disclamer: if you or someone you know works at petco, nothing against you 😊the employees are just doing there jobs, it’s the company that I dislike. The employees are really nice even if I don’t agree with the company’s ethics and stuff.

OH MY FREAKING GOSH I HATE PETCO…. I cannot explain how much I hate them. UGHHHHHHHHHH
Ok so basically I did some research on reptiles before I got my gecko from Petco. When I got there an employee asked me if it was my first time owning a reptile, and I said yes. I had asked for a gecko for my birthday and we had done the research about what we’d need to get.
However, this employee was telling us we needed a bunch of other stuff. Me, being a naïve beginner to reptiles just agreed 😔
The employee gave me a bunch of stuff that I’d later find wasn’t good for the gecko…
They gave me a heat lamp, which is too bright for the gecko making it hard to sleep and not wanting to come out of her hiding place
AND they gave me sand to put in the bottom of the enclosure…. SAND???? REALLY???? So after doing a bit tun more of research I found out that sand is very very bad. When the gecko goes to eat something like a cricket, they could accidentally ingest the sand which is verrrryy bad on their stomach.
So basically this employee was just selling me stuff to make money without regard for the animal… plus the sand is expensive ☹️
But.
The worst thing..
EVER
Is how petco treats their animals. Like have you seen the gecko enclosure??? Way too many geckos in one tiny space. They are super super skinny and sick looking. The animals don’t get the proper care that they need at all 😭
So I’ve found a much better supplier for my geckos food, a small local store that is solely devoted to only reptiles, where every animal has the space they need. And the employees are trained to know good information on the reptiles.
