The sheets on the bed scrunched as I heard movement beside me. My eyes fluttered open, greeted by the brightness of the sun and the most beautiful brown eyes I had ever seen.
"Morning sleepy head," the equally beautiful sound of my husband's voice echoed around the room. The sides of my mouth tugged up into a smile as I blinked several times to adjust to the light.
"Morning," I replied, moving closer to him. The warmth of his body enveloped me as he wrapped his arms around me. I moved my lips close to his, connecting it with his and savoring the moment. It was moments like these that I wished I could stay in bed forever.
"I wish we could stay like this forever." I smiled again─he had just read my mind.
"We can't; our parents are coming over. Remember?" I said, sitting up. He heaved a heavy sigh as he sat up, running a hand through his messy black hair. He kissed my cheek as he got out of the bed.
"So what's the plan Sergeant?" He asked, looking at me with his hands on his hips, a playful expression on his face.
"You shower first while I make breakfast?" I replied more as a question, getting onto my feet.
"Sounds like a plan," he said, taking a few long strides towards me and wrapping his arms around my waist. "Though, I wish you could join me in the shower?" He asked with a hopeful expression on his face. I shook my head from side to side, biting my bottom lip to keep from laughing at his pouting face─he looked so adorable.
He leaned down and kissed me once again, my arms instinctively wrapping around his neck. The way his lips moved smoothly on mine made me feel like I never wanted to leave. Reality struck as I dropped my arms from around his neck and turned around, walking towards the door. 12:30 pm, the clock read. We had a little over five hours before our parents would arrive.
I walked into our kitchen, towards the fridge and picked up the carton of eggs. I then walked to the stove and picked out a pan from the group of pans dangling above, and placed it on the stove, turning it on. I picked up a bottle of oil and poured some of it into the pan. I quickly scrambled some eggs and divided it into two and planted them on two plates. Afterwards, I toasted two whole wheat bagels and made a fruit salad.
“Everything looks delicious,” Alex said as I felt his arms wrap around my waist and his chin rest on my shoulder. I smiled as I leaned into him.
“Want some coffee?” I asked, turning around and wrapping my arms around his neck. He looked into my eyes and smiled.
“I think I'll have tea today.”
“Alright,” I replied, walking over to the kettle and filling it up with water to make the tea.

After breakfast, I jogged up the carpeted stairs and into our bedroom, stripping off my clothing and putting on a short white robe.
I felt warm strong arms wrap around my waist, causing me to shriek from surprise. I turned around and was slightly taken aback by how close we were. He smirked at me, obviously noticing my reaction. "Did I scare you baby?" He mocked. I chuckled slightly as I rolled my eyes. He leaned down and pressed his lips against mine for the third time this morning. I was astonished by the intoxicating feeling I got every time we kissed. I don't think I'll ever get tired of it.
"Time's awasting," I said as we broke apart. I walked past him towards the bathroom, earning a playful slap on my butt. I jumped slightly and turned around to find him holding back laughter from my reaction. He gestured towards the bathroom. Rolling my eyes, I followed his instruction.
I took a quick shower and got out of the bathroom to find an empty bedroom. I walked over to the wooden closet and picked out a white dress that flowed down to my knees. I applied light makeup and picked up a pair of white heels.
I walked down the stairs, hearing the faint sound of gun shots as Alex played a videogame. I guess men never stop playing videogames as they got older. I walked behind the black leather sofa and slowly trailed my hands from his shoulders until I connected them together in front of his chest. I felt a soft vibration as he chuckled.
A loud shriek escaped my lips as he grabbed my arms and pulled me over, causing me to drop my shoes on the floor and land on his lap with my arms around his neck. It surprised me how I had landed so softly, considering how hard he pulled.
"I think this is more fun than Battlefield. Wouldn't you say?" He asked with a smug smile displayed on his face. I raised an eyebrow at his statement.
"You think I'm more fun than the game you've been playing non-stop since last year?" I asked sarcastically, making an O with my lips. He rolled his eyes at me as he dropped his controller on the couch and placed his arms around my waist, pulling me closer, effectively answering my question.
Our lips moved together smoothly as we kissed. He placed his hand behind my head deepening the kiss. After a very hypnotizing kiss, we took turns playing Battlefield.
I felt my phone vibrate on the couch, causing me to reach for it. I had received a text from Alex's brother, Mike.
Are we on for tomorrow?
I quickly replied to his message before checking the time─4:30 pm─one and a half hours left. I dragged myself off of his very comfortable lap reluctantly and walked into the kitchen.

In the kitchen, I mixed dough for dinner rolls and marinated the chicken breasts that I had in the fridge. About ten minutes later, I placed the chicken on some pans and put them in the oven. I walked across the cool wooden floor towards the bun dough, feeling the coolness on my bare feet, and shaped the dough, placing them on another pan.
After inserting the buns into the oven and setting a timer, I picked up a cutting board and walked over to a counter, picking out zucchinis, tomatoes and onions. The sound of the knife on the wooden cutting board echoed throughout the kitchen.
"Need help babe?” Alex asked as he walked towards the island and sat on a stool.
“Uh… sure. Could you make a salad?”
He smiled at me, rising from his seat and walked over to me, planting a quick kiss on my cheek.
“Anything for my baby.” I smiled, returning to the cutting.
As we were setting the table, with the smell of food surrounding us, the doorbell rang; sending an echo throughout the house. I heard footsteps as Alex walked towards the door and opened it.
