Laying in the hospital bed, I kept my eyes fixated on the ceiling and tapped my fingers to the rhythm of the clock. I was counting down the minutes until I could get the hell out of this hospital wing. The longer I stayed in this room the more my anger just fueled the fire I felt bubbling inside me.
My pack needed me to get up and be active. Be the alpha I promised I would be. I knew Erik was doing a great job, but they needed me back.
After a few more fleeing seconds I sat up and threw my hands in the air. "I can't do this, I've gotta get out of here." I said out loud, as I grabbed my clothes off of a chair that was next to the bed.
I slid my legs into my pants, pulled the blue shirt over my head and quickly tied my shoes. No one was going to stop me from leaving and if they even tried, there would be hell to pay.
Mitchell was fast asleep in the bed beside me completely unaware of my movements. I tiptoed to the door, turned the handle quietly and pulled the door open.
Peaking out into the hallway, I sighed at the realization that the coast was clear. I made a mad dash for the stairs and up to my room. Finally behind the safety of my bedroom door, I flopped down on my bed. Oh, how I missed this comfortable pillow top mattress.
Laying on my my back I finally relaxed, until I heard the shower running. I was in such a rush to get into bed that I didn't even notice it was on. "You've got to be kidding me." I growled under my breath. "Why is someone showering in my bathroom?"
Rushing to my feet I stomped furiously to the door ready to let my mouth run wild, but I stopped and listened for a moment. I could hear crying. Their pain was so intense I could almost hear the tears splashing onto their skin as it rolled off of their face. My heart ached for this person, but it still didn't stop my anger.
Without forewarning, I swung the door open. The steam from the water filled the room, causing me to wave it away from my face. Pulling the shower curtain to the side, a small woman sat huddled on the floor in the steady stream of water. Her arms were wrapped around her legs, her head on her knees and her hair slicked to her back.
Not once did she look up or try to cover her naked body. My lip curled up, ready to rip her out of the shower and throw a towel in her face, but instead, I knelt down, taking a few deep breaths.
"Miss?"
She raised her head up and stared at me. Her tears were sparkling compared to the water that dripped down her face, making it easy to see the difference.
"What do you want? Come to tell me a tramp shouldn't be showering?" She barked.
I could hear the pain in her voice as my body reacted with pins and needles. The harshness of her tone was enough to slice through anyone. She definitely had a sharp tongue.
"I-I'm sorry I said that miss. I don't think you are a tramp, I was just... upset." I admitted, even though I honestly didn't know who this woman was.
"You really don't know who I am?" She sniffled.
I hung my head in shame and rubbed my hands over my face. "I don't. I'm sorry."
Standing up she turned the water off and motioned for the towel that was folded on the sink. "May I have that please?" She asked.
But I just sat there stunned. Amazed that this woman was comfortable enough to bare herself to me. She was absolutely beautiful, even the small scars that lined her stomach were beautiful.
She made a small coughing sound to get my attention, which she fully had. "Whenever you're done ogling my body, I'd love to have that towel."
I could see a smile creep onto her face, in turn causing me to blush. "Well, that was embarrassing." I said to myself.
"I would agree with you except I've seen your body and you've seen mine plenty of times." She said, as she wrapped the towel around her and stepped out of the shower.
"I'm going to step out while you get dressed." I motioned to the door, moving quickly before she could respond.
"Wow. You wake up, call your mate a tramp then jump in the shower with her? What's the hell is wrong with you man." Erik's voice boomed through the room, startling me.
I shut the bathroom door as fast as I could and walked over to him. "I wasn't taking a shower with her, now be quiet. I wanted to know why she was in my bathroom is all." I admitted, and that was sincerely the truth. "I was, however, enjoying the view a little too much to even ask why." I said to myself.
"I heard that!" Her voice yelled through the door.
I pinched the bridge of my nose. "Sorry!" I growled back.
Erik just stared at me, confused by our small exchange of words, but knew better than to ask questions.
"You have no idea how frustrating this is. Why can't I remember this girl?"
