FANDOM RESET: SASUKARIN, COMIC RELIEF?
I say ‘reset’ because it literally feels as if I were back in 2007, when Karin was introduced and due to her comedic tsundere outburst, people were quick to dismiss her, and SasuKarin, as 'meaningless comic relief’. Back then, I actually could understand why and I was unsure whether anything serious would come out of her character, and her bond with Sasuke.
That all changed when Kishi gave his response, loud and clear.
Now Karin’s been back for all of two pages, and there are already people jumping the gun and claiming that “Karin’s always been just comic relief, from now on her interactions with Sasuke won’t be serious at all”.
And I say, really? Shall we remember how believing that turned out last time?

To name a few.
But not only that. The 'comic relief’ pairing was used to showcase the contrast between Sasuke, and the dark person he had become.
And that’s not all, either. The 'meaningless’ girl was stated to be Sasuke’s “favorite”, the girl he “has been about to hook up with”, among others.
And now she is also the first person Sasuke has apologized to in the manga.
So, only comic relief? I don’t think so. This is not 2007. People should already know better by now: don’t miss the forest for the trees.
Make no mistake: SasuKarin does have a healthy (though this can be arguable, lol) dose of humor and does give Kishi the chance to deliver some comic relief. It’s not always effective, and more often than not -fandom wise- it does more harm than good.
But Kishi likes it, and he has made comedy an intrinsic part of a lot of the most important bonds in the series, so this is hardly a bad thing.
Especially when it comes to Sasuke, who is such a serious character. Taka is the way they are to both, compliment him and counterbalance him.
And the same applies to Karin and SasuKarin. So that he is able to deliver both, serious and comedic moments through them is a good thing.
…That his timing and sense of humor are questionable are another thing altogether, lol.
