Finally the Monday we may have or may not have been waiting for arrived. School. The mere word made me wish I would sleep for eternity.
A new year, new class, and new classmates are the only things that motivated me to wake up that Monday.
I immediately began to prepare for school.
"Emma!! I hope you are not sleeping! You can't afford to be late on your first day!" Mom yelled from downstairs. The kind that would have woken me up if I were sleeping.
Within minutes I was ready. With my bag, I dragged my legs down the stairs and to the dining room where everyone was having breakfast. I sat next to Roy who was calmly eating his breakfast.
"Emma, why do you look like you haven't slept for days!" Mom said as she walked in from the kitchen.
It's because I haven't slept! Yesterday, before bed, I was anxious so I read a book!
"No, reason mom."
I hate school.
"Roy this is your first day. I hope you won't cause problems." Dad spoke up.
"..." Roy didn't respond and continued quietly eating his breakfast.
Soon we were done and I bid my parents goodbye as I wore my shoes.
"Take care of each other!" Mom said as she closed the door. Roy on the other hand was far ahead.
Take care of each other...He is gone!
"What a jerk!" I mumbled as ran towards him.
"You know, you need me," I said.
"..."
Jeez, if you are going to ignore me then say so!
Speaking of which...I didn't get to ask about the competition why was he there?
"That day...why were you--"
"I didn't see a thing." He cut me off and then sped up leaving me behind.
"That--"
"Morning!" Someone suddenly clasped my shoulder causing me to jerk up in surprise.
"Olivia, Sheesh! Can't someone have a peaceful walk to school?" I said to Olivia who was now walking beside me.
"Okay...? Anyway, Is that your brother? Is he going to our school?"
I sighed. "Yes.
Once in school, the two of us rushed to The notice board eager to find out what our classes this year were.
"4-5!" We both said at the same time and let out a shriek. Students around seemed to be staring but we didn't seem to care.
"We are in the same class again!" I said excitedly.
"Now, I can proudly say that we have been in the same class all of high school!" Olivia pointed out before we both let out another shriek. Yes, I was happy.
Happily, we hoped and skipped to our new class. We were now seniors. It was our final year in high school and I was going to make the most of it. Except studying of course.
I stood in front of our new class door. I could hear students chattering excitedly. I took a deep breath getting rid of all the bad luck over the years and finally I opened the door.
What?!
I glanced into the room. At the far corner were a group of boys playing roughly, a girl who was blowing a bubble gum her leg on the desk, a group of boys bullying an innocent boy, and Maddie?! Maddie was seated surrounded by almost all the girls.
But what surprised me most was Roy sleeping in the far last row of the classroom. The worst thing was that everyone in the room was someone I knew. So much for new classmates.
No matter how anyone could see it this was bad luck.
"No...This is the wrong class." I said as I turned away.
"What do you mean? You know very well that we always end up in the last class." Olivia says turning me around such that I am now facing the classroom.
She was right. Our school grouped students according to their performance and I, no surprise there was among the last ones. Among not the last.
I sighed. Whether it's fate or bad luck I’m going to get through this!
With my head high I treaded through the door of class 4-5 claiming it as my own. I chose a seat not too far not too near to the front next to me Olivia sits.
