"Wait, so what happened?" Mitchell asked again for the hundredth time.
"We don't really know. All I know right now is you were injected with silver. I don't know how, I don't know when, I don't know why. That's what we need to find out." I sighed, still exhausted from healing him.
"Veronica?" He asked, "Why am I awake and not Sebastian?" He quickly diverted his eyes over to his still comatose body.
I knew he would have a million questions when he woke up, but I didn't expect him to ask that. I guess I figured he would be happy and just let it be.
"That was your sisters choosing." Abigail interrupted. "You should be thankful. Without her and her healing abilities, you would still be laying in that bed with your eyes rolled in the back of your head and a machine breathing for you." She barked.
Mitchell's mouth hung open like a star struck child meeting their favorite celebrity. I wouldn't have necessarily told him like that, but her tactic obviously worked because he was quick to change the subject.
"Did you talk to Allen yet to see what he knows? I'm sure it was his idea or maybe that evil bitch Mirandas."
I shifted in my seat as his words sunk in. It was definitely one of them. Miranda had her eyes solely on me. Her main goal was to ruin me, not the whole pack.
"Well I'll go down into the cells and talk to Allen, you stay here and get some rest. We don't want anyone knowing you're awake just yet."
Mitchell's eyebrows raised as he cocked his head to the side. He opened his mouth to say something but Abigail was quick to intervene.
"Do I have to remind you a second time child?" She scorned.
Crossing his arms over his chest he slumped down into the pillows. "Fine." He murmured under his breath, knowing not to back talk her.
"A protector will be posted at the door. He will not let anyone in or out except for us." I explained, pretty sure he got the gist. I quickly got up and kissed his forehead.
"I'm really happy you're awake." I smiled, walking to the door and closing it behind me.
With my back against the door I turned my attention to the protector, "No one in, no one out." I demanded.
"Yes, my Luna." He bowed.
Walking down the hallway I made my way toward the basement. I needed to go down into the cells and find out exactly what Allen knew. Hopefully he will be hungry enough to want to talk, especially since his food supply was cut off a few days ago.
I don't believe in corporal punishment, but when it comes to almost killing my family, that person is going to suffer.
Rounding the corner I stopped at the door, my hand resting on the handle, shaking the slightest bit. What was I going to say? What was I going to do?
Taking in a deep breath I pushed myself forward and opened the door. The stench of something rotting filled my nose and turned my stomach. "Ugh, what the hell died down here?"
Walking down the steps I started remembering the last time I was down here. The cockiness of Cade, and the distorted faces of the rogues. Just the thought sent shivers up my spine.
Before me stood the big metal door. This time, a protector sat in an old wooden chair next to it, granting or denying entrance.
"Luna." He nodded. "Would you like to go inside?"
I stood there for a second, watching him as he eyed me carefully. "Yes, I would. Please unlock the door." I asked politely. "Just one thing before you open the lock. What is that horrible smell?" 469Please respect copyright.PENANAOlAJh3zM2T
He frowned as his gaze turned to his shoes. "We had a prisoner pass away this morning. The smell is of his, um, bodily fluids." He coughed.
That was enough said, I didn't need to know details. "Carry on then." I urged.
Without hesitation, he took a small gold key from his pocket. Sebastian must have changed the locks after I picked them, adding a bigger, better lock on the door. Pulling it open he moved out of the way so I could enter.
The cells were just as I remembered them. Cold. Dark. Depressing. Thankfully the cells remained pretty vacant, indicating no one had breached our territory or gotten into too much trouble. Beta Erik was so distraught over his alpha that he wouldn't hold back on the prisoners.
"I can smell you." A raspy voice echoed, startling me as I tip toed down the hall. "What took you so long darlin, I thought we were friends."
Following his voice I finally found him in a center cell. His face was sunk in, skinny from starvation. His once baby blue eyes were dark, appearing as if he was losing the battle with his wolf.
"Poor, poor Allen. Sitting in a cell all by his lonesome and starving. Is your wolf driving you crazy yet? Are you ready to rip out that gorgeous head of hair?" I taunted him, while running my fingers one by one over the bars.
If I was going to be Luna, I needed to take charge, not take pity on the scum Allen had become.
He giggled as he got up and lunged toward me, causing me to jump back. "You're still the same chicken shit bitch I've always known. The only difference is you hold a power title now, but just you wait, when dear sweet Sebastian wakes up you'll get the surprise of your life."
His evil smile made me want to kill him right then and there. Unfortunately I need his sorry ass alive to find out about the silver.
Deciding to take a seat, he pulled himself close to the bars and sat Indian style facing me. Searching up and down the hall for a chair, I eventually gave up and plopped my body down on the floor mirroring Allen's sitting position.
"I want to know about the silver that was infected into my mate and my brother." I said blatantly. "Since your sweet o'l Miranda is gone I can't ask her, so you're the runner up."
Tapping his forefinger on his lips he thought for a minute. "And what's in it for me?"
His cockiness rolled off his body as easy as water dripping off of his skin. I was desperate for any information he would give me, but it had to be the truth. Not some bullshit lie he cooked up to get out of this cell.
"Depending on the information you give me and its credibility, I would be open to suggestions." I volunteered, knowing that was an offer he couldn't resist.
