"What in the!" I cried out so loudly that Nancy and Jenny were at my side at once. Jenny gently asked me what the matter was while the more impatient Nancy snatched the book away to look at what I found.
"We ought to go there, right?" Nancy said as soon as what she saw was on the page. "We ought to go there and find out what this is all about."
"Seriously Nancy?" Jenny looked over Nancy's shoulder at the address and said. "We are going over to an unknown address without the slightest inkling of what's waiting for us? Seriously?"
I was silent. A sudden realization had struck me. The Memories...Dad's Memories...Clara crying for help...Although I wondered how I was going to explain it to both of them, I decided to trust my hunch.
"Dad knew where she was. Maybe...She's..."
"Of course he knew where she was!" Nancy said matter of factly. "I'm quite convinced that he had known the whole time. Where she went...Even..." She glanced again at the address. "Who she went to..."
The three of us stood in silence.
"Why didn't he say anything to the Inspector then?" Jenny spoke finally. "Their friendship broke apart because of this..."
I bit my lip. I had a really bad feeling in the pit of my stomach. Somehow...I knew...I knew that we won't see her there.
"What are we waiting for?" Nancy said. "I know where this place is. It's not far from here. We could catch a bus and be there in fifteen minutes." She strode out of the room before either me or Jenny could say anything.
"But Nancy...What are we?" Jenny ran after her. I followed.
In no time at all we were there. In the middle of the posh residential colony called Rose Gardens was a single house that was forgotten and run down. Amidst the poorly maintained, overgrown garden the fading building loomed ominously like something out of a ghost story. Even Nancy, who had been so eager to investigate was apprehensive when she saw it. Jenny meanwhile looked thoughtful.
"I feel like I've seen this place before." she said quietly.
Although both Nancy and I asked her about it again and again she was quite unable to recall anything so we left the matter alone and rang the calling bell.
I gasped out loud when I saw the person who opened the door.
It was her. The old woman who warned me about my power.
The old woman who had been clearly sent to scare me off.
To be continued...
