"Why should I?" Mike asked, reluctantly turning around to face me as the rain suddenly stopped.

"Because..." I struggled to find words to say. He was putting me on the spot and I had no response for him. As he detected that, the sound of my phone ripped through the air. I quickly took it out and answered it, mentally sighing in relief.

"Victoria, did you find him?" Marian asked worriedly.

For the first time since I had come to know her, I was glad she was talking to me. I replied and told her where we were. As I was telling her, Mike's face contorted into anger.

"Why did you tell her where we are?" he asked as I put my phone back in my pocket.

"I'm not going to let you do this Mike. I thought that maybe if she came, you'd change your mind about jumping." He remained angry as he took small steps forward, attempting to let out his frustration. He swiped his hand across his face and looked at me.

"Are you not listening to me Victoria? There's nothing left for me in this world. The only thing that would change my mind is if you told me how you feel about me," he yelled. I took a few deep breaths trying to subside my frustration.

"Mike stop. Just listening to yourself. How can you say that about yourself? None of that is true."

"Victoria, please don't ignore my question. Tell. Me. How. You. Feel." With every word he spoke, he took a step forward until he was standing close to me once again.

I looked down, trying to come up with an answer again. How did you tell someone how you felt about them when you didn't know exactly how you felt? 

I felt warmth on my chin as he placed a hand under it and lifted my head up, forcing me to look at him.

"Victoria, answer the question."

My heart clenched at the desperation that radiated off of his face, guilt penetrating deeply. I didn't like being the reason behind his unhappiness but I really didn't know how to answer him.

When Alex had told me that the love which I felt for him wasn't the romantic type, I couldn't believe it. But now as I stood before Mike, I was beginning to understand that he may have been right. However, I wasn't completely sure if I had indeed started to develop feelings for Mike.

I moved my head from his hand and looked down, feeling sad that I couldn't answer his question.

"I don't know Mike. I really don't."

"Victoria, how do you feel?" he continued to press on.

"I don't know Mike."

"Just tell me how you feel!"

Anger began to rise in my chest. I did my best to surpress it but there wasn't much that I could do about it.

"Mike, I said I don't kn─"

He broke off my words as he placed both of his palms on my cheeks and softly placed a kiss on my lips. I tried to pull away, feeling the confusion covering my brain increase but he didn't let me. Instead, he deepened the kiss, pulling me closer to him. My body reacted before I could think of what I was doing.

We pulled away from each other, panting for air. He looked into my eyes as he dropped his hands and allowed them to dangle at his sides. As I looked at him, I saw defeat wash over his features, almost as if he had come to the conclusion that I truly felt nothing for him. As he took a step closer to me, the sound of Marian's voice had us both spinning around to face her.

"Mike!" she ran up to her son and engulfed him in a hug, tears running down her face. "I thought we had lost you."

He stayed rooted in his spot, taken aback as he looked at his mom. But his dumbfounded expression quickly receded, immediately covered with anger.

"Why would you care if you lost me, mom?" He spat, stepping away from her embrace.

Her face betrayed her surprise at his sudden question.

"Mike, how could you say that? Of course I'd care if I lost you. I'm your mother and I love you very much. Why would you think anything diff─"

"Why would you ask me to try to get between Alex and Victoria if you cared?" he asked.

"What?" she took a step back.

"You didn't care enough about me to think of how this could affect me. I love her, mom. And because of what you've asked me to do, I can't even ask her how she feels without seeing that she's confused."

They both looked at me as I stayed back and observed their exchange. Feeling their eyes on me caused me to feel uncomfortable, making me look down slightly to avoid seeing how Marian felt about me.

"Mike I love you, and I'd never let anything happen to you. The way I see it, she was already in love with you; she's always been in love with you. All she needed was a little push in the right direction. That's what you did."

My head snapped up at her words to find Mike looking at me again.

"Is that true Victoria?" he asked, a look of vulnerability plastered on his face. I stood there unable to speak.

"Victoria please, just tell me how you feel," he pleaded, walking closer to me.

"I," I took a few steps away from him "I really don't know," I whispered. Marain walked between us and looked at Mike.

"Why don't we do this at a better time?" she suggested.

Of all the things I thought she would say, this was definitely not one of them. We both stood there looking at her blankly.

"You should both take some time to think about this. Maybe Victoria just needs some time to come to terms with how she feels about you."

Mike sighed and looked away from his mom, looking directly into my eyes.

"Okay, fine."

And with that, it was settled. We were both going to take some time to think about everything that had happened and figure out how we felt about each other, especially me.

I walked towards my car, questions swirling around in my head. The biggest question though was how I felt about Mike. I was now convinced that there was something but I wasn't sure if I'd call it love.

Feeling the need to be away from home, I drove in the other direction, towards the house which I used to share with Alex. I wasn't sure if I wanted him to be there or not. All I knew was that I had to go somewhere to clear my mind and that was the first place which came to mind.

I parked in front of the house and walked towards it, choosing to sit on the steps rather than check if anyone was home. As soon as I sat on the front steps, I broke down.

All it took was one kiss to ruin my life; to send me into this confusion. Everything was completely messed up now and no matter how hard I tried to come to a conclusion, I couldn't.

The door opened behind me, causing me to look to find Fae standing in the doorway, sympathy and surprise coating her eyes.
