Around three, he came back in and took a shower. When he got out, he started to make me a birthday cake. I showed Hope around the cabin, letting him know where was where. William asked me if the cat was my best friend now.
“Of course,” I said.
He frowned. “I hope one day we can be friends,” he said as he cracked the eggs in the bowl.
I didn’t reply, and instead went to my room with the cat. I tried to forget about the doe from earlier, but I thought about William’s words and how it was my fault. He really did have a point. My new plan was to keep as much food in the house as possible, to stop him from going into town, locking myself in my room again, and killing another innocence animal.
About an hour later, he came into my room with a large box. He said, “I have a present for you.”
He walked over and placed the present on my bed. “For me?” I asked, not sure if I sounded positive or negative to him.
His smiled put me at ease. “Open it.” So I did. Inside was a white lacy dress. “Go try it on.” I went to the bathroom, living my little kitty with him. When I put the dress on, I felt silly and overdressed, but felt pretty. When I went back to my room, he was sitting on my bed, with the cat in his lap.
“Thank you for the-“
“Beautiful,” he cut me off.
“Um, thanks,” I said turning red, staring to the floor.
“Will you keep it on?” he asked. I nodded. “Good. Let’s go to the living room then.”
