Jason’s P. O. V:
“What? Why? Please don’t leave mommy... please…” I begged aunt over the phone not to go to some business meet or something which she was so excited about.
Yeah I might’ve been eighteen but four nights without dear aunt? She was among the few who genuinely loved me and cared for me. I had no memory of my own mother. I was told by people that she passed away when I was eight months old. From then on it was aunt who looked after me. Well, you get the picture; aunt and I are super close. I always looked at her as my mother.
“Ah come on Jason, it’s not like I’m leaving you forever…” “Don’t say such things,” I cut her off as I get very emotional when she says something like leaving. “Okay sorry, I put some money under your pillow. I gotta go now. Love you lots, bye,” she said and hung up leaving me to say ‘bye’ to the beeping phone.
Great!
On my way back home from the hotel, I saw Ms Emily sitting on a bench outside the apartment, looking worried. I went up to her and asked what was wrong but she said it was a personal issue. She then got up and we went toward the apartment complex. We walked up to the stairwell together and just as I was about to take a turn into the staircase of my apartment wing, I saw a petrified look on her face. So I followed her gaze and saw Ms Caroline waiting at the bottom of the stairwell to her apartment wing. It didn’t take a genius to figure out that they were not on good terms with each other.
“Um... Jason?” came her voice.
“Yep?”
“Is there any way I could spend the night at your place?”
Really? “Sure. No one is home anyways.”
Emily’s P. O. V:
I was really thankful to Jason for letting me stay the night. I took a shower as it was too hot to bear and realized only then that I had no clothes to change into other than a towel that Jason had given me. As if he had read my mind, Jason handed over some of his aunt’s clothes but immediately ran towards the kitchen shouting “NOODLES!” I changed and went to the kitchen and burst into laughter seeing a pissed Jason sitting in front of a plate of over-cooked, scorched noodles.
As lucky as I was, his aunt’s clothes were an exact fit for me. We talked mindlessly for a while during which I ended up telling him why I went out of the house and he didn’t seem surprised or anything, but said, “I understand how you feel now but it’s not like Carrie wanted this. So it would be better to give her a chance.” I nodded contemplating on whether to pay heed to his advice or let my ego have the upper hand.
After a while, we got ready for bed when a thought came into my mind.
Is this okay? Would he try something nasty?
Ah, shut up Emily. If he wanted to, he would have done it long ago when you were drunk.
Thus comforting myself, I fell asleep. Jason let me sleep in his own bed while he slept on the floor of the hall.
The next morning, I woke up, and saw Jason waiting for me with a nervous look on his face.
What is the brat up to?
He kept looking from left to right, biting his lips. I started to get a doubt if he had set the kitchen on fire or something.
Okay, my curiosity is killing me.
He took out a paper from his pocket. I froze when the realisation came like a bomb blast.
Oh my God! Is he gonna propose to me?
He came up to me.
How am I gonna react?
He handed the paper to me.
A love letter?
I looked at it.
WHAT THE...?!
“Can you cook this for breakfast?” he asked as I stood dumbfounded with the recipe in my hand.
WHAT?! Yeah, way to look like a fool, Emily.
“I’m sorry J but I haven’t cooked at all. My sister does that at home so I never got a chance to cook,” I replied all the while watching his morning smile falter.
Great! I just ruined his day.
“You can’t cook?” he asked in disbelief.
That’s what I said, you dork. Stop embarrassing me.
“Great. I have to eat out now. I was counting on you,” he whined.
“Yeah, whatever. I’m gonna go now,” I said and left.
Only on my way back I realized what an informal and friendly conversation that had been and that I had called Jason, ‘J’ and was completely comfortable with it. [Ooooh!!!]
Carrie’s P. O. V:
I woke up outside the apartment at the bottom of the stairwell where I had obviously spent the night. It was Sunday so no work. Phew! Just the thought is comforting enough. I saw Emily coming in the distance with a grumpy look on her face, so I feigned sleep. Just as she passed by, I grabbed her hand and said, “I knew that you would pass me by so I pretended.”
She pulled away her hand and said, “You stayed out all night, for which I don’t feel a trace of remorse,” and started to walk inside. I continued, “You know, I just wanted to hear a word from you, good or hurtful. That’s why I stayed out,” to which she replied, “Yeah, as if I care.”
Getting along with this woman is gonna be a herculean task.
We entered the apartment and were startled by Kate standing at the doorway.
“So, care to explain what kind of idiots you two are? One storms out, away to somewhere and the other spends the night outside, ruining MY sleep in the process. Quick. Get ready for church,” she shouted and went to get ready but not before giving us the sweet instruction to share Emily’s room leaving me to conjure up the various possibilities of being punished by the devil.
A/N: So... I'm obviously back from my break. My semester hasn't really ended but oh well... It's been quite a while and one chapter just doesn't seem enough to justify my absence so I'll put up two more. Happy reading :D917Please respect copyright.PENANA9sp2Coa0Ne
