"Mom, I know what I'm doing, this is not my first time moving into a new place," I protested over the phone. My Mother was the kind of person that wanted all of the bases covered, with the T’s crossed and I's dotted.
"I'm just telling you what I would do hunny. Please make sure Tessa or Mitch are there with you when the furniture comes, because people take advantage of young woman who are alone. That's all I'm asking," She added with a stern, ‘I'm not taking no for an answer’ tone.
"Fine Ma, I'll see if Tessa can stay for an extra day or something. But I gotta go, I’ll call you later," I replied as I laid back down on the air mattress that had miraculously held up all night."I love you too mom, bye."
I hung up, and turned my phone off. I needed a cup of coffee badly and my poor stomach was growling louder than a bear protecting its cubs.
Tessa wasn't supposed to be here until 11:00 am, so I decided to take a walk to the corner store for coffee and something to eat.
I grabbed my little black leather jacket and slid it over my arms. Even though it wasn't that cold, coming from a place where it was 70 degrees in winter, it is chilly to me. Grabbing my keys, I headed out and locked the door behind me.
Walking down the long driveway, I finally noticed the lack of close neighbors. There was a good acre of land on each side of the house with a small wired fence lined with trees, separating the land.
The other houses weren't like mine; Their neighbors were so close to each other they could probably pass toilet paper through the window if they needed too.
"That's odd," I thought to myself as I quietly looked around, taking in the scenery. I wasn't complaining because I enjoyed my privacy, but my house seemed so out of place compared to the rest.
As I made my way to the corner store, very few cars passed, which was what I loved about this little town. The population was at a whopping 1000, making me the 1001st person to live here.
There were two small children playing at one of the front yards, giggling as they kicked a big red ball back and forth to each other. "Get it Amber!" The little one with black hair squealed as they ran around crazily, trying to kick the ball to the other one.
I smiled to myself, thinking of Tessa and I when we were kids as I made my way into the store that was just around the block.
"Murphy's General Store” was a quaint little place. I could tell it was old due to the dark wood on the exterior and the creaking wooden steps that led to the front door. Despite its ancient appearance, it was very well taken care of.
As soon as I walked in, the smell of blueberry muffins and freshly brewed coffee taking over all of my senses as I enjoyed the bitter and sweet smell blending together.
"Yum! I love blueberry muffins." I thought to myself, licking my lips at the pure thought of the delicious goodness melting on my tongue.
I made my way past racks of candy and different kinds of treats that all looked delicious. After debating on grabbing handfuls of junk, I found myself at the coffee and tea station at the back of the store. They had every flavor of coffee and additional ingredients you wanted.
"What kind of coffee should I have today?" I pondered, drumming my finger on my lips.
Surveying the variety of flavors, I grabbed for the Hazelnut coffee sitting in the middle of the table. Not noticing anyone around me, I was surprised when another hand grazed mine, sending electric shocks through my body.
I quickly yanked my hand back, confused by what I just felt. The tingling sensation that radiated from my hand and through my whole being was intense, like an electrical shock.
As I whipped around, my blonde hair stung my face as my eyes wandered around to see what had caused this shockwave running through my body. Parting my hair from my face, my eyes met a similar pair of striking blue eyes.
"Oh. My. God." I squeaked.
"I'm really sorry about that miss," A deep husky males voice stated.
I just stood there, looking like a complete idiot as I nodded my head, accepting his apology. He stood there with a sexy smile on his face that was enough to bring a room full of women to their knees.
“I, um, you can-.” Composing myself, I gestured towards the coffee pot, showing that he could have the honors of going first.
He was absolutely gorgeous, he was about 6'3 with blue eyes that had swirls of grey. His copper colored hair was cut short but long enough to run his fingers through them.
I could see his muscles contracting under his shirt as he lifted the coffee pot and poured it into his cup. A tattoo crawled down the entire length of his arm and wrapped around his wrist on his left arm. I needed to get away from him before I drooled all over the coffee table.
Before I could make an exit, he nodded his head, thanked me quietly and made his way over to the checkout counter.
My thoughts were running a little wild at this point. "I wonder who he is and if he lives around here, I wonder what his name is?" I couldn't help but ask myself.
Trying to quickly shake the thoughts out of my head, I looked over to where he was standing and our eyes interlocked once again, sending a smile to both our faces.
"Oh boy, here we go!" I thought, as my cheeks glowed red with embarrassment.
