I couldn’t keep my eyes open for a second longer causing me to fall asleep next to Luke. It was still the middle of the day but I was super tired and I was happy to be out of the hospital. And to be with Luke and Alice.

Sometime during our nap one of us must have rolled over because Luke’s arm was around me and I was up against his side. I didn’t want to move, it was so comfortable and I was really hoping Luke wouldn’t wake up soon so I could just lay here for a little while longer.

Just laying here felt nice. I eventually fell back asleep, still in Luke’s arms and pressed against his side.

The next thing I know, I’m waking up and I feel something warm against my side. What is that? Confused, I slowly opened my eyes. To my surprise it was Luke. We were laying together. He was awake and was watching me look at him in confusion. “Luke?” I questioned.

“Sorry you looked comfortable so I let you sleep and didn’t move.” My heart jumped a little when he said that. He was being so nice to me. Letting me stay with him, letting me practically live in his room, and going against his parents just so I could come here. I didn’t want him and his parents to fight but I was grateful that he did all this for me.

“It’s all good. I’m really comfortable. Also I’m cold and you’re really warm.” I said while moving closer to him to try to get warmer. He instantly wrapped his arms around me tighter and pulled his blanket on top of us.

“Better?” He asked me quietly.

“Ugggg, fine. I was talking about you.” My heart skipped a beat. Me? Beautiful? What? I can’t let him know that that affected me. I have to play it cool. He tried to bury his head but the only place he could was in my hair. Which he did.

“Now was that so much of a big deal that you couldn't tell me?” His face was still buried in my hair but I felt him shake his head and mumble a ‘no’. “Hey, there’s no need to be shy. You can show your face again.”

“Okay.” He said while pulling his head away and placing it on the pillow next to mine. I went to sit up but his arm was still wrapped around me causing me to fall on top of him.

With just my luck the door opens as soon as I fall on him. We both try to hurry up to separate but with us being under the blanket we just got more tangled up.

“WHAT IS GOING ON IN HERE!?” Both our heads snapped up to see Luke’s mom standing at the open door, hands on her hips glaring at us. In our failed attempt to separate I ended up falling back on top of Luke.

Alice and their dad came running to Luke’s room to see what the yelling was for. Their dad had the same mad look as their mom and Alice just looked happy.

I looked over to see Luke rolling his eyes. “Nothing. Nothing at all.” While he was talking I tried to find away to untangle ourselves so we could sit up in the bed, and not on top of each other.

“It was obviously something. Now tell me what you guys where doing!” I heard his mom yelling.

“She was just getting up, from the other side and fell on top of me. Happy?” I had finally got us untangled and we both sat up in the bed to face his family.

“We were cold.” I put my head down to hide the blush of embarrassment from being caught in that position. I am not the kind of girl that you find in that situation and it felt bad to even be accused of that.

“Fine don’t tell me. Come on Matt.” Luke’s mom said and then walked away, his dad following. Alice didn’t follow them, instead she walked into the room and shut the door behind her.

“What did you know?” I asked her. I looked to Luke to see if he knew what she was talking about but he was just shaking his head. “What did she know?” I said, turning my question on Luke.

“A while ago when we were talking about where you would sleep she said you should sleep in my room so we could be boyfriend and girlfriend. I told her that’s not how it works but she said we should be together. And since that’s what this looks like to everyone she apparently ‘knew it’”

“Oh, I guess that’s what it did look like.” I said while looking down again. This time feeling bad instead of out of embarrassment.

“There’s no need to be sad Kenza. You and I both know that wasn’t what it looked it and that’s all that matters.” Luke said, while using his fingers under my chin to make me look at him. I let him move my face but I continued to look down at my feet.

After she left I looked up at Luke and said, “She seemed so sad.”

“That would be a good idea. With the way your parents have been I wouldn’t put it past them to throw all my stuff away.” I said laughing again.

“You’re probably right.” Luke said, laughing and getting up. I was still on the bed by the time he was standing up so he turned and offered me a hand up. I grabbed his hand, letting him pull me up.

Once we were both standing Luke held my hand for a second longer than needed. I didn’t mind either. For all I care he could have held my hand the whole way to the car and back but I don’t think he would be up for that so I let go and followed him out the house to the car.

Thankfully we didn’t walk by his parents on our way. We got all my stuff upstairs into Luke’s room and we were once again sitting side-by-side on his bed.

“So how we gunna do this?” I ask Luke out of nowhere. We had been sitting in silence gathering our thoughts.

“Oh. I don’t know. I didn’t get that far in thinking about this.” He said with a light laugh. “You can have the bed and whatever space is empty, which is a lot, you can put your stuff. We both need to go shopping for clothes and stuff so there’s plenty of room for your stuff.”

I took a minute to think it over. Was I really okay with sharing a bed with Luke? We’re best friends, we’ve done it before, his bed is big enough, it’s comfortable, and Luke’s warm. “Yeah, I’m sure.”
