A blast of cold air shot through the torn landscape, a male stood strong in body but even the strongest body can have its cracks. Eyes blue as ice gazed out upon the broken landscape of death, decay, and smoke rising from previous hours of battle. Strains of loose cream colored hair with highlights of red tickled his dirty peach skin causing a hand to rise and brush the tickling strains away. It had not been a good day even though it had ended in victory the day had overall been horrible. His mind began to slowly drift into thought, memories of the hours of battle, the sight of blood and dying faces of men both innocent and tainted souls.466Please respect copyright.PENANAQzlGdKYydC

A loud snap rang out into the air bringing the young man to jump and turn, instinct drawing his hand to take grasp of his sword's hilt with his right hand as the left grasped the sheath. His body lowered, shoulders tensed his eyes quickly almost wildly in nature for any signs of attack only to come and rest upon the cracking and popping campfire. Releasing a sigh his shoulders released their tension allowing for his body to stand at full height of five foot eleven. Next his hands released the sword from their tight grasp, his right hand raising to rest on his chest, feeling his heart pounding with the adrenaline flare up from the fright.466Please respect copyright.PENANAbxhQS7CmJO

It was so hard he could feel it through his dark brown uniform coat decorated with four metals resting on the front and on the tops of the sleeves by his shoulders, embroidered with yellow thread, waves stitched inside of a yellow diamond surrounded by green elongated triangles almost shaped like bird wings. It was the symbol for his home, his country. It was a symbol for honor and to give hope that those wishing to spread evil in the world would not succeed. It was a heavy symbol to bear but he held it with pride as his father and two elder brothers had before him serving the royal family before him.466Please respect copyright.PENANAjD0F37qUYD

Steps slow and muffled by the dry dirt his legs carried him to his fire and not till after sitting did he survey the area with a closer look at detail with muted voice. The land was cracked, dry and dirty with dust. He was guarding the boarder between the largest country to represent a place where hope never dies and where evil never enters. It was a huge task. Other soldiers were positioned in other spots along the boarder, each on their own unless they were sent reinforcements for safety or due to the soldier firing a distress signal into the sky with their gun or weapon of choice.466Please respect copyright.PENANAobCZT7yM14

Plant life was almost nonexistent unless the dead skeletons of trees, bushes, and other once living nourishment for life rested. Gazing up to the overcast sky taking out the light from the setting sun and rising moon, bringing the firelight to glow brighter in an attempt to ward off the nighttime darkness.466Please respect copyright.PENANAjEAzsUVnFH

Inhaling deeply the young man exhaled, setting his eyes back to the dancing flame from the depressing sky above. The night was quiet, the wind an unwelcome friend bringing coldness with its every brushing kiss. Leaning forwards he rested his elbows on his legs, tilting his hands out so palms were up welcoming his chin with a soft pillow to rest his tired head, eyes lost in the flickering and dancing flames of red, yellow, and orange.466Please respect copyright.PENANA9Yt4T1C4TW

The heat felt nice compared to the cool fall weather of Indu as winter was nearing around the corner. The Gods and Goddesses in their land above their world was not being kind in holding off the cooler weather for their time guarding the boarder. There had not been another person found able to put up a wall like the first warrior or priestess, both occupations were used in books, able to focus energy around her and send it forwards, building a crystal clear wall able to reach high above the clouds into the heavens as well as far below the earth said to be able to reach the pits of hell.466Please respect copyright.PENANAiAm6RE532Q

Sitting idle staring at the flames the young man's mind began to wander and think over the previous battle. Reviewing over the faces of both humans and monsters, seeing their dying looks covered in blood from the killing blow brought a numb pain to twist inside his chest. It felt odd. He was bothered by killing another creature given life yet at the same time saw it as justified. They were creatures and beings living inside the land of Nuray known for its dark ways and equally, if not worse, dark ruler.466Please respect copyright.PENANAoMKn5uWbTz

I wonder if Nuray's King will cease this pointlessness...not likely. Seems just like fire beings living just past the boarder are mindless beasts bent on killing anything that goes against their way of life. He thought silently, his head tilting forwards as fingers slipped forwards, resting under his noise and hiding his lips eyes unyielding from their stare at the flames. I wonder what my wife is doing...bet she's reading or preparing items to sell in the shop tomorrow.... He sighed closing his eyes finally with his exhale of air, exasperated and tired sounding.466Please respect copyright.PENANAKxvH0pJu2f

