CHARLOTTE’S P.O.V.
“Ms. Jones, how are you feeling?” The cliché’ looking doctor questioned, fixing his glasses that hung loosely on his nose before taking a pen out of his front pocket, scribbling down observations on his clipboard which confused me, considering I didn’t even say anything yet.
“Like I died.” I deadpanned flatly, irritated to no end. “How do you think I feel?” I spat, but all he did was nod, scribbled some more on his stupid clipboard, before returning his pen, and then he nodded again at me.
“I understand how you feel, Ms-“
“Oh, so you’ve died before?” I nodded, glaring at him. I knew it wasn’t his fault he had to ask those stupidly cliché’ questions, but I was angry at him for not letting me see Alec. Alec was the first person I wanted to see.
“Ms. Jones, you know that’s not what I meant.” The doctor, who I had yet to get a name from, sighed, running a hand through his graying hair. “I just meant I understand how you feel: Confused, worried, scared, the usual, and I am here to let you know that’s completely normal for somebody who’s gone through such a traumatic experience.”
“Where’s Alec?” I queried, my eyes narrowed and my arms crossed. “I’m sorry, but I want to see Alec.”
“Not in your state, Ms. Jones, I’m sorry-“
“What?! What do you mean? I’m perfectly fine!”
“Ms. Jones, you literally just died less than 2 hours ago; you are far from fine.” He responded, walking over to check my blood pressure with a light scowl on his face.
“Yes, but now I’m alive, awake, and eager to see my boyfriend. Come on, doc, he doesn’t even know I’m alive, yet alone awake!”
“This isn’t a negotiation, Ms. Jones.” He stated clearly. “I will call him, but he will not be able to visit your room until we test you.”
“What do you mean test me?”
“I mean, test you and make sure you’re okay. Don’t forget how you went into a coma and died, Ms. Jones; Your body is still weak and fragile.”
“How can I forget when you keep reminding me?” I questioned grumpily, turning to my window with a frown.
“I’m sorry, but we want to make sure you are at least 100% okay and well before we accept visitors-“
“Yeah, I get it.” I snapped, wanting him to just drop it. “When can I be tested?” As soon as I asked that, a petite nurse came in with a polite smile, acknowledging me before turning to the doctor.
“Sir, it’s about Mr. Frank.” My heart dropped at Brandon’s last name, and the stupid heart machine or whatever, besides me, beeped faster, making the doctor and nurse turn to me.
“I’ll be back, Ms. Jones; don’t do anything silly.” And with that, the doctor and the nurse turned, leaving me. What could I possibly do that’s silly? I thought with a roll of my eyes, looking around my room with disinterest before my eyes landed on the beside phone, and I instantly dove for it, already punching in Alec’s familiar phone number before even checking if it worked.
Pressing the phone to my ear, I listened to the annoying dial tone as I waited for him to answer, which he did on the 3rd ring.
“Hello?” His voice made me sigh, a small smile on my face as I leaned back in my bed, staring up at the ceiling. “Hello?” He snapped again, making me realize I hadn’t answered yet.
“A-Alec, it’s me.” I breathed, chewing on my bottom lip as I counted the dots on the ceiling as I waited for him to respond.
“C-C-Charlotte?!” He choked out in disbelieve about a minute or two later, making me laugh lowly, nodding my head even though he couldn’t see me.
“Yeah, it’s me. Listen, can you come see me? The doctor said it’s forbidden, but I just really need you right now.” My voice cracked at the end, making me realize I was getting emotional over the phone.
“Of course, Charlotte.” He sighed, and I could hear rustling on the other end. “I’ll be there before you could even say ‘cliché’’.” And with that, he was gone, leaving me to my laughter and the beeping of my heart mahine.854Please respect copyright.PENANA2uQkOhBEHK

After just two very irritating and time consuming tests, I was allowed visitors, making me nearly explode with excitement once the doctor informed me. I was currently bouncing with joy when Alec arrived, and I saw him breath a sigh of relief as if he couldn’t believe I was there, making me giggle. Running towards me, he threw his arms around me, and I couldn’t help but exhale, breathing in his scent.
“Jesus, Charlotte.” He groaned, pulling me closer. “God, I thought you’d never wake up.”
“Well I am, and you’re squishing me.” I mumbled, and he instantly pulled away, sheepishly peering down at me.
“Sorry, I just missed you, that’s all.” He smiled, sitting beside me in a plastic chair before taking my cold hand in his warm one.
“That’s alright, I missed you too.” I admitted honestly, looking him up and down and seeing he didn’t look so good. “When’s the last time you slept?”
“About two days ago, but that’s okay.” He nodded when he saw my surprised face. “As long as you’re okay and healthy, I’ll be able to sleep safely.” He added, kissing my forehead, but I grabbed his neck, pulling him down so his lips could meet mine. He was eager to kiss me, considering I had died in front of him the other day, but I didn’t mind at all. As his tongue ran over my bottom lip, I yearningly opened my mouth, letting him slip his tongue in and meet mines with his. Tangling my fingers in his hair, I was in pure Heaven before harshly falling down back to Earth when the doctor cleared his throat, making us jerk away in surprise.
“When I said you were allowed visitors, I didn’t mean allowed to attack each other like wild animals. You’re in a hospital, so please, contain yourself.” He snapped, glaring at a sheepish looking Alec who returned to his seat with his hands raised in mock defense.
