Kelly’s P. O. V:
“Let’s break up” said Marcus as I entered his house. “What? Why?” I asked, shocked at my boyfriend’s sudden outburst. He simply asked, “Who was the boy you were talking to, earlier today? Someone you are hiding from me?”
What an idiot! “That boy works with me at the pool you dork,” I replied. “Oh yeah? But the way you looked at him told otherwise” he countered.
What’s wrong with this guy?
Anyway our relationship had started to go sour from that moment and I had no intention of arguing with him so I said, “Ok keep it that way, we’re done, bye” and left the house. He was shocked but I didn’t care, he brought that on himself.
As I was walking home, only one boy came into my mind, Jason. It had been quite a while since I spoke to him. I was planning on dumping Marcus myself but that douchebag just made that part easy. He was just an overbearing annoyance anyway. With Marcus gone, I was one step closer to Jason.
However, that didn’t mean that Jason was some trophy sitting on a table, ready to be claimed. I still had to defeat two powerful opponents to get to him. Even after that, I had the most powerful opponent that was Jason himself. After I got angry and rejected him when he proposed to me, we made up and managed to become friends. And that meant that he wouldn’t just willingly accept me.
That problem was sure to lead to the two previous opponents, his friend, Janet and his math teacher, Ms Emily. The chances of Jason accepting me were bleak because he was hopelessly in love with the teacher. Even in the worst case of getting his heart crushed by her, there was always Janet, on the prowl looking for a chance to make him her boyfriend.
Everything just made one thing clear in the end. I had a lot of work to do starting with ruining the lives of the two women standing in my way if that was necessary.
Emily’s P. O. V:
I had a lot of work so I stayed late at school. “Uh, Ms Emily...” someone called. I looked up, it was Jason. What was he doing there so late? He was definitely not the type to finish homework at school.
Is he gonna try to flirt with me, considering that we’re alone. Better safe than sorry.
“What do you want? Don’t try to do anything stupid, I’m really busy now,” I said rather harshly before he could even open his mouth. “No, no I came to ask you a favour. Tell me when you’ll finish work. I need to talk to you,” he replied.
Oh, was I overreacting?
“Alright I’ll finish in an hour. Go, stick your head in the ground and come back later,” I said and sent him out.
After I finished off the work, I walked out of the building with Jason. There was a girl standing at the entrance seeming as if she was waiting for someone. A closer look revealed that she was none other than Kelly. Jason looked shocked when he saw her. “Oh hey Kelly, it’s been a while” he said. “Oh, I was just passing by so I thought I’d visit you. Come on, let’s go somewhere,” she said cheerfully to which he replied in a low voice, “Actually, I can’t. I have an important thing to do with my homeroom teacher, sort of like a coaching class. Any other day would have been fine but not today,” he said in a genuinely sad tone.
“Jason” I interrupted loudly as the whole apologetic atmosphere was making me restless.
“Let’s go” I said coldly and when Kelly saw me, I asked, “You’re Kelly right? What are you doing here?” I saw Jason slowly backing off as if a war was brewing. “I came here to meet my favourite junior. Do you have a problem with that?” She asked back in a hostile tone.
“No it’s not that. Unfortunately he’s not gonna come with you today cause’ he has an appointment with me” I replied and passed her by and got into my car, gesturing Jason to get in.
“I really am sorry Kelly” Jason said “It’s okay, it’s my fault for not contacting you before coming here” she cut him off as he got into the car and I immediately started driving.
For some reason I couldn’t put my finger on, I felt highly intoxicated with the feeling of winning.
As I sat on a bench outside the apartment waiting for Jason to come back from the shop where he had gone to buy a coke for me, I thought about what I had done a while ago. It felt so great then but when I thought about it, it was just plain ridiculous. Pulling Jason away from that girl? Did I really have to do that?
Just then Jason came and handed the coke can to me. As I took it, I asked, “So what did you want to consult me for?”
He seemed to be at a loss for words for a while and then said, “I...Um...the challenge...”
“Yeah, what about it?” I asked rather impatiently as I didn’t like the tone of his voice.
“Let’s do away with it.”
That was when I wished that day never existed and everything that happened that day were just figments of my imagination.
“Look, I really love you and the time we spend together makes me very happy. But to say you will leave the school because of me is unfair and if I still go on with the challenge, it would make me a selfish person which is not something I want to be,” he said with sorrow plastered all over his face.
Think, think of some counter-reply…
“Well, it’s not unfair. I have given you time” I said.
Was that the best you could come up with, snail-paced mind?
“‘I’m giving you one month before which you make sure that you don’t have any lingering attachments left.’ That’s what you’re basically saying under the pretext of giving an advantageous stipulation,” he countered.
No you’ve got it all wrong, Jason!
“So let’s just cancel the bet. I’ll be quiet from now on. I’m sorry for causing so much uneasiness to you,” he added and went inside without speaking another word.
Is that it?
You being quiet is also something I want but…
Does it mean you’re giving up on me? I shouldn’t have gambled on this.
I sat in my room pondering over everything that had happened.
I could still hear him say, “Let’s do away with it.” and boy, that was so not pleasant.
“What’s wrong sis?” asked Carrie who was in my room since God knew when. “It’s none of your business, get out” I snapped.
“The thing that’s troubling you must be… Jason Reed!” she exclaimed clapping her hands shut.
Is she a mind reader?
“Well, you’re right…” I mumbled.
“Why, what happened?” she asked and I told her about the bet and Jason’s reaction to it and she gave a hard whack on my forehead.
“What was that for?” I shouted. She looked really angry so I shut my mouth and let her do the talking. “It hasn’t been a week since I told you not to hurt anybody and here you are, blinking around after tearing that boy apart with a challenge. Mind you, this sadistic approach of yours can eat up all the respect he and his friends have for you,” she yelled and left.
A/N: Whoo! That's it? Jason has finally gotten tired of Emily playing 'hard to get' and has decided to forget her. But, wait, Emily seems desperate to get him back. Will Jason give her another chance or is it all over? Not to mention, Jason has a lot of other admirers too. 850Please respect copyright.PENANAMPrCi9AboQ
