"Mom why are you saying this?" Alex broke the silence, earning everyone's eyes.

"Didn't you see the way she was smiling when she walked in with your brother? It was as if they just came back from a date or something." The venom in her voice was easily detected.

I looked over at Mike to find him staring at his mother with the same dumbfounded expression that I had.

Where was this coming from? I thought to myself.

"Marian you should know that she would never do that. They're just friends," my mom defended me. Marian rolled her eyes as she sent glares my way, increasing the guilt which had started to build.

"Of course you'll defend your daughter. She's your blood, you have no reason not to," she replied.

"She never did anything wrong mom. Stop all of these accusations," Alex spoke again, his voice slightly louder, obviously getting annoyed by his mom as he adjusted himself in the hospital bed.

"Look at what she's done to you. She made you believe that she loved you and when you got caught doing something you didn't even do, she leaves you. Some wife she is."

Silence echoed in the room as everything she said sunk in. The part that stuck out to me and my mom, judging by her question, was what she said about Alex. I attempted to say something but my mom beat me to it.

"What do you mean he 'got caught doing something he didn't even do?'" my mom asked.

Immediately, her eyes widened as if she had just released a secret but she quickly covered it up, her voice continuing to sink deep as she spoke.

"Alex didn't cheat on Victoria."

Everyone's head darted in her direction as her words escaped her lips. I knew what I saw that day and there was no way that could've been a lie. The knowing expression which suddenly appeared on Alex's face confirmed that what she had said may have had some truth to it.

But how was that possible? I know what I saw; there's no way I could be wrong.

My head spun with questions as I looked from her to Alex who was staring at me; almost as if he was looking for a reaction but I didn't know how to react so once again I chose to retreat.

"Excuse me," I whispered as I left the room.

"Victoria! Wait!" I heard Alex and Mike call after me but I couldn't stay there any longer; it was too much for me to handle. I ran down the same halls that I had earlier, hearing several footsteps behind me but I didn't stop─I couldn't stop.

I ran out of the hospital, trying to find a spot to sit where I could think.

As I ran past the parking lot, my car caught my eye as it glistened in the moon light. I walked towards it, feeling tears starting to escape from my eyes as I got closer.

"Damn it," I cursed under my breath when I realized that Mike had the keys yet again. I walked away from the car, determined to walk home. I pulled out my phone to find that it was 1:10 a.m. I didn't care that it was this late; I had to leave.

As I continued to walk, Marian's words came back to me:

"When you got caught doing something you didn't even do, she leaves you. Some wife she is..."

Turning at the corner at the end of the street where the hospital was, I heard the horn of a car, causing me to turn my head. Upon seeing Mike behind the wheel of my car, I continued walking. He was the last person I wanted to see. It was practically his fault why I was in this mess in the first place.

"Don't tell me you're planning to walk home at this time of the night Tori."

Although I was very tempted to say 'watch me,' I ignored him and continued walking, trying to show him that I was serious and not in the mood to talk to him. I continued walking until I got to a traffic light. As soon as I pressed the button to allow me to walk when the light turned green, Mike got out of the car and walked towards me.

"Why are you ignoring me? Did I do something wr─"

"Yo're damn right you did," I broke him off. He looked back at me with a surprised expression glued onto his face.

"What did I do Victoria?" he asked, sadness taking over his face.

"You kissed me. And not just once, twice."

"Did you not like the kiss?" he asked, coming closer and lifting his hand to touch my cheek.

"Forget that! You kissed me and I didn't stop you. Do you know what that makes me? A cheater! I'm technically still married to him, you know? And if I find out that Alex didn't cheat, then how can I expect us to get back together?!" my chest heaved up and down when I finished saying what I've wanted to say since he started following me.

We stood in there in silence, me trying to calm down after my outburst, and Mike taking everything in. When the silence had stretched too far to bear, I walked past him towards my car, taking the keys out of his hand. After getting in and starting the car, I rolled down the window on the passenger side to find him looking at me.

"You can forget about that wedding tomorrow," I said, moments before I drove away. 

As I drove towards my parents' house, I opened my window, letting the air pass through my hair as music blasted from the speakers. I was angry and afraid at the same time. I was angry at Mike for getting me into this mess and at Alex for not telling me the truth. But at the same time, I was afraid of everything ending badly.

"Just wait here, I'll get her," I heard my dad say as the front door opened. I got up from where I was sitting on the sofa, watching a random show which appeared to peak my interest, and met them at the door.

"Who is it?" I asked blankly.

"Just go outside, you'll see," my mom answered, a small smile on her face.

As I stepped outside, the slightly chilly night air greeted me, causing me to pull my cardigan closer to my body. At the end of the stairs, I saw Fae standing there, her eyes glued to the screen of her phone.

