The bell finally rings and I turn to Caleb.
"Why didn't you tell me you were coming to our school?"
"I wanted it to be a surprise."
"Well, It sure was!" I turn to face my desk when suddenly I spot Roy walking over to me.
"You...come with me." He says curtly.
"Me?" As confused as I was I knew he was talking to me.
"Oh, hey Roy!" Caleb greets with a smile but Roy doesn't respond. He immediately grabs my arm and leads me out of the class. I look at Caleb mouthing an apology to him.
Where he leads me is an empty classroom.
"Will you go somewhere with me after school?" He asks his face read.
"Gosh," I scoff. "Did you drag me out of class to tell me that?"
"Yes, Didn't you say you'd do what I want?" He asks peering at my face. A mischievous grin forms on his face.
"I--I did!" I say moving away from him. I needed to steady my heartbeat.
"Well, good." He leaves the room and my face immediately turns red.
Finally, the last bell rings, and Olivia approaches me.
"Hey, aren't you going home?"
"Home...Uh yes..." I unintentionally glance at Roy who had already packed his bags and got up. He begins to exit the classroom.
"Excuse me!" I say before rushing out after him.
"What the.." I hear Olivia's voice drift.
We walk silently side by side. Was I the only one looking forward to going somewhere with him?
"Ahem, so where are we going?" I ask.
"Emma!!" Someone calls out from behind and I stop and turn my head. Caleb was running towards us.
"Hey, you left your book on my desk." He says handing me the English textbook.
"Oh, thank you. but you didn't need to come all this way for it." I say and flash a smile.
"Anyway, you seem to be heading a different direction from home, where are you going?"
"Well...we...Roy--"
"It's none of your business." Roy cuts in. "Let's go." He grabs my arm and I am dragged away.
"Hey! Why are you so rude to him, what did he do to you?" I finally muster the courage to ask.
"Nothing...I just don't trust him." He said and let go of my arm. "I am sorry."
"Huh?" I didn't get why he was apologizing. "Anyway, where are we going?"
"There." He points at what looks like a hill.
"There?" I turn to him, "Why?"
"Because it's special." He says with an innocent smile.
We soon arrive on top of the hill and he sits down on the grass. He pats beside him gesturing for me to sit and I gladly do.
Now staring at the sun setting across the sky I can't help but sigh. I could see all the houses from the hilltop. I swayed along with the wind that blew against my skin. Closing my eyes I imagined dancing.
"I never knew there was a place like this!" I exclaimed my eyes still closed.
"No one does...I just discovered it."
"Do you come here often?"
"Yes...I come here a lot to avoid staying at home."
"Do you really hate being my brother that much?" This time I open my eyes and turn to him. He turns to me for a second before turning to face the horizon.
"Maybe." He said after a sigh. "Emma, I have something to tell you about our parents." His tone now becomes serious.
"Mmh?"
"My father--"
My phone suddenly rings. My mother's name appears on the screen and I immediately pick up.
"Yes, mom....Yes, I am on my way...Of course! Yes...I am not lying..." The phone call ended and sighed.
"Mom wants me home," I say getting up. "What were you saying about our parents?"
"...Nothing..." He said and got up. Together we headed home.
