"Happily ever after is not a fairy tale. It's a choice."- Fawn Weaver
Five years later...
"Daddy! Mommy! Wake up!" the giddy sound of our little girl's voice filled our bedroom as her small figure landed on the bed. She jumped up and down between us, causing Alex and me to reluctantly wake up. As soon as I opened my eyes, her shrill scream filled the room as he wrapped his arms around her into a tight hug.
"Good morning my little princess," he whispered into her ear, placing a soft kiss on her cheek.
"Good morning daddy!" she replied with a giggle. I felt my lips turn up into a smile as I looked at the scene before me, finding it hard to believe that just a few years ago, it would have been impossible for me to imagine such a thing.
The feeling of warm arms wrapping around me pulled me out of my thoughts and I looked at my husband.
"Good morning, my queen." My smile widened as I gave him a little peck on the lips.
"Good morning." We looked into each others eyes, enjoying the moment until Emily spoke.
"Mommy I'm hungry." A small chuckle escaped my lips as I got out of the bed and picked her up.
"Why don't we go make some breakfast sweetheart?" I asked. She nodded her head eagerly and I walked downstairs towards the kitchen, holding her in my arms.
Her giggles filled the kitchen as she helped me mix batter for pancakes, splattering the mixture everywhere.
"Sweetheart, I think we could have more pancakes if you keep everything in the bowl." I couldn't help but to chuckle as I wiped away flour from her face.
"Okay mommy."
I turned around with a smile still on my face and started to prepare the pan. After putting oil in the pan, I turned around to take the bowl from Emily but I was surprised when I felt a pair of lips capture my own.
I closed my eyes as I enjoyed the brief moment. I sighed contently when he pulled away, watching him as he picked up his daughter and kissed her on the cheek.
"I must be the luckiest guy in the world to have such a beautiful family."
"We're all lucky to have each other," I said, walking to him to place a soft kiss on his cheek. He wrapped his arm around my waist before I could walk away, smiling brightly at me.
"I love you Victoria," he said. I couldn't help but to feel slightly surprised. Even though I had heard him say it many times in the past five years, I still felt my eyes water slightly as I smiled.
"I love you too Alex."
Not too long after, we were seated at the table, enjoying our breakfast as we chatted merrily.

We watched Emily as she happily swung on a set of swings, her giggles filling the air. I smiled at the sight of my beautiful daughter as I leaned my head on Alex's shoulder. He immediately wrapped his arms around me and placed a soft kiss on my forehead.
"Can you believe this almost didn't happen?" he asked, almost in a whisper. My smile faltered as memories from the past few years came into my mind. It had been a struggle for us to get our relationship back to the way it was but eventually we were able to make it even better than it was before.
"Yeah," I replied, more to myself. It was truly amazing how something simple could determine the outcome of something big in your life. In our case, it had been a kiss which had the power to break us apart. But with determination from both of us, we were able to work past that; and that was something that I was grateful for.
I lifted my head and looked at him, a large smile creeping onto my face. A few years ago, I couldn't have imagined that I would be at his side again as his wife, I could never have imagined that we would finally start a family together. But here we were, at this park, observing our child.
A smile appeared on his face too and he placed his head on mine. I closed my eyes as I allowed the tranquility of our surroundings to bring me inner peace.
"I love you Victoria," he said when I opened my eyes. My smile widened as I looked into his eyes, tears of happiness beginning to cloud my vision once again.
"I love you too Alex, I always will."I replied and immediately felt his lips on mine in a soft kiss.
And with that kiss, I knew that we would always be together. And although we didn't know what to expect in the future, so far, it was looking bright.
I was finally with Alex, my one true love, and I couldn't be happier.
