Shane, Alex and Ray did a great job moving everything into the house and putting it exactly where I wanted it. I was so thankful to actually have a bed to sleep and a table to eat in.
With everything properly set up, I could finally go food shopping and attempt to fill all of these bare cabinets with healthy and not so healthy food choices. However, I was sweating up a storm and desperately needed a shower, so my shopping spree would have to wait a tad bit longer.
I took a faded baby blue pair of skinny jeans from the closet and a black lace t-shirt and laid then neatly on the sink. Standing in front of the oversized mirror, I looked at the still visible jagged scars on my hands. The stitches formed small dots on the outside of the scar making them appear worse than they were.
"They will never fully disappear." I thought to myself. Keeping the tears from my eyes, I tried not to think about it, tried not to let my past affect my new life.
While waiting for the water to get hot, I brushed my hair and shimmied out of my still sweaty clothes. I stepped into the hot steady stream of water and watched the glass doors and mirrors fog up. I washed my hair then my body using this new lavender line that I absolutely adored. It smelt so good that I almost didn't want to wash it off afterwards.
When I was finished, I shut the water off and wrapped a periwinkle blue towel around my hair and then slung my favorite rose colored towel over my shoulders.
A hard knock on the door scared me, making me jump and lose my towel.
"What the hell Tessa, you scared the shit out of me." I yelled through the door.
She just laughed and opened the door enough to stick her head inside, her brown eyes sparkling with mischief.
"Just seeing if you were almost done in here!" She joked.
I rolled my eyes at her and slowly pushed her head back through the crack so I could properly shut the door.
"I'll be out in a minute, hold your water."
"Can we go now? I'm starving and staring at an empty refrigerator, it’s is not helping," Tessa whined as I grabbed my jacket off the back of the couch.
"You are so impatient, ya know?" I teased.
"Yeah, yeah, lets go!" Her sarcastic comment rearing its ugly head.
I lead her to the garage and opened the heavy metal door that squealed every time it was touched. She stopped immediately in the doorway, not moving an inch. When I turned around to look at her, she had her mouth wide open, staring at my vehicle.
"Um, you never told me you had a kick ass ride," Her mouth still gaped open in envy.
I just shook my head at her and unlocked the car for us to get in. Tessa was right, I did have a kick ass ride.
After I moved to Arizona, my car died on me, leaving me with no choice but to buy a new one. A 2019 Hummer was right up my alley, as I loved big vehicles.
If you took a military Humvee body style, added a luxury car interior you have the perfect vehicle. A raging beast of steel.
Tessa clambered inside and rubbed her hands over the dashboard and the leather seats. She had a 2015 Nissan Altima and compared to the monstrous size of mine, hers was a wimp on wheels.
I slowly backed out of the garage and waited until the large metal garage door closed to head out onto the Main Street. Since this was such a small town, everything was pretty close and the shops were all located in one place instead of all over town. This was extremely convenient, since I had extensive shopping to do.
"So, what store are we going to?" Tessa asked, still admiring the Hummer.
"Um, I was thinking of Walmart. They always have what I need there."
I didn't need anything fancy. Food was just food.
Walking up and down the aisles, Tessa and I were just throwing random things into the cart. I didn't have a specific “to buy list”, so it was just what we wanted in the spur of the moment.
Of course, I got the basics: milk, eggs, cereal, bread, the usual stuff for breakfast.
"What do you want to do for dinner?" I asked Tessa as I threw a box of pasta into the cart.
She looked down at the mess we had made and scrunched up her nose, trying to figure something out.
"Spaghetti? We’ll have to get garlic and meatballs then." She said with an enthusiastic look on her face, raising her eyebrows up and down.
"Eh, I guess that works." I reluctantly agreed and continued looking for the pasta sauce.
Taking notice of extra jars of sauce on the top shelf, I eased my body onto my toes, and took a few steps back. Before I was able to get a good look, I bumped into a warm, solid figure. Instantly, electricity spread through my body like wildfire, starting at the tips of my fingers. The sensation sped through my arms, legs, and finally to my spine. I shivered as the pleasure of those sensations caused my body to ache and yearn for more.
"Shit," I mentally smacked myself in the face, walked forward and spun around to see who was standing behind me.
Once again, standing just a few feet in front of me, was that hunk from Murphy's.
"I'm sorry, I didn't know you were behind me." I stuttered.
A smile grew across his face and his eyes lit up at the sound of my voice. "That's perfectly alright. I'm just glad I was here for you to bump into instead of those shelves of glassware."
I took a step to the side of him and realized that the whole shelving unit was filled with pickle jars. That would have been one mess I would have hated to clean up.
"Oops!" I said with a shrug of my shoulders and a bite on my bottom lip. Truth be told, that little accident was totally cringeworthy and embarrassing.
"That was real sweet of you to save my older sister from complete humiliation back there, " She giggled.
I could see her starting to bat her eyelashes and fling her brown hair to the other side, a sign of a new conquest target. To my surprise, he just looked at her with a polite smile with no reaction to her attempt at flirting.
"I wouldn't want a beautiful woman like that being humiliated." He winked at me.
And with that, I melted like putty through a child's hands.