"Alex!" I heard his mom say. I could only imagine the smile on his face at the sight of his beautiful mother. That lady was very beautiful for her age; just like my mother. I may be biased but I think my mother wins the most beautiful award. I heard his parents walk in and then felt arms wrap around my waist again.
"Care to lighten the mood babe?" He asked somberly. I felt my lips mould into an apologetic smile as I turned around, putting utensils back onto the dining table.
I kissed him on the cheek and looked at him with the same smile on my face. "Still not getting along with the old man?" I asked. He sighed heavily before running a hand through his hair again.
Ever since he was a teenager, he had never gotten along with his parents especially his dad. They had both wanted him to do one thing with his life while he wanted something else. They wanted him to take over the family restaurant but he wanted to go into technology.
The sound of high heels click-clacking on the wooden floor of the kitchen caused us to break apart. "Victoria!" I heard his mom's voice. I turned to her and smiled.
"Marian, so nice to see you," I replied with a forced smiled. I could tell her smile was forced as well as she walked towards me with rigid open arms. She hugged me and quickly let go.
I never knew why I always got the feeling that she didn't like me. It could be because of her robotic movements around me, as if everything she did was forced. "How's dinner coming along?" She asked.
"Great," I replied quickly, turning around to check that the oven was at a low temperature. The doorbell resonated through the house and I rushed to the door. I opened it to reveal my parents smiling.
"Mom, Dad." I said, walking out to hug them both. I walked them into the house and into the living room.
As soon as we entered, I felt the slightly depressing mood from earlier disappear. It was so quick; it felt like it wasn't even there moments ago. My dad walked over to Alex's dad and shook his hand with a large smile on his face. Afterwards, my mom walked over and hugged him, asking him how he was doing. Before long, they were all engaged in a conversation. I left the room to finish what I was doing in the dining room, running into Alex listening to his mom lecture him about something.
As soon as she saw me, she stopped talking, smiled, and left. What was that about? I thought to myself. "Maybe this wasn't a good idea," I said, breaking the silence. He looked at me with a 'you think?' expression. We both knew how his mom could get around us. There was no reason for her to behave that way around us.
I walked out of the hallway and into the dining room, leaving Alex to entertain our parents. An hour later, I had the food set at the table and walked into the living room to invite everyone into the dining room. As soon as I entered, a flash of relief crossed everyone's face as they rose from their seat and into the dining room. Most likely relief from whatever torturous thing Marian was doing.
My parents sat at the left side of the wooden dining table while Alex's took the right. Alex and I sat at the two ends of the table. As we ate, my parents and Alex's dad kept the table lively with random conversations. The only person who wasn't talking was Marian. Instead, she seemed to be busy with her thoughts, thoughts which weren't pleasant judging by the faint scowl on her face.
Throughout the meal, I felt our parents glance at us with varying expressions obviously concerned about her behavior. I tried not to make anything out of it but I couldn't help the feeling I had in the pit of my stomach.
When dinner ended, I asked everyone to go into the living room while I prepared dessert. "Need any help babe?" Alex asked, picking up a plate and setting it into the sink.
"I'm fine. Go join everyone," I replied, pecking his lips lightly. He smiled as he exited the room.
I walked to the fridge and picked up a strawberry cheesecake that I had made the day before and a can of whipped cream. The cake looked so delicious, it took every ounce of self control to stop myself from devouring the beautiful creation before me. I placed it on a counter, picking up a knife and cutting half of it into pieces.
When I finished, I joined everyone in the living room, holding the cake and plates with forks. I placed a slice on everyone's plate before running into the kitchen for the strawberries and whipped cream. I put some on everyone's plate and handed it to them.
Everyone seemed to be enjoying the cake, even Marian, which was surprising. She had a smile on her face as she placed the last forkful in her mouth. However, when she noticed me looking at her with a smile of my own, she frowned and set the plate on the coffee table in the middle of the room.
She cleared her throat, stealing a sideways glance at Alex's Dad, Jeff. He quickly finished his cake before putting the plate on the table. "Looks like it's time for us to leave," he said, reaching over to Marian and grabbing her hand, helping her up. She picked up her bag and began to walk towards the door.
"Thank you for inviting us over. The food was very delicious and we enjoyed our time," he said, walking towards me and hugging me before walking to my parents and shaking their hands and finally nodding to his son before departing.
Shortly after they left, my parents also left. Alex and I were now in the kitchen. He had a red checkered cloth in hand, drying dishes while I had my hands in hot soapy water, washing the dishes. "What's up with my mom?" He asked almost to himself. I sighed, continuing to wash.
"I don't know. I thought she had gotten past everything. Remember how well she got along with everyone on our wedding day?" I asked. He nodded, looking at the sink with a distant look on his face. "Everything alright babe?" I asked, my eyebrows drawing together in confusion.
He looked at me and flashed a small smile. "Just wondering about next week," he slowly replied. My confusion deepened.
"Next week? What's next week?"
"We invited the whole family for a barbeque. Remember?" He answered, looking closely at me as if I had changed into a different person. Realization clicked in my mind as I was returning to washing. If today was this awkward, what it would be like when she has to be in the same place as my parents for a longer amount of time?
When we finished, we walked into the living room and sat on the sofa, cuddling while we watched random shows on the TV and occasionally discussed plans for the barbecue.