Sliding his arm around my shoulder he walked me to the sitting area and plopped me down in a winged back chair.
"I don't know how you can forget her Sebastian. She was your everything. Let's start with something easy, what do you remember?" Erik asked.
That was a great question, one I had been asking myself since the blowup yesterday. "I remember waking up obviously, and us agreeing to allow a few protectors from our pack to help out with the Cave Creek pack."
His jaw dropped and his eyes widened. "That's the last thing you remember? Are you positive?" He probed.
"Yes, that's the last thing we discussed before I went to bed and woke up in the hospital wing."
Erik got up and started pacing back and forth. I could almost hear the wheels in his head turning. Then the bathroom door opened, and the smell of lavender leaked into the room. Both of our heads jerked toward the door, watching her every movement.
Her hair was still tangled up in a pink towel as she came walking toward us. "So, what did I miss?" She asked, her full attention on Erik.
"Well, I just found out his last memory was from about a year ago." He said, grabbing her hand and showing her to the other chair.
A low growl rumbled in my chest, thankfully not loud enough for them to hear. I didn't want him to touch her.
She took a deep breath and looked at me. "What exactly do you think that means?"
While Erik continued to walk back and forth, she flipped her head between her legs and ruffled the towel to finish drying her hair. "I mean, it seems like his whole memory of me is gone." She admitted. "Like someone erased me from his memory all together."
"Can we stop talking about me as if I'm not sitting right here." I growled, standing up to make my presence known.
"Sit down and relax." Her voice rang through my head. "We are trying to help you, not act like you don't exist."
I looked at her and sat back down. As sweet and innocent as she looked, she was fierce, demanding. I could tell she was a Luna, but she wasn't my Luna.
"Do you know who healed him? I was in the cells with Allen, so it wasn't me." She said, then quickly slapped her hands over her mouth.
"Wait, what?" Erik and I both said in unison.
She rolled her thumbs in her lap for a second before turning to Erik. "I didn't want to tell you like this."
Erik just glared at her. "Tell me what Veronica."
As soon as the words left her mouth I knew she was a fraud. She had brainwashed everyone, just like I had said. I bet she is some rogue wanting to destroy my pack.
In an instant I was in her face, pinning her against the chair. "You really thought you could come in here and play mind games?" I screamed in her face. "You really thought no one would find out?"
I could faintly hear Erik telling me to let her go as he pulled on my arm. "You don't want to do this man." He mind linked. "You don't want to hurt her."
"Yes I do!" I growled back at him, as I ripped his hands off of my arm.
The look of fear took over her face as she slid deeper and deeper into the chair. With each movement she made, I remained close, not allowing her to escape my grasp.
"What are you? I order you to tell me."
"I'm a healer." She whispered.
"I can't hear you." I yelled.
Then an earth shattering growl filled the room, along with the crunching of bones. There stood Erik's wolf, his teeth bared, ready to fight. Taking my attention away from Veronica, I stood as tall as I could, staring his wolf down.
"You may be trying to protect her, but you will always submit to your alpha." I smiled.
Quickly sliding past me, she ran to his side, standing close to him, allowing his brown fur to tickle her skin. "Stand your ground." She ordered to Erik, who began digging his nails into the floor.
"If I allow my wolf out, you will be sorry. You both will be sorry." I warned them.
Stepping away from her protection, Erik followed closely at her heels as she stood in front of me. Her blue eyes dove deep into the depths of my soul, searching for the piece of me that she thought I was missing.
"Do it." She said. "Release your wolf. Kill us both."
Erik's wolf nudged her with his nose, attempting to stop her from provoking me. She just nodded and rested her hand on his head, running her fingers down his fur.
I couldn't stand her touching him. Him protecting her. I could feel my body wanting to change, but I couldn't. My wolf was gone. I couldn't hear him. I couldn't feel him.
It was all her fault, and I was going to kill her for it. Maybe not right now, or tomorrow, but she will know what it feels like to lose something. Only what she loses, will be her life.
