Laying in my bed, the heavy maroon and gold comforter engulfed me and I pulled it up closer to my face. I could still smell the scent of my lavender body wash and shampoo lingering on it.
It had been two days and all I had managed to accomplish was laying in bed and using the restroom. My stomach was still queasy from that encounter and the thought of food repulsed me.
Reaching across the bed, I managed to grab my cell phone that was on the nightstand and slowly brought it up to my eyes. Three missed calls from my Mom and ten from Tessa.
"Ugh. I don't want to talk, just leave me alone," I huffed, placing my phone face down on the gold pillow next to me.
The sun was peeking through the blinds, filling the room with its warmth as intriguing balls of light started dancing on the ceiling.
My mind wandered back to Sebastian and what happened to him. The only probable guess was that he was dead. That was the only rational explanation as to why I was alone that night and he hadn’t contacted me. My heart skipped a beat as I continued thinking about him, my vision blurring as tears welled up in my eyes.
"Unless he's a coward," I thought snarkily. But what kind of man would do that though?" I mentally added.
Two loud knocks on my bedroom door interrupted my thinking. Irritated, I growled at the door and yelled, "What?" It was probably Tessa or Mitchell.
"Veronica, can I come in?" An unfamiliar voice asked.
"Who are you? Get out of my house!" I screamed, jumping out of bed, grabbing a baseball bat by my nightstand, running to hide by the side of the door.
"Tessa let me in, it's Erik, Sebastian's friend."
Now was I curious. I opened the door hesitantly, peeking through the crack to make sure it was really him. To my surprise, it really was him, standing at the door and smiling, dangling the key I gave to Tessa in my face.
She would die for this.
"Wh-why are you here?" I stuttered.
I truly didn't understand why he would just show up to my house uninvited. My stomach dropped and I looked down at my feet. Something must have really happened to Sebastian.
"Veronica, can we sit down for a minute?" He asked politely while doing a once-over on me.
I looked absolutely horrendous. Quickly smoothing my hair out with my fingers, I curled a high bun on my head, securing it with my black hair tie.
I showed Erik to the small separate sitting room that was attached to the master bedroom. It was filled with a tan couch that took up half of the back wall. Next to it was a glimmering glass side table and a lava lamp.
I pointed to the couch and sat down nervously. Erik was quick to take a seat next to me and quickly surveyed the room, taking in the scenery. Interrupting his curious gaze, I nudged his shoulder with mine.
"Hey Erik, I don't understand why you are here. We don't even know each other." I questioned him bluntly.
"I know," He hung his head, staring at his feet. "I’m here on Sebastian’s behalf."
My heart felt like it stopped beating for a moment, leaving a void in my body.
"He would like it if you would come back to his house with me so he can explain what happened the other night."
"He's alive? That son of a bitch," I growled at Erik, anger overpowering my once aching body.
Moving sideways on the couch to inch away from him, he put his hands up in a helpless gesture and stared at me with sympathy. His eyes stared deep into mine as a sense of lulling and calmness washed over me.
"Please Veronica, just come with me and let him explain. I promise you will understand." He begged, desperation apparent in his voice.
Acting like a defiant and stubborn child, I crossed my arms over my chest and purposefully looked the other way. "Nothing he says to me will ever change what he did. He left me alone with WOLVES! Do you understand? WOLVES!" I screeched.
Pain welling up in my eyes and the butterfly effect returning, "He is nothing but a coward. Tell him to piss off.” I whimpered.
A look of complete shock fell over Erik's face before his lips turned upward to a form a slight smirk. He was either amused by my response or didn't know how to take in my reaction.
"You're a feisty one, huh?" He said his smirk widening. "You and Sebastian are perfect for each other. I'll wait here while you get ready, I'm not leaving without you."
"What are you going to do, kidnap me?" I laughed.
With every single trace of humor wiped away, Erik looked at me with a straight face. "If you refused to come, that was the plan." Holding his arm up, he directed me towards the bathroom.
There was no point in fighting Erik, he wasn’t the one I wanted to yell and scream at anyway. Sebastian better have a good excuse for leaving me alone and breaking my trust.
I grabbed my clothes off the dresser and stomped into the bathroom, turning around to look at Erik before sticking my tongue out at him. Juvenile, I know, but it was the only thing that came to my mind.
"You better keep that tongue in your mouth." He remarked.
"Yeah, yeah." I muttered, closing the door behind me.
