Approaching the protector who was guarding the hospital door I could hear faint talking. The voices were familiar, two male, one female.
The only male awake in that room was Mitchell, and Abigail stayed just incase he tried to leave. I just couldn't place the second voice. It was husky, yet soft.
Opening the door slowly, the voices became louder, clearer. I stood at the opening eavesdropping on the conversation, trying to decider the voices.
"Man you have no idea. It was like a dream. Nothing I've ever experienced before. A green orb surrounded my body lifting me up into the air. I felt all my worries disappear, all my pain vanish. The light just rolled over my body lingering on my leg. It was insane. Then I woke up here." He breathed
I knew the voice belonged to Sebastian, just it was different. Not the same sweet Sebastian I knew. Before busting through the door I thought about the green orb. His pain just vanished? How was that possible?
My mind quickly flashed to the woods. My pain subsiding and a mist rising out of my body.
"You've got to be shitting me." I whispered to myself.
I knew exactly who was responsible, Ace. I can't believe he went and healed Sebastian without my knowledge, without my permission. That asshole.
Busting through the door I stood stupefied. There was Sebastian, propped up on some pillows talking to Mitchell like nothing happened. I was so happy he was awake, yet so angry it wasn't by my doing,
"Oh, hello Miss. Are you here to fluff my pillows?" He joked, his tone being a little off putting.
"Ha, ha." I retorted. "Real cute acting as if you don't remember your mate."
I started walking toward him as Mitchell shook his head no. I turned my attention to Abigail who frowned.
Diverting my attention back to Sebastian, hoping he was just joking, I continued. "Ya know, me, Veronica, your mate? The love of your life."
The hysterical laughing that filled the room was enough to make me cry. He didn't remember me. He didn't remember he had a mate, a Luna.
Waiting until his laughing fit was over I tried to calm myself. Figuring I would ask him a serious question. Well, a few serious questions.
"Sebastian, do you know who these two people are?"
He smiled widely. "Of course. That's Mitchell and Abigail.
That was one stab to my heart.
"Do you know who you are?" I asked.
He made a face, "Pfft, I'm the Alpha of the Black Lace pack. It's disrespectful you don't know that."
Stab number two.
"One last question Alpha and then I will let you be." I bowed my head, showing him respect.
"Ugh, very well." He moaned, shaking his head as if I was interrupting and annoying him. But before I continued I touched my neck, feeling for the scar of my mark.
"Well get on with it woman." He ordered.
"You don't remember me at all?" I whispered, placing my hand on his.
For a split second I saw his eyes soften, saw them smile with my hand on his. I had hope. I had faith he would remember me.
"Don't you remember that you marked me and made me your packs Luna?"
My emotions were starting to escalate, my heart pounding in my chest but at the same time feeling like it was being ripped apart. Why didn't he remember? What happened?
He looked at Mitchell and gave him a side smile. Mitchell remained silent. His face in utter shock.
"Sweetheart, I don't remember anything about you. You want to know my honest opinion? I think you're just some tramp in heat trying to fool her alpha."
And stab number three.
The tears welled up in my eyes as my body started shaking. How could he forget me, was I that forgettable? Was this pay back for choosing to heal Mitchell first?
I dropped to my knees, unable to hold my own weight. Mitchell saw the agony I was in and rushed to my side.
"He's not with it V." He whispered in my ear. "He's not worth it."
Sebastian quickly ripped the blankets off of his body and stood up. "How dare you take the side of a tramp over your Alpha." He growled. "I think that earns you a stay in the cells." He smiled.
Oh hell no! No one talks to my baby brother like that, especially my mate. I would kill Sebastian myself to protect Mitchell.
I stood up and got in his face. "I'm no tramp, I am your mate." I yanked my shirt down and showed him his mark. "And that man right there is my brother." I had finally found my voice, the courage to stand up to the fool that stood before me.
Sebastian let out a warning growl, loud enough to shake the pack house. The growl threatening, frightening.
Within seconds the room was swarmed with protectors, doctors, and Erik.
Erik quickly came to my aid and stood in front of me. "Sebastian, what the hell are you doing?" He swiftly put his hands up to show he meant no harm. 465Please respect copyright.PENANAEd2y7sEne9
Sebastian's lip curled up showing disgust. "This, this woman keeps stating lies. Trying to get me to mate with her simply because she is in heat."
Erik turned his attention to me. "You're in heat? Why didn't you tell me. I could protect you from the unmated wolves."
I just shook my head not really wanting to discuss it right now. "I'll explain later." I whispered in his ear.
"Alpha," Erik started. "This woman is your mate, our Luna. She is in heat because you marked her and her body wants to be with you. Don't you feel the pull to her?" He asked.
