Walking up the cement steps one by one, I couldn't help but ogle at the house and the freshly cut green grass, for it was absolutely beautiful.
The sun was shining brightly and there were very few clouds in the sky. It brought back warm memories of playing outside as a kid and laying in the yard trying to figure out what the clouds would turn into next. I could hear the birds chirping on the roof, jumping around playfully with the others as more came to land beside them. Standing in front of the porch, I placed my two brown duffle bags next to me, thankful that I didn't put them inside the brown messy boxes in the truck.
I wandered around the side of the porch as my hands came in contact with the massive white columns. They felt rough from years of peeling paint but were covered beautifully in vines that had grown and intertwined themselves around it, hiding its imperfections.
The whole house was white with black vintage detail that was gently placed around every shutter to show it's age and sophistication. Strolling back to the front door, I noticed a large rectangular stained glass window sitting above it. The glass swirled with the most amazing and intricate blue, purple, red, and yellow colors, creating an overall abstract effect.
"A new beginning," I said to myself as I fished the keys out of my oversized black juicy couture purse hanging over my shoulder.
I didn’t know why we always do this to ourselves, but do we really need this much stuff in a purse? Pulling out the heart shaped key ring, I gently inserted the key to the lock, took a deep breath and slowly pushed the door open.
To my surprise, the door opened without hesitation, letting me enter into a colossal foyer with a crystal chandelier hanging from the ceiling. The cherry colored marble went perfectly with the off-white painted walls and black baseboards.
"I can get used to this," I smiled.
Bringing my wrist to my eyes, I looked at my apple watch and huffed at how much time I had spent ogling at the house. It was already 3:00 pm and I had so much to do.
I wasted no time after I arrived and started unloading all the boxes from the moving truck before placing them in the allocated rooms they belonged in.
The process of unloading today was the hardest as I had absolutely no one to help me. My brother wouldn't be in town until tomorrow and my sister couldn't make it until Sunday. Still, I couldn't wait to see them, as they were my best friends and I loved them more than anything.
Rummaging through some of the boxes, I moved mounds of clothes aside until I found what I was searching for: baby pink sleep pants that were silky to the touch and a solid black tank top.
The blankets were much easier to find as I had them labeled perfectly on the brown box. I would be camping on the floor tonight as my furniture wouldn't be here until Sunday afternoon.
Luckily, my brother was bringing an air mattress for me to sleep on until then. I laid out the black and gray striped blanket on the floor and continued to pile blanket after blanket on top for some extra comfort, ensuring that the stinging sensation from the ice cold marble was finally masked by the layers of blankets.
I carefully sat down on the mass of blankets and fluffed the pillow under my head until I was in a comfortable position. I hadn’t slept on the floor ever since I was a kid having a sleepover at a friends house.
Scrolling through my phone one last time for the night I noticed a text message from Allen, my best friend while I was in Arizona.
Allen: I hope the unpacking wasn't too brutal. Call me when you can!
Deciding that I would text him tomorrow, I gently placed the phone next to me.
It only took a few minutes before I found my eyelids getting heavy. My tense muscles relaxed as I sunk deeper into the blankets, finally drifting off to sleep.
