"We die."
Alyara flinched. Her heart beat rapidly when Isaiah told her he would die. "Die!? You mean if I say no, then you die!?"
"Not immediately. When a werewolf is rejected, they feel a terrible heartbreak that makes them depressed. Werewolves mate for life, and we only get one mate in this life. If we don't have one or get rejected, our lives have no purpose."
"B-But you can find another person, can you?"
Isaiah bit his lower lip. "It's not so easy. Werewolves may not feel connected to others who are not their mate, and humans may not fully understand our world. It's not so simple. The Moon Goddess chose you for me because you might understand our world. If I don't have you, then life is not worth living anymore. A sad and painful moan came out from Isaiah. "Are you rejecting me?" he asked quietly and brokenly.
Rafael also let out a sad howl. "She can't reject us! She can't!"
For Alyara, Isaiah sounded so broken that he could break at any moment. Unconsciously, the young woman put a hand over her heart. It was simultaneously strange yet painful, and she wanted to cry. Alyara cleared her throat. "It's just that. It doesn't feel right that you're with me because of a deity. You didn't choose me because you wanted me. It's because you had no choice."
"I do have a choice, Alyara. I could have rejected you and been on my merry way. Not all werewolves want a mate and may ignore their instincts to be with their mate. We were chosen for each other, but there's always a reason for everything. After knowing you, I became even more in love with you."
"Wh-What did you say?"
Isaiah realized what he had said. He loved her; it was the truth, and he couldn't deny it anymore. "I'm in love with you, Alyara. I said it, and I'm not taking it back."
The young woman gasped; her heart was fluttering. Deep down, she felt...happy. She was so pleased that she wanted to cry. If she were to reject Isaiah, then he could even kill himself. She knew it was a screwed-up situation. However, she remembered the time they went out together. He tried hard to gain her affection; he was patient and understanding. "I don't know what to say, think, or feel. This is all too much to take in."
"I know." Isaiah then went to her and knelt before her, holding her hands. "Please believe I only want you to be happy and safe. You don't have to say you love me, but please allow me to show you I can be your man. If you are not happy with me, then..." He bit her lower lip, trying so hard to be strong. "...I will let you go if that is what you want."
Alyara was stunned. His words tended to be sincere and honest. This was so much for her to take. She then thought about Marco and her love for him but felt he might never return her love. That's how it usually was, no matter how painful it was. Yet, she couldn't deny that Isaiah was manly, respectful, strong, and affectionate. "I won't reject you, but I'm not going to accept you immediately. I want to take things slow."
Isaiah's face lit up. His heart was beating with relief and happiness. "Thank you! Thank you! I promise that you won't regret it!"
She stood up. "I would like to go home."
"Rogues attacked, and I don't want you to be alone now. You can stay with me or one of my many apartments."
"I-I don't think this is appropriate. I-"
"Alyara, please. I don't want to risk you getting hurt because of me. I would never forgive myself if something were to happen to you! Please, at least for a couple of days." That was when Isaiah decided to use one of his most deadly weapons. He used his wolfy eyes on her. His eyes became a bit softer and sadder. He did a slight pout and let out a quiet and painful groan.
As for Alyara, a blush came across her face. "I can't believe he looks adorable!" she told herself. As she was about to answer, her cell phone rang, and her eyes opened wide when she looked at the ID. She answered.
Isaiah stopped with his wolfy look. Deep down, he and Rafael chuckled as they knew their face worked on her, but they were curious about who she spoke with. Isaiah watched as Alyarspokeng in another unknown language, and she seemed hesitant. Something was wrong, and he was worried for her.
The young woman hung up, and it looked like a brick wall hit her.
"What happened?"
Slowly, Alyara looked at him. "My parents are coming tomorrow night; they want to visit."
