Rafael flinched as he heard Marco's name; he let out a growl. "Rafael, let me take over. I know how you get around other males. It can spew disaster." Rafael let Isaiah take control.
Marco entered, and Alyara was surprised to see his current state. "What happened to you? Did you get in a fight?"
The Hunter and werewolf looked at one another. "That idiot will tell Alyara you threatened him!" spewed Rafael. Isaiah glared at his rival, warning him not to say anything.
"I didn't know you had company again. I guess he seems to be here whenever I visit," said Marco.
Isaiah let out a condescending smile. "Ah, Marco, if I remember. It has been a while since we've seen each other. I guess that is what you call a coincidence. Alyara and I are together."
"Is this true?"
Alyara blushed and didn't respond.
Marco didn't show it, but he felt hurt. Yet, he knew that it was partially his fault. He usually went out with other women and knew about Alyara's crush on him. Marco knew that he shouldn't be too selfish and keep her waiting. However, Marco couldn't accept that she was with a werewolf, an Alpha no less. "So Marco, what can I help you with?" asked Alyara.
"I was worried about you since you haven't answered my texts and calls. I wanted to make sure you were okay." After what he was told, Marco couldn't help but feel concerned about his friend's safety.
"Oh, sorry about that. I have been busy and all. Also, my phone is old; I need a new one."
Isaiah stepped forward. "You are a very considerate friend, Marco. I'm happy that Alyara has a nice friend like you. You can go on now that you see that she is okay."
Alyara glared at Isaiah. "Isaiah, there's no need to be rude. Marco is a good friend of mine, and he-"
"Alyara, it's okay. I was hoping I could speak with him."
This surprised the couple. "Uh, why?" asked Alyara.
Marco eyed Isaiah. "I want to clear up misunderstandings between us. Don't worry; I want to have a friendly conversation. I think we both need this talk. Don't you think, Isaiah?"
The two men glared at one another. Isaiah smiled. "Of course, it would be a good opportunity to clear any misunderstandings between us." Isaiah noticed that Alyara looked uncomfortable. "Don't worry, nothing bad will happen. Either way, this was going to happen eventually."
"O-Okay, please don't do anything stupid."
Isaiah quickly kissed her lips; he and Marco walked outside, closing the door. They walked to the corner of the balcony so Alyara couldn't hear their conversation. "Why haven't you ratted me out? You had the opportunity to tell Alyara that I was the one who did this to you."
"You had your men do this; it wasn't you particularly. My business is mine alone. So, if Alyara knows of your identity, she knows mine."
"No, it's not my place to tell her. Since you two have been friends, I thought you would have the courage to tell her."
Marco crossed his arms. "I didn't want to know my world; it's too dangerous. I'm here to tell you that I will speak with my Dad about the situation. I'm still having trouble accepting that he would allow this." He massaged his forehead. "Still, her being with you can bring her even more danger."
Isaiah scoffed as he crossed his arms. "Though I appreciate your concern, you broke her heart many times and have given her too many false hopes." Isaiah smiled. "Who has hurt her more, Hunter?"
Rafael chuckled."That's right, show this wannabee Hunter who rules. Although, I would have gone a different approach."
Marco was silent for a while. "Now, I'm wondering if she found out the easy or hard way about your world." The Hunter glared at the Alpha. "Both our worlds are dangerous, I will admit. However, you are an Alpha, making you an easy attack target. Will you be able to keep Alyara safe?"
Isaiah then held onto the balcony, squeezing it tightly. "We werewolves care deeply about our mates. Our love for them gives us the purpose and strength to do what we must to protect them. I feel underestimated, Hunter. My kind is not like yours. You kill without reason; we kill for a reason. From my gathered intelligence, your organization is killing many rogues, even though many haven't crossed their territory. Now, who should be worried about who?"
Marco squeezed his hands into fists. "I'm not the one who is in command; my Dad is. He is blinded with revenge since werewolves killed my mother."
"I see. I'm sorry for your loss; even so, your father is killing out of rage. His grief and loss cloud his judgment. My concern is that he will create even bigger problems that may involve my pack." Isaiah walked closer to Marco, his eyes turning darker. "You told him about Alyara and me. You blundering idiot. You're the one putting Alyara in danger."
"You're the one who put her in danger first!" The Hunter scoffed. "I'm leaving anyway." Marco walked down the stairs; he felt angry that he had let Isaiah speak to him in that manner. However, a part of him knew Isaiah was speaking the truth. Yet, it hurt him even more because he was too late to get Alyara's affections. "Everything has gone wrong. I'm to blame."
Meanwhile, Isaiah entered Alyara's apartment. Alyara just hung up her phone and went to Isaiah. "How did it go?"
"We just cleared up some misunderstandings, Alyara. He's alive if that's what you're worried about."
Alyara sighed in relief. "Well, my Mom just called and was wondering about our meeting."
Isaiah smiled. "Tomorrow will do."