Sebastian squeezed his eyes closed for a minute. "No! She is a liar. She brainwashed you all." He argued.
Erik continued to stay calm. I don't know how he did it, but he continued in an easy going, friendly tone.
"What does your wolf say? Let him take over for a minute. Your wolf never lies."
Slamming his fists on his head he screamed, "No, he's brainwashed just like the rest of you. You're all traitors."
He bent his head down onto the side of the bed and breathed in deeply. "Sedate him!" I mouthed to Erik who gave Ellen the go ahead.
"I think it's time to let the alpha rest." Dr. Ellen demanded. Acting as if she was siding with him. Positioning herself behind him as if she was going to help him into bed, she quickly jabbed the needle into his buttocks and injected the medication.
Sebastian's limp body fell forward, landing on his hospital bed. I sighed in relief. He was literally out of his mind. Out of control. Out of love.
My body hit the ground as soon as the Dr nodded her head that he was asleep. This must be what rejection feels like. Like your insides are being pulled out. Your heart breaking into a million pieces. 465Please respect copyright.PENANAdPWCnEER8s
"What the hell happened?" I asked.
I turned to face Abigail and Mitchell who looked just ask shocked as I was.
"Why the fu-" I stopped to breathe. "Why didn't anyone mind link me to tell me he was awake?"
"We knew immediately when he woke up Veronica that something wasn't right. His voice was different. His demeanor was way off." Abigail admitted. "I don't think he was infected with silver like Mitch was. He was infected with something else."
Getting up and sitting on Mitchell's bed, I just let the tears fall. "What do I do now?" He's never going to accept me again as his mate."
Mitch grabbed my cheeks and stared deep into my eyes. I could see they were full of remorse, anger, a whole array of emotions.
"He marked you. He made you the Luna of this pack. He vowed his love for you." He gently brushed away my tears that trickled down my face. "The mate bond never goes away. We aren't like humans who can just heal and move on, the longer he stays away from you the more he will hurt. He will come to his senses, I promise."465Please respect copyright.PENANArBsdyDC2Bz
I sniffled and shook my head, hoping his words were true, but something inside me knew it wasn't. "I'm going to go lay down. I'm exhausted." I fabricated. I just wanted to be alone.
***
Laying in bed my mind swirled with the events from the day. Maybe Abigail was right, maybe I wasn't meant to be with a werewolf. Maybe I really was destined to be with a healer. Someone who appreciated my gift. Someone who could love me for eternity.
I secretly wished Ace was here, even though I was so mad at him. I just needed comfort, love. The pain from being in heat was also starting to return, but I could deal with it. The pain I couldn't handle was caused by that arrogant prick, Sebastian.
"You called my angel?" A soothing voice breathed in my ear.
The feeling of his breath on my neck caught me off guard, but sent excitement through my body.
"Didn't your mama tell you it wasn't polite to just sneak up on a lady?" I smiled.
"You called for me, so that rule doesn't apply." He smirked.
"I called for you?" I asked.
He raised his eyebrows."Yes. You said, I wish Ace was here." He tried to hide his giggle, as he noticed that I didn't know I could summon him.
I mentally smacked myself in the forehead. Why do I always get myself into trouble?
"I didn't know I could do that." I admitted. "I didn't mean to call you. I just have a lot on my plate and needed a friend."
I wanted to tell him what was going on, but I couldn't. How would it sound if I said, "So, my mate has no idea who I am. I ordered a prisoner to be tortured and I'm a total loser."
I could see his cheeks flush as his emerald eyes dove right into my soul. I knew he heard my thoughts, again! Why can't anyone stay out of my head.
Leaning forward he brushed my hair out of my face and tucked it behind my ear. "The ones who listen are the ones that care about you. You did what you needed too to get information. And never call yourself a loser. You are so much more." Seriousness taking over his face.
Ugh, this man was messing with my emotions.
"Well thank you." I smiled. "Will you lay with me until I fall asleep?" I asked, just needing that comfort of a familiar face.
"I would do anything you asked of me my angel."
I laid my head on the pillow, hoping to get comfortable. A ping of guilt rushed over my body. I was laying down with another man who wasn't my mate. Who does that?
Once again the tears started to blur my vision.
"Don't cry." Ace said sweetly. "You are doing nothing wrong, he is."
His words consoled me a little bit, knowing he was 100% correct. I wasn't to blame, Sebastian was.
Finally closing my eyes, colors and flowers danced in my mind. Peacefulness. Happiness. I sprawled my body out in the flowers, admiring their beauty. And there was Ace, laying next to me, smiling.
"I would never forget you, no matter what." He whispered.
My body sprung up in bed, sweat pouring off of me. Ace was gone and I was alone. Once again alone like I was during my attack and during my internal battle.
