Chapter 9
Luke’s POV
The first name I put into the Google search bar was Kenza Bentley. I hit enter and I clicked on the first link that showed up. It was a Facebook page. The name at the top was Kenza June Bentley. I found her. Well at least her page. I quickly tapped on the photos button to double check. There were lots of pictures. Mostly scenery and other cool pictures and a few selfies. She never was the selfie kind of girl. She looked younger than I remember but very close to the same.
I decided to continue looking through her pictures. There were no pictures of any other people. Either she didn’t have many friends, if any, or they didn’t like pictures. Not finding anything to help me find her, I stopped looking at the pictures.
Next I went to her home page to read her posts. The most resent post was “I forgot my damn book at school, going to get it before dinner.” This was posted about two years ago. I didn’t think anything of it being around the same time I went into a coma. Also there weren’t any likes or comments on the post. That struck me as odd. Pretty much everything got at least one like on Facebook. I looked at the top where it shows how many friends someone has, she only had 10. I tapped on the friends tab to see who she was friends with. I was being curious. The only people on her friends list were family members. This led me to the conclusion that she didn’t have any friends, or at least she didn’t two years ago when she used Facebook.
I went back to her home page and continued to read her posts. All of her post were mainly about books and bands, none of them had any likes or comments. I concluded that I wasn’t going to find anything about where she lived or about her from her Facebook, so I went back to my google search. Right before I tapped the back button on my phone I paused. I had noticed the “Add Friend” button.
I pressed the button. Maybe she’d get the notification and we could talk or meet up. Or something. Anything really, I just really wanted to find my friends. I then went back to the search. There wasn’t anything else on the search about Kenza, so Facebook will have to work.
On that confidence, I tried to Google Puck next. I typed the letters to spell out Puck Comi. Many things popped up, but the first one is the one that caught my eye. It was a news article titled “8th grade football quarterback in a life threatening situation”. What does this have to do with Puck? We’re in 10th grade. Maybe he has a little brother…or something? Not bothering to check the date I clicked the link and started to read.
To summarize, the article said: a boy was walking home with his two friends when a car jumped the curb hitting the boy. The boy fell into a coma and still hasn’t woken up.
I continued to read the details in the article. It turned out that the boy was Puck. How could this be? Puck would be in 10th grade, not 8th. When I finished reading, I noticed a date at the end, the article said the date was when the boy fell into a coma. It was May 18th 2013.
I was beyond shocked. My mouth was hanging open and I couldn’t get my thoughts straight. They had to be lying. The date kept bouncing around in my head while I tried to regain my thoughts. I was this shocked because that was the same day I went into my coma. This was too weird. How is this even possible?
After a few minutes of shock, I finally calmed down and could think straight again. One thing I kept thinking about was that I needed to find someway to contact Puck. Even though it says that he hasn’t woke up yet I have to try. It may be stupid but I can’t help thinking that if I woke up today then maybe he had also.
I went back to the search to try to find a way to contact him. He also had a Facebook page, so I went to it. I didn’t bother with the pictures, I already knew it was him and that he wouldn’t have posted for two years.
On his page were tons of post other people tagged him in. He must have been popular. The posts ranged from “I’m sorry,” to “I’m praying for you,” to “Please wake up.” The most recent post was from last week, based on this I assumed he was popular if people were still posting on his wall.
I scrolled down, past all the people posting about him. One post caught my eye. It was from a hospital, posted the day he…we went into a coma. The hospital’s name was City View Hospital and the post said “We are honored to be the hospital to treat you, Puck Comi.”
As soon as I read the post I tapped the hospital’s name to take me to their page. At the top it said the hospital was located in Orange City, Maine. That’s about a 30 minute drive from here. There was also a phone number. I had found a way to contact Puck! Well in a way…
I quickly dialed the number. It rang a few times before someone picked up.
“City View Hospital, how may we help you?” A female monotone voice answered.
“Could you tell me if you have a patient by the name Puck Comi?” I questioned back.
“Yes we do. He has been here since he went into his coma.” I breathed a sigh of relief. He was real, and he was there.
“Thank you so much! Is there anything else you could tell me about him?” I asked, being hopeful that she would answer. I wasn’t even sure if she could tell me anything.
“I’m not supposed to say anything to anyone but I’m in a good mood. He just woke up today!!!!” She squealed the last part, loudly.
“Thank you!!!”
“You’re welcome!” and she hung up.
I was right, he had woken up today, like me. I had also found a way to contact him. Now I just needed to talk to him before he got discharged.
I decided to try to look Aviana up and then call City View again and try to talk to Puck. I quickly saved the phone number into my contacts and went back to Google.
For my last Google search I typed in Avian Brighten. Once it loaded, I scrolled down through the links until I saw something that caught my eye. It was a picture of a beautiful baby girl. It was Star. I hurriedly tapped the picture.
The picture brought me to another Facebook page. This time it wasn’t one of my friends’, it was some girl named Julia Rose. I had no clue who this girl was, I had never heard of her.
The picture was still open so I read the caption. “Our new baby! She was named Star by the biological mothers nurse because she was a star for making it into this world while her mother was in a coma.” The picture was posted November 26th 2013.
Aviana in a coma? What? Three of us were in a coma, at the same time? How can this possibly have happened? At least Star was okay.
I went to the girl, Julia’s, home page to look at more pictures of Star. As I was about to tap the photos tab, the most recent post stopped me in my tracks.
Shock was running through me, again. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. The post that had just been posted a few hours before caused all this shock. It said: “Going to the hospital. Star’s mom, Aviana just woke up!!!”
I thought it was just coincidence that Puck woke up from a coma the same day that I did, but now that it happened to Aviana too, this is just weird.
