One cold, windy night in late December, where the snow dusted the ground and stuck to the window panes, five figures stood drenched in darkness. Two of the shadows walked up to the front door. The shorter figure knocked. The door opened slowly. A sliver of light cut across the taller one’s face. It ducked out of the light, but not before one could catch a glimpse of masculine features. The handsome boy stood back, out of the light.
The shorter shadow, a girl, stood fully bathed in light as the young girl who opened the door ran to get her parents. When the older girl had embraced her parents in the cold, biting air, they ushered her inside. The father saw the boy outside, and whispered to his wife. The family stood in the doorway, smiling and waving and saying ‘thank you’. All except the girl. She stood, simply staring at the boy, her beautiful features filled with hatred.
He waved at the family as they closed the door in his face. Then he turned and rejoined the other three figures. They stood conversing in the darkness for a few minutes, then they spun around and noiselessly melted into the shadows.267Please respect copyright.PENANAyuH6SGjY6v
