Alyara ran out of the prison; she couldn't stop thinking about Isaiah. She heard clashing noises and ran to where it was coming from. Once outside, Isaiah and Tristan collided, trying to get the other down. Even though Isaiah has werewolf strength, Tristan was also strong.
"Alyara." It was Marco. She glared at him and looked away; he was silent. He knew that Alyara was hurt and upset at him. He lied to her about his life. "I know you're angry with me, and I can't blame you. I didn't tell you who I was because I didn't want you to think badly of me. I also didn't want to involve you in my world."
She shook her head. "I always had feelings for you. You knew, didn't you?"
Marco raised his eyebrows. "Yes. I was conflicted with my feelings for you. The more I thought about it, the more I wanted to keep you safe. I lost my mother and didn't want to bring you into a world where I could lose you, too."
They stood in silence as they watched Isaiah and Tristan fight. She found it strange, but it seemed that Isaiah was going easy on Tristan. He didn't want to kill the older man. Isaiah was trying to tire him out. "I understand why you did what you did. I knew that you were trying to keep me safe. I appreciate that. However, the very thing you were trying to protect me from has come to light. Keeping the truth away brought more harm than good."
Marco bit his lower lip. "Alyara, I'm sorry. I-"
She raised her right hand to him. "There's no need; I forgive you. Also, I want to thank you."
"You thank me? For what?"
"If you returned my feelings and told me everything, I wouldn't have met Isaiah. I also wouldn't have to make the difficult decision of choosing the man I truly love." She went off with the rest of the group, leaving Marco stunned. He couldn't deny that it hurt him that Alyara didn't love him anymore. It was too late. He watched ahead as Isaiah and his father kept on fighting.
The hunters and pack members stood and watched the fight; they were ordered not to get involved. Tristan was losing stamina and getting angry that Isaiah wasn't fighting as much as he wanted. "Fight me!"
Isaiah kept his distance. He had to admit that Tristan was a good fighter. "This is not the way to do this! I can see the pain all over you! I know you lost your wife! However, you still have your son."
"I said fight me!" Tristan was about to strike, but Isaiah used his superspeed and punched Tristan in the stomach so hard that he flew midair and hit a tree. Everyone flinched at the impact.
"Enough! What you're doing is ridiculous!" Isaiah pointed at Marco. "You're willing to leave him alone in this world!? Your son is the greatest gift that your wife has given you!"
Arturo felt his heart break for Tristan; he hoped Marco would motivate him. It was pointless. The hunter was grateful that Isaiah didn't kill Tristan. "This is quite enough! Tristan, this is nothing but bullshit! You were willing to have our people killed for what!? Suicide!? All I want for you to have is peace!"
Alyara watched everything unfold; her eyes went to Isaiah. She ran toward him with her arms stretched out. Isaiah saw her, ran, and held her in his arms. "You're safe."
"Yes." Alyara separated from the hug and looked at him. "Are you hurt?"
"No, I'm just happy that you're safe."
Alyara motioned Isaiah's face and kissed him; he kissed her back. Rafale groaned in annoyance. "Grr. When this is over, I'm going to kiss her! You can't always get the fun!"
Tristan felt his body ache from the impact. His brain was all over the place; he couldn't concentrate. However, he saw the couple hugging and kissing each other. It reminded him of the moments he had with his wife. Tristan remembered the day his wife was killed: her blood. His life ended with her. They were showing him what he no longer had. Tristan took out a gun he had hidden in the back of his pants without warning.
Marco saw this. "Alyara! Isaiah, look out!"
A shot was fired; blood spilled.
"NOOO!"