"I hate this war." The young man muttered, voice quiet and muffled into his hands. Sliding his hands up to cover his closed eyes he wished inside someone could be found that would be able to create the barrier once made by the Warrior of Light. "I wonder sometimes if the Queen is even trying these days to find someone able to use such powers from the forces around them. If she would hurry the search and find someone then all this would not be a problem....at least not for a long time..." his voice trailed off, face turning up with his hands sliding down, leaving his face to hang limply between his legs as now his arms rested on his legs.466Please respect copyright.PENANA3q5ANtpeLA

He opened his eyes the fire reflecting the annoyed, frustrated, and exhausted look held within his eyes, attempting to be masked by his determination to protect his family and the rest of those within cities and towns of Indu from those from Nuray. Silence retook the air around him and his crackling fire, leaving his quiet thoughts the ability to become loud against his ears.466Please respect copyright.PENANASgakaIaCcY

Minutes ticked by slowly with the man sitting by the fire, watching it burn and feed. Picking up a hand full of dead foliage he quickly tossed most of it into the fire watching it shoot up and hiss with a whoosh of gratitude for the extra meal. Once the fire quieted the air became calm as well, barely a sound filled the night to give record of life existing. It felt like a graveyard having so much decay and death laying everywhere on and in the soil that seemed to not be recovering well from the first battle that resulted in the boarder existing.466Please respect copyright.PENANAWD9cVLP6Xc

Minutes slowly turned to hours, the overcast sky trailing by at its own leisurely pace. The ice blue eyes of the young man was growing heavy, closing slowly though he tried to keep them open with his head resting bored in the palm of his left hand. The gentle song from the fire lulling him closer to slumber. As his eyes began to close, gently the lids touching in bliss of rest with darkness and even breathing this moment did not last as long as he would had wished. It wasn't the loudest noise but the snap of wood was enough to rouse him from his groggy rest resulting in his body tensing, sitting straight up, his right hand taking hold of his hilt, and as he stood his head turned left and right scanning the scenery around him.466Please respect copyright.PENANAjdivEdOSVe

"Who's there? Whoever you are be warned I am one of many top soldiers and I shall not allow anyone to cross this boarder." His voice held strength, confidence, and a sureness in his own abilities as his blade slowly started to exit the sheath with his left hand holding onto its hard case.466Please respect copyright.PENANANUO0MXzSPL

Scanning the darkness for movement his eyes paused on a form that quickly vanished after the moon reappeared from behind the sailing clouds above. His lips turned down in a non-amused frown, shoulders tensing to prepare himself as a low growl sound began to greet him from the shadows. This did not bring him relief or any form of excitement. Another twig snapped bringing him to turn his body some with his head, drawing his blade ready to defend himself and his home. "Stop toying with me beast and attack me. It will be the last time you take breath, I promise you this."466Please respect copyright.PENANAc7wHetKa2U

The young man warned raising his blade, taking hold of it with both hands firmly, adjusting his footing sliding one foot out a little as the soil crumbled and complained from his sliding black boot. A deep growl coming from an inhale then exhale with a hard push from the ground sent a body massive compared to his own out of hiding propelled towards him. The movement caught in his peripheral vision allowed enough time for his body to turn on the balls of his feet, pushing away to move back as the large beast came down hard with massive claws jetting out of a thickly furred hand.466Please respect copyright.PENANAsAVPTCJ70R

The beast snarled, muscles tense and eyes a golden yellow with the whites holding a light shade of red almost looking irritated. Watching the beast the young man's blade rose aimed at the monster crouched low to the ground in almost a kneeling position. Carefully the monster started to rise, snorting air from its black nostril's shooting up some dust from the heavy hard breath leaving for a few short moments discoloration from the moist warmth. It's body stood well taller than six foot, possibly closer to seven foot compared to his own height just by eyeing it.466Please respect copyright.PENANAIvWglAdNNK

He noted the dark thick black fur covering its body, a tail almost like a wolf to fit the rest of its fur and body shape there was an odd glimmer catching his eyes in the firelight. It was strange, not able to think of what would cause spots of the fur to glimmer as this monster's did. He didn't have much time to ponder over this odd sight fore as the beast snarled releasing a deep vibrating growl from its throat its body lowered, claws on its hind paws almost looking like talons of a bird or dragon digging into the dirt, causing small mounds to form around its toes. With great force and power its leg muscles tensed and flexed with its legs shoving forwards, a hand raising only to come down at an angled swipe resulting in the young man's own body lower and pushing back with his own body's force to escape injury, watching the beast miss hissing the ground hard after cutting through the chilly air.466Please respect copyright.PENANAkw0H1Ob1Fc