“Sorry doc.” He coughed, and I giggled lowly.
“And as for you, Charlotte, you can’t have your heart reacting like this.” The doctor said, pointing at my heart monitor machine which I noticed was beeping loudly, making me blush harshly as Alec stifled laughter behind his hand, and I flipped him the bird.
“Shut up.” I muttered, avoiding his eyes, focusing them on the doctor instead.
“You’re still very fragile; You need to give your heart a break.”
“Yeah, Demi Lovato.” Alec butted in with a smirk and I searched around for something to throw, my eyes landing on a teddy bear that was sent to me, and I hurled it at Alec when the doctor wasn’t looking. “Hey.” He whined, pouting, and it sent my heart into its loud beeping, making Alec smirk and the doctor to glare at the both of us.
“This is why the policy for dating couples is different for people in your state.” The doctor sighed after he was done checking whatever he was checking.
“I’m sorry doc, she just can’t help it. I’m irresistible.” Alec said cheekily, and my glare instantly made him clamp his mouth shut, making me smirk.
“Yeah, well…” The doctor sighed, tiredly, once he saw we were love-struck teens and my heart wasn’t going to calm down from the high it always got when around Alec. “Just don’t do anything that will send you into a heart attack.” He hollered over his shoulder, making both Alec and I’s face turn beet red as he left the room with a knowing smirk.
We were silent for a few minutes, just enjoying each other’s company, me resting my still throbbing head on my pillow, and Alec continuously sighing like an old man now and then.
“Alec, why are you staring at me?” I finally asked, peering at him out of the corner of my eye to catch his eyes just glued to my face.
“Sorry.” He muttered, dropping his gaze. “I just…I mean, you died, Charlotte. Like literally. And seeing you dead after watching your ex-boyfriend just…-“
“Alec.” I breathed, my eyes fluttering closed just as a tear slipped out of the corner of my eye. “Please.” I practically begged, and he instantly stopped talking.
“I’m sorry…It’s just all still surreal.” He admitted, running a hand through his hair.
“Yeah, try dying.” I scoffed, still not grasping the idea that my heart literally stopped beating. “You know, it’s always said that before you die, you see your whole life flash before your eyes, but all I saw was darkness. And then when I came back, I just felt like I took a really long nap.”
“Charlie, you don’t know how bad I want to kill him.” He snapped, looking away with his jaw clenched, silently fuming. “What he did to you…I’ve never seen a guy hit a girl, save for ‘Jersey Shore’, but you know what I mean.”
“I do, and I’m just glad that I made it to the hospital. Trust me, Alec, if you wouldn’t have come when you did, I would be dead. Let the police handle Brandon. Right now, it’s just me and you, okay?”
I could tell he was still more than pissed about Brandon, but my soothing words managed to calm him down a bit, and that’s all that matters.
“Charlotte, I…My feelings for you just intensify each passing second.” He confessed, his cheeks turning a dark pink, and I couldn’t help but grin at his words.
“I-“ I was cut off by the door opening, revealing Amy, who had tear streaks running down her face, and her hair looking suspiciously like a bird’s nest. My heart clenched, knowing it was rare for Amy to actually lose it.
“Charlotte.” She gasped, running to my bed and throwing her arms around me, and I was just too happy right now to complain about her crushing my throbbing ribcage. Soon, we were holding each other, sobbing into each other’s shoulders. I had been holding up a cool façade as if dying didn’t affect me at all, but right now, as Amy held me, I couldn’t keep up the act anymore. Soon, I was sobbing so hard that I couldn’t breathe. As I remembered the night when Brandon had somehow gotten into my house, and had pummeled me, I was now scared I would pass out from the lack of oxygen I was getting, I was crying so hard.
“Shh, it’s okay.” Amy breathed, brushing my hair with her hand as she tried to calm me down. I knew that I wasn’t necessarily close to Amy and she was relatively younger than me, but I realized what I needed was a girl who understood at least a little bit of what I was going through. Thank god Amy didn’t go through half of what I did, but she was a girl, and that was enough. “I’m so sorry, Charlotte. I’m so, so sorry.” Her words just made me cry harder into her sweater, but she didn’t seem to mind.
Soon, I was out of tears, and my headache intensified greatly, making me groan every other few minutes. I noticed that Alec had left, maybe it was because he was uncomfortable, or he wanted to give us ‘girls’ some privacy.
“Charlotte.” She said, sitting in a chair to my right, the one Alec was in, before looking at me sadly. “I’m so sorry about what had happened to you. I hope you’re not mad at him about it, but Alec told me everything, but that was only because-“
“It’s fine.” I assured, nodding my head. “You’re mature enough, and I understand that he needed someone to vent to.”
“W-Wait, so you’re not mad?” She checked, and I managed to utter a laugh and a nod of my head.
“I promise, I’m not mad.” I confirmed, and she audibly let out a breath of relief, brushing her hair into a ponytail. “Just please don’t treat me differently.”
“Of course.” She nodded as if that was the stupidest question ever. “Alec defiantly lucked out with you.”
“Even if I come with more baggage then the Kardashians?” I queried, and she burst out with laughter, the noise filling the small hospital room, making me break out into a smile.
“Even if you come with more baggage then the Kardashians.” She confirmed with a small smile once she was done.854Please respect copyright.PENANA6mzqW11EYr