"Or," I smiled. "I can have my men chain you to that wall right there and suspend you up into the air, that way you are hanging. And don't worry, I wouldn't torture you with silver chains or anything like that." I slowly licked my lips, showing him how much I would enjoy his torture.
"I would put the smallest nick in all of your main arteries. Do you want to know the best part? There won't be anyone to stop the bleeding. Since you're a werewolf and can heal yourself, I'll put the smallest piece of silver into the cut, preventing you from healing."
I could see his face starting to lose all color, and his body language shifting to being uncomfortable. I have to admit, even that was a little too morbid for me, but I need him to know I'm not playing games. That I mean business.
"Whoa, slow down pretty, pretty princess. I'm just sayin I'm not giving up info that easy for nothing." He smiled, trying to hide his fear.
If there was one thing I knew about Allen, it was that was he gets flustered easily. His ears would start burning a crimson color. He eyes would bounce from thing to thing, and he avoids eye contact like the plague.
"So what will it be? A hot shower and warm meal or I drain you of your blood, one drop at a time." I asked, rising to my feet.
Letting out a reluctant sigh he looked up at me, his eyes still as dark as before. "Fine, but I want a steak, mashed potatoes, corn and a bottle of coke."
Smiling inside I nodded in agreement. I just needed to ask him a few basic questions before I got into the nitty gritty. I also had one question I needed to ask him just out of pure curiosity.
"I'll ask you some simple questions to start with. How many of you were there during the fight?"
He looked up to the ceiling and began counting, his head bobbing the slightest bit with each number he passed.
"Give or take 300." He smirked, seeming to pat himself on the back for the size of his army.
"Who's idea was it to use silver?" I asked, pretty certain he was going to lie to me and blame it on Miranda.
Getting to his feet he wrapped his dirty hands around the bars. Glancing at them I could see the dirt that crawled underneath his nails. The dried blood from my pack on his fingers. He disgusted me. 469Please respect copyright.PENANAr3ykZuEu4h
Resting his head on the metal he closed his eyes. "You should know me by now Veronica. I give orders, not follow them. Especially from a woman."
That was a fair enough answer.
"How did you get the silver into their body?" I questioned, needing to know the answer to this question. I didn't care if he refused to answer all my other questions, but this one, this one I needed the truth.
"This is great. I mean, absolutely brilliant. Wait til you hear. Even you will think it's a genius move." He laughed. "So it was quite simple really. I took two of my best fighters and ordered them to only attack Mitchell and Sebastian. When they transformed into their wolf I had one of my guys stay in human form to help them out. Are you following?" He asked.
Not wanting to interrupt his story, I stared at him blankly and shook my head yes.
"Perfect. So moving on. I made a mold of their teeth in wolf form and then casted it to look identical to their beautiful fangs. I drilled small pinholes into their canines and slipped the tip of a needle right through it. Once the needle hit skin, all my warrior had to do was bite down, triggering the plunger and releasing the silver directly into their body." He paused for a minute allowing all of the information sink in.
I was speechless. There was absolutely no way we could have stopped it. No way we could have seen it. He blindsided us.
Trying to gather my wits about me, I took a few deep breaths. I needed to push forward with my questions. I could cry, scream or kill him later.
"I have one last question for you. Did you order the attack on me in Arizona?"
Scratching his head he turned his face away from me. I could see his fists balling up, pulsating with every second that passed. He didn't think that I knew.
"Yes I did, but I did it for us. So our relationship could grow stronger, but instead you ran away."
Relationship? Ran away? What in the hell was he talking about? We were friends, nothing more, nothing less.
"Relationship?"
Putting his hand to his heart and clutching his shirt he pouted his lips. "It hurts me that you don't remember these things. We were perfect for each other." He continued. Our relationship-."
I quickly interrupted him. "We were friends, that was it. We were never in a relationship." I admitted, confused that he even thought otherwise.
"Yes we were!" He screamed, slamming both of his hands against the metal. "Don't you get it? That's why we were always together. Why I bought you flowers. Why I drove you to and from work."
I searched my mind trying to remember any time I might had led him on, made him think we were more than friends. But I couldn't find any, because I didn't.
I knew I had to be careful with what I said as his anger was at a breaking point.
"And that was very sweet of you Allen," I said calmly. "But that doesn't change the fact that we were just friends. I didn't look at you like anything else."
"No! No!" He screamed, as he paced back and forth in his cell. Then he stopped and looked at me, his eyes becoming wider, flashing between black and red.
My body froze for a split second, fear taking over. "Guard! GUARD!" My plea coming out as a shriek.
His maniacal laughter echoed through the cells.
"You stupid bitch. You really think I would date a weak human like you? A nobody? Gotta give me a little more credit than that." He grinned. "And for your information, I didn't order the attack on you. You should be looking at the person closest to you, like your precious little mate."
My heart sank with his words. Sebastian would never do that to me. He didn't even know me. Allen is a liar, a manipulative bastard.
A moment later five protectors ran up along side of me. Placing their hands behind their heads, opening their lungs they took a few deep breaths,
"Luna. What's wrong?" One of the young men asked, apparently tired.
"I want him chained. He can't be trusted. And if for any reason he gives you grief, suspend him into the air, let him hang out for a while."
Blowing Allen a kiss I made my way back down the hallway and up the stairs. I needed to concentrate on healing Sebastian, a task I knew would not be easy.