Landing back a bit the young man narrowed his eyes, sword at his side where it had moved so not to harm himself in the dodge. He couldn't just keep evading the attacks, no he had to strike but to strike blindly would only result in unwanted openings. Was he willing to risk that? It was just a mindless creature of a large mass, right? Taking a deep breath to clear his mind he watched the beast start standing, seeing how it stood slowly. This he figured was to ensure it would keep control over its height so not to become off balance but this was just his guess and during this was his thought to strike.466Please respect copyright.PENANAFSbvOqZ5o4

He had to make a strike, possibly kill it or at the least make it leave his camp and move back to its own side of the boarder. Pushing off with one foot he ran at the beast as quick as his human body would allow. Swinging his blade up, taking hold with both hands to bring it down hard and quick into the side of the monster's shoulder. Expecting to see blood he was confused when his blade rang out with a sharp noise, feeling more like it slid off instead of slicing into flesh. What happened? he pondered this before a grunt, gasping then coughing for air as in one move the beast's right arm swung up and slammed into his stomach; the blow forced the air out of his lungs and striking the dead trunk of a tree did not aid in his attempt at regaining breath after feeling the solid ground under him.466Please respect copyright.PENANAUL8WmFGV6j

Pain surging through his body as he gasped and coughed roughly to regain his breath feeling his tightly closed eyes watering from the pain and the dust adding to the coughing fit he was having. The beast turned growling in anger reaching up and felt its fur missing from the spot on its upper arm, baring its sharpened white teeth. How dare a puny human bring him to lose a piece of his beautiful coat? No human would escape this treason. Seeing the reflection of glistening black he turned his eyes towards the young man who was starting to move in a motion to lift his body up from the hard soil. Stepping towards the human the beast's tail swished with annoyance and excitement with thoughts of ripping him apart and having a small feast for a late night snack.466Please respect copyright.PENANAk0LNi1e0Cn

The young man as he pushed himself to get to his knees looked up at the monster who had its eyes on him, some drool shimmered in the firelight as did the now bare spot, showing to be almost like scales in appearance in the fire. Panic began to rise inside him and gripped his throat. This wasn't a good combination. He knew large reptiles held scales that could repel normal blades or weapons which explained when those with enchanted armory would be used but this was not one of those times for him.466Please respect copyright.PENANAxTW3OG9LBi

Pushing himself to his knees he paused reaching at his side for his blade only to see he was off from its landing position, four steps forward and three steps right. Biting the inside of his cheek to prevent himself from uttering a couple curses on his mind he reached back, placing a hand on the tree trunk standing to his feet with a grunt. Lowering his head he watched the ground thinking. He could fire off a flare then get a replacement after the monster was dealt with. He didn't have much choice as it appeared knowing his weapon wasn't going to penetrate the scales.466Please respect copyright.PENANANocURgedKw

As the beast stepped closer the young man stepped back, reaching his left hand behind him, under his shirt and pulled once he felt a hard plastic metal device, withdrawing the flare shot and readied it. Aiming to the air he pressed the launch button on the bottom looking down but when no sound or force was heard or felt he looked up confused, lowering the device to examine it and what he saw made his face fall. The impact had crushed in parts of the casing into the flare cartridge, pinning it in place. This was worse. Quickly looking up hearing a loud roar the young man jumped back seeing the tree splinter into pieces large and small from the force of the swipe from the large clawed hand of this monster.466Please respect copyright.PENANA2VLmqwgMQA

It took him little time to start running around the remainder of the tree for his sword, shaking the flare in his left hand trying to get it somehow to come loose, hoping he could luck out and get it to fire off so he could get help of any kind. The beast gave a loud roar of frustration charging at the young man aiming to strike him with the back of its hand watching him duck low, sliding along the ground, reclaiming his blade and stood seeing the beast kick to turn its running direction charging at him again, determined to get itself a free meal of a trespasser in the barren boarder lands: fifty miles of land dead and slow if at all recovering from the two beings colliding in the first great war forming the boarder between the once united land. He lifted his sword, glaring, placing the flare against its flat surface, biting his inner cheek glancing down to the flare device. Maneuvering it a bit he turned a small spot on the bottom so an orange dot was lined up with the launching button that currently wasn't working due to the launcher getting damaged but did this and tried again to launch the flare as the beast quickly approached, lifting one of its large hands, body extending and swinging down hard and quick as the young man braced himself for impact.466Please respect copyright.PENANABJtePCbLH9
