyara's parents. Isaiah sat on the couch for two hours. It was 11 pm, a long day; he sensed his mate was asleep. He took the opportunity to sneak into her room. There she was, asleep comfortably on her bed.
"She's so beautiful," said Rafael.
"She is."
"How I would jump on her and-"
"Shut up, Rafael." Isaiah took off his pants and shirt. He gently and quietly got on the bed, ensuring he did not wake her. Once lying beside her, Isaiah put his arm on her waist, having her close to him. He felt so complete; Isaiah closed his eyes and slept.
