So as I've said today is Australia Day which is like...4th of July and stuff. It's a public holiday here. But honestly, we are celebrating a pretty shit event.
(TW//HISTORY AND KILLING)
Today (26/1/23) is the day captain cook and the British convicts landed here in Botany Bay. It's also the day they started killing off the first nations people which is absolutely horrible. That's why there are a lot of petitions and rallies on this day to get the day changed or the name changed to a day of mourning for those who died because of the British. Many agree (myself included) think it should be called Surviors day or Invasion day.
Annoyingly my family doesn't seem to get that it's not a day to celebrate and etc. So my family makes it a big event where we all get together at my parent's house and we have food and get together. I always feel a bit like shit for celebrating with them. Or well not celebrate with them but join in and stuff.
