Alyara was in the living room, still shaken by everything that had happened. Emilia, Darren, and Isaiah were in the kitchen discussing things. "Would you like us to stay and help you, Alpha?" asked Darren.
Isaiah shook his head. "I think I should do this alone. I don't want to look like a coward and have to rely on others. I brought her into this mess. She deserves to know the truth. Besides, it would be best if you took Emilia home. Rest up and meet me at the warehouse at midnight."
Emilia and Darren nodded, and they left the house, leaving Isaiah and Alyara alone."Don't get nervous, and don't scare our mate! We waited too long to find her, and I'm determined as hell not to let her escape!" growled Rafael.
"Zip it!"
"Did you say something?" asked Alyara.
Isaiah cleared his throat as he sat on the opposite side of her. The house was in disarray, and he admitted that the situation looked awkward. "Sorry about that. I was talking to my wolf, Rafael. He is within me."
"Your wolf?"
He nodded. "We werewolves have a wolf spirit; you can call them our wolf side, our instincts since we are not fully humans. It's quite complicated."
"I have all day."
"Ooohhh, she has fire in her. Me likey! Can I have her now?" asked Rafael. Isaiah felt annoyed and ignored him. "In a sense, we don't have all day. Since rogues attacked us, another possible attack may happen; I don't want to risk your safety."
Alyara raised an eyebrow. "Rogues?"
"They are also werewolves, but they were once in packs but were banished for serious offenses, refusing to obey laws, or don't want to be in packs in general. They can be dangerous, depending on the individual."
"So, why did they attack? Did you do something to them?"
Isaiah crossed his arms. "I am a well-known Alpha. I am also mighty; some other packs and rogues will want to kill me to get my power. Sometimes it can be jealousy and some other tedious reasons. Being an Alpha can have its perks, but it can also have its downsides. However, I wouldn't have it any other way." His look softened. "They probably heard of my whereabouts with you. They were after you to get to me." It then became silent. Isaiah would glance at her, who would look onto the floor. "Alyara?"
"Why me?"
"Excuse me?"
She gave him her full attention. "Why me? Why did you become part of my life? We barely know each other. When we first met in the city, there were many women. You could have gone to any of them but decided to speak with me. You were also determined to get me to go out with you. Why?"
"She is astute. You can't deny that it doesn't turn you on," growled Rafael. Isaiah squeezed his arm. He wanted to give his wolf a piece of his mind, but it wasn't the right moment. He also felt hurt that Alyara spoke to him that way. Yet, Isaiah couldn't blame her for thinking that way; she could've lost her life. "I will tell you, but please don't judge quickly."
Alyara nodded.
"We werewolves have mates. Our mates are chosen by the Moon Goddess, who we worship. We rely on a specific scent to tell us if they are the one."
The young woman shook. "Are you saying that..."
"Yes, you are my mate. You are my love. My everything." It was silent again. Alyara stood, and Isaiah followed in pursuit. However, Alyara stepped far away from him. Isaiah's widened with fear. His heart began to beat rapidly. He was afraid that she was going to reject him. After so many years, he had found her, and if she rejected him, he wouldn't know what to do with himself.
"I can't be your mate. It's just not possible."
He let out a painful groan and felt tears forming in his eyes. "Please don't reject me, Alyara! Please...I know this is a lot to take in! I wanted to prove that I am the right man for you. I want to do it the right way and not the way of my kind."
"What happens if...I don't want to..."
Isaiah bit his lower lip. "We die."
