Janet’s P. O. V:1027Please respect copyright.PENANArVaIT4jmLe
Why did I say such horrible things to the teacher? I must apologise to her. I thought as I walked groggily in the hallway recalling what I had said to Ms Emily the previous day. My sleep was completely ruined as tossing and turning around were the only things I did all night. Ms Emily must have been very upset. At lunch, Jason waited for George to finish eating and the moment George went out of sight, Jason chided me for talking to Ms Emily like that.1027Please respect copyright.PENANAgae4eY2zra
So she complained about me to Jason...
I got angry at that. How could he speak as if he was spotless and only I did the wrong thing?
I pushed him back and said, “Oh shut up Jason and stop yelling. Going to a clinic to get Ms Emily tested for pregnancy is not something to brag about!” That seemed to shut him up. The look on his face changed from angry to apologetic.
“I’m so sorry Janet. I wasn't thinking straight. I won’t yell at you again. Please don’t be mad okay?” he asked with such an earnest and baby-faced look. How could I say no to that? I mean, we’re talking about my crush here!
“Alright, it’s okay. Plus I shouldn't have confronted her like that.”
“So we're still friends?” he asked.
Though the word ‘friends’ hurt me, all I said was a simple yes with a forced smile. He breathed a sigh of relief. He seemed to be in deep thought for a few seconds and suddenly asked, “Ms Emily told me that Amy was the one who told you. Is that true?” I nodded. He left without another word with an angry look on his face. George came back after Jason left but was called to the office almost immediately, regarding the club activities.
Before the afternoon session started, a senior girl named Lindsey from the college came into our class. It was actually an established nuisance, you could say. The college owned by the same person as the school was situated in the same campus. Most of the students there were in good terms with the school students but there were a few who were always on the lookout for trouble just so that they could put on a, 'Don't mess with me' façade.
Lindsey looked around trying to pick someone to start a fight with. Everyone was looking at her with a scared look except Amy who wasn't even acknowledging her presence and was reading a comic book.
Hopping mad at the evident disrespect, Lindsey went up to Amy and started troubling her. She snatched Amy's book and threw it out of the window earning some scared whispers from the other students. I being the class president intervened resulting in a quarrel while Amy ran out of the classroom in search of her book.
As luck would have had it, a senior boy happened to come there to see what the commotion was about. When he saw me shouting at Lindsey, he teamed with her. Neither of us was ready to back off and pretty soon the argument got heated to the extent that the guy slapped me. George, who had just returned from the office, saw that and started fighting with that boy.
Oh God! What have I done?
Fortunately George gave the senior whose name I learned was Kenneth, a good beating and sent him out. Just as Kenneth left, George said, “You’re lucky Jason isn’t here.”
What is he talking about? I thought looking George with a doubt if he was alright in his mind. I was sure it was a bluff. As far as I knew, Jason could only yell at others, get into fights with everyone and get beaten up in spite of having a well-developed body. As if right on cue, Jason appeared there but he was looking for someone else as he scanned the classroom quickly and went away, in search of that 'someone' I presumed.
Jason’s P. O. V:
I have to speak some sense into that Amy’s mind I thought as I went searching for her. I planned to talk to her after the lunch break but she was not in the class at that time. So I searched for her after classes ended. I knew that she went home a bit late everyday so I was sure that she was still inside the school.
After searching a little more, I spotted her sitting alone by the side of the tennis court. As expected of her I thought as I walked towards the court. She was reading some book so seriously that she didn’t even notice me till I stood right in front of her and cleared my throat.
“Amy, can you come with me for a minute?” I asked. She nodded and followed me. I started questioning her about what she had told Janet and she immediately got angry and started threatening me that she’d harm Ms Emily and that was more than enough to get me begging.
“You tease me or irritate me one more time and I’ll tell everyone about this, got it?” she asked, agitated.
“Look, whatever it is, your grudge is against me, not Ms Emily. Let’s just settle down and talk this over,” I said trying to calm her down.
“Oh wow! Look who wants to talk things over. Admit it you loser. You came here to shout at me expecting me to flinch and back off, didn’t you? But now you see me with a weapon and you instantly switch your personality to that of some peace promoter. I’ve always hated trouble makers like you, especially you; yelling and getting into fights thinking that there’s no one to stand up against you. I hate you and I wanna make you pay for your arrogance,” she countered.
“Ah, come on! If you hate me, settle your scores with me. Why the heck are you putting Ms Emily’s job and reputation on the line?” I asked back, irritated.
“Hahaha. Sorry, no can do. She’s my trump card and I’m gonna use her,” she said with a nasty looking yet calm face with streaks of innocence; such a confusing look that no one could read her mind.
She looks so innocent and quiet- my thoughts were interrupted when she said, “Kneel down in front of me and say you’re sorry if you want Ms Emily to be safe.” Whoa! I didn’t see that coming. Unfortunately I had no choice but to obey or I would lose Ms Emily.
Emily’s P. O. V:
I was walking towards the car park when I heard a girl yelling from the corner of an old building near the tennis court. I went over and peeked where I saw Amy and Jason. Amy was saying something I couldn’t hear but I could tell by the look on her face that she was threatening Jason.
Suddenly she said in a more audible voice, “Kneel down in front of me and say you’re sorry if you want Ms Emily to be safe.” What was going on? Why was Amy blackmailing him using me as a weapon?
No. Don’t kneel. Don’t kneel!
He went down on his knees in front of her and said, “I’m sorry. Please don’t do anything to Ms Emily. Please don't harm her.”
“So you do love her a lot” remarked Amy.
I lost the nerve to even stand there. The scenes unfolding before me triggered a rather painful feeling in my chest. For some reason, I felt responsible for Jason's misery. I felt concerned and worried about him.
I really wanted to step out and stop the harassment happening right in front of my eyes but being seen by Amy was the last thing I wanted. It was very clear from the look of her eyes that she wouldn't hesitate for even a split second to ruin my life. I felt completely useless.
That poor kid! All for my safety! I thought as I turned away and left the place in tears.1027Please respect copyright.PENANARsRYopit7a