"Where did you go? Why didn't you come to the room?" I asked, causing her to remove her eyes from her phone.

"Sorry, I had to take care of something."

"You've been awfully busy since I learned you were in town," I said, not quite sure where I was going with it.

"Yeah, everything's been a little hectic. I've been trying to get settled at my new job that's all."

"Mmhm. You know Alex told us what happened and he said that you were there when he collapsed."

"Yeah I was," she said, looking at me with eyes which appeared to be trying to figure something out.

"What were you doing there Fae?" I asked, a hint of accusation in my voice.

She sighed, most likely guessing that I was accusing her of something. "I wasn't there to do something bad Victoria. I was just checking up on him. You know that we've been friends since high school . And ever since I came back, I've been trying to help him. Not just you."

I stared back at her, not knowing what to say.

"The day after we went to the club, I went over to visit him and he looked very broken; he had just seen you with Mike, Victoria. All I did was try to pick him up and it took a while but I was finally able to get through to him. And yesterday when I went there, I was going to help him heal after seeing you on a date with Mike-"

"I wasn't on a date with him," I said.

"It doesn't matter. You broke his heart repeatedly after you walked out on him. He told me what really happened and I'll suggest that you talk to him about it and listen to him this time." When she finished, she turned around and began to walk down the street.

I didn't know whether I should stop her or not. She had just come to tell me to do the one thing that I refused to do: listen to Alex. Suddenly, I remembered that Alex would be discharged early tomorrow; maybe he would be going to the wedding. 

I sighed and took out my phone and dialed Mike's number, feeling determined. He picked up after the second ring.

"Victoria─"

"I'm coming to the wedding," I said, cutting his sentence short. There was a short pause before he spoke.

"That's great. I'll pick you up at two." I could practically hear his smile.

"Don't think I'm coming for you. I need to speak to Alex." And with that, I ended the call. I couldn't stand to hear his voice any longer, after learning the possibility that I could be the one who cheated in mine and Alex's relationship.

After taking a long shower, I slipped into a baby blue dress which fell to my knees. It was a dress which I had bought for a special occasion like an anniversary with Alex but seeing as how that may never happen, I decided to wear it today. I then returned to my bathroom to apply light makeup and fix my hair. Even though I was only attending to speak to Alex, I wanted to look descent.

As I walked out of my room, I picked up a pair of silver heels and a matching clutch, making my way to the living room. 

"You look beautiful Victoria," my mom said as she saw me. I smiled at her and nodded my head, thanking her before heading into the kitchen to have some breakfast.

I sat in the living room, retouching my makeup when I needed to, as I waited for Mike. I was watching TV with my dad when the door bell rang and I walked up to open it. 

He stood in front of me, dressed in a neat tuxedo with a black tie. He smiled upon seeing my face and as hard as I tried not to, I couldn't help but smile.

"You look lovely Tori," he said, showing me a smile of his own.

"Thanks, you too." 

After saying goodbye to my parents, I followed him to his car. As I was about to open the door, he reached in front of me and opened it himself, beckoning me to enter. I muttered a small thank you and got it, putting on my seatbelt as he walked over to his seat.

The car ride was very silent as we drove, the tension still in the air. Every few minutes, I would catch him looking at me, almost as if he wanted to say something before he would quickly turn back to the road. 

I knew that it wasn't completely his fault that my relationship with Alex had been jeopradized. When he kissed me the first time, I could've stopped him. But I didn't. And that was what was bothering me the most. I accused Alex of cheating on me but when I kissed Mike, I didn't think twice about how bad it would be, doing the same thing that I accused him of doing.

But we weren't together when it happened. 

But we weren't officially divorced either.

A small tap on my shoulder broke me out of my thoughts. I looked over to find Miike looking at me with a slightly concerned face.

"We're here." I nodded before stepping out. As we walked towards the church, I saw a large crowd of people standing in the front. The groom had already arrived and everyone was congratulating him before they entered. As we passed him, I smiled while Mike congratulated him.

The service was very quick and organized; everything went smoothly. As soon as they finished, Mike and I followed everyone to the reception hall. The theme was very simple, white with lavender. Everywhere I looked, I saw couples walking to their assigned seats, each of them smiling.

From the corner of my eye, I saw Alex, sitting at a table with a drink in hand, looking around as if he was bored.

"I'll be right back," I told Mike, causing him to stop talking to the couple that he was chatting with, and nodding his head.

As I walked towards him, I subconsciously began to fix my appearance, almost as if I was trying to look attractive to him.

"Hey," I said, taking a seat in the chair beside him.

"Hi." He smiled at me.

"You need to tell me what happened between you and Amanda," I got straight to the point. His smile faded and he sighed.

"Okay."
