This chapter is dedicated to Lata, a humourous and witty girl whose constant support, appreciation and enthusiasm encouraged me to keep on writing this story at a time when I was pretty discouraged because the story went unnoticed by everyone. Oh and she's rather good at cracking suspenses btw :P861Please respect copyright.PENANAWOdklZGizg
Carrie’s P. O. V:
WHAT IN THE WORLD?!
I planned out everything and made Kate and her daughter leave the apartment. I was hiding in the parking lot to see how Em was doing. She was doing great but that boy? “No, I can’t go out with you,” he said straight to her face and left! As I expected, poor Emily looked broken beyond repair. But I was more worried about Jason. Up until that time he was the one going behind Emily, but now?
I followed him out of curiosity. He turned around a corner and leaned on the wall. Something was wrong. Suddenly he turned around and punched the wall fiercely. Even in the dim street light, I could see blood dripping from his knuckles. Something was definitely wrong. If anyone knew about what was happening to him, it would be George so I went to him the very next day.
“Uh, George? Don’t you think Jason is a bit out of shape recently?” I asked him. “Well, can’t say for sure but he does look bummed out. If anything comes up, I’ll tell you,” he said and left. As that proved to be a wasted effort, I went straight away to Jason himself. Seeing Emily so upset was too much to bear. Also, what I saw the previous night bugged me out even more. I had to talk to Jason.
During lunch, I called him and we went to a deserted hallway. “Okay, spill,” I said. “Spill what?” he asked back.
Now I’m really angry!
I took his hand in mind and ran my fingers over the bruise caused by the ferocious punch he gave the pillar the previous night and said, “Don’t take me for an idiot. I saw everything.”
“I just did what she wanted all this time. She always said that I was her student and nothing else, so be it,” he said in an uninterested tone. I couldn't bottle up my anger any longer.
I busted his lip in a single punch. “Shut your darn mouth. Do you have any idea about the pain she is going through now because of you?”
“I’m such a self-centred sadist aren’t I?” he asked back, holding his bleeding lip with his hand.
Maybe there’s something much bigger going on…
“Hey, think of me as a friend and tell me what’s going on,” I said and then he told me that Kelly became mentally ill because of his rejection which was a bit of a… no scratch that, a whole lot of a shock to me. He took me to the hospital where Kelly was admitted.
We went inside. Kelly was awake. As soon as she saw us she said, “I’m fine and I have to go to school because my attendance is falling but why won’t they let me go?” I could only look at Jason with sympathy.
“Here, drink this,” I said handing him a bottle of juice as we sat on a bench in the hospital premises. “I was wondering, Kelly was your first love right? Do you still have feelings for her?” I asked. “If I still had feelings for her, I would never have gone behind your sister, you know that. The only woman I love is Ms Emily. That hasn’t changed since the moment she hugged me a long time ago, before you even came to this school.” he said.
So he did that purposefully to make Emily hate him? Poor guy!
“I know this isn't easy for you but you have to make a decision,” I said. “I know… It’s just that I love Ms Emily very much but Kelly is important to me as well. It’s because of me she is like this. There is no way I can turn a blind eye and be happy. I feel like an useless addition to the world. Ms Emily is unhappy, Kelly is ill, my dad is displeased with me, I make everyone around me unhappy,” he said. I had to admit that it was making me tearful too.
“Hey, come on, it’s not like you’re doing this on purpose. I know you’re not self-centered, I can see it in your eyes. Only a nice guy gets upset to the point of sacrificing his happiness for a woman,” I said putting my arm over him. He leaned on my shoulder and stared mindlessly at nothing in particular. His eyes were filled to the brim with sorrow. I could not help but blink away a few tears, seeing him and Emily like that.
“Please don’t tell this to Ms Emily,” he said as he got up to leave. But I went in search of her right away, making up my mind to tell her everything. I remembered that she had a free hour so I went to the staff room hoping that she was not doing anything important.
I knocked at her door and the only response I got was a sigh. As I entered the cabin, I spared a moment to get a look at the devastated woman in front of me. Gone was the lady who used to throw a temper tantrum whenever I made a comment about how she looked or behaved. Gone was the lady who looked so cheerful and lively. Gone was the lady who was so efficient at work that she always had time to spare. In fact one could easily mistake her for someone else.
Her outfit was carelessly picked, her hair messily tied up. She never wore any makeup so at least her face remained the same. Well, most of it because the lack of sleep showed right through her swollen, bloodshot eyes. She looked a lot scarier than even Mr Jacob.
“Em, you okay? You seem a bit dull…” I started.
“Does it show that much?” she asked.
“Um… yeah, a bit,” I trailed off.
“I don’t even know what to do anymore, Carrie,” she sighed.
“You see, Jason is not mad at you nor does he hate you,” I said.
“How do you know that?” she asked but not before her face became at least a hundred times brighter and livelier.
“I talked to him just now. The boy doesn’t even know what to do now but was clearly worried about you. So he decisively rejected you so that he could keep you from worrying further. He does love you too much that the thought of having to stay away from you makes him depressed,” I said.
“Is it my fault? Did I cause this to Kelly?” she asked. “No, it’s no one’s fault. But make a decision. If you still persevere before Kelly returns to normal, you can win him over and if you give up, Kelly will have him but either way Jason won’t be completely happy. I told Jason that I wouldn’t say anything to you, but I can’t just keep quiet seeing you sad with the wrong thought that Jason got tired of you.” I said and left without another word.
A/N: Hmm. Okay, now that things have started to take a more gloomy path, put your happy emotions to rest for a while and let the sad ones surface :P
Jason is devastated. Emily is devastated. Desperate to unite them, Carrie is also struggling. Janet is sad because of Jason's agony. On top of all that, Kelly is dreaming about nothing but grabbing Jason.
Where is all this leading??? We'll see in the next issue.
