Jason’s P. O. V:
The bell rang announcing the end of the morning session hence causing a mad rush. I however was busy with a hundred thoughts circling inside my head like vultures over a battlefield. How did Ms Emily take care of Amy, that girl is dangerous! I thought as I finally stood up to go to eat when I was interrupted by Janet calling me.
“I wanted to apologise to you...” she started.
What is she talking about? I should be the one apologizing!
“I should be the one to say sorry Janet. I’m so sorry for using you as an excuse for going to the music concert with the teacher,” I said.
“Even when I said cruel things to you and her…”she said but I cut her off saying,” I deserved them all. This awkwardness between us is not right. Let’s go back to being the best friends we were okay.”
“Alright. Now how did you guys know where I was and how in the world did you become this strong?” she asked.935Please respect copyright.PENANAH1Mli8Ai7n
“Oh that, we asked Amy where you were. About the fighting and stuff, I underwent some mixed martial arts training and...” I paused for a while. 935Please respect copyright.PENANA1bCYygIEZH
“And?” she asked leaning towards me with a curious look on her face.
Here goes nothing.
“I am a boxer and I also fight in the streets at night. Don’t tell this to anyone okay?”
She looked shocked but nodded and went away.
Whew! Got rid of all the awkwardness between me and Janet at last.
Because of the little chat with Janet, I was a little late for lunch and so was George who waited faithfully for me and the food was over. We decided to eat outside so we snuck out through the wicket gate hidden behind some bushes and went to a nearby hotel. Our peaceful lunch break was frequently interrupted by the loud noises made by a blonde foreign lady wearing a cap and sunglasses, munching away at something.
After sometime I lost my patience and yelled at her.
“Hey blondie, if you can’t eat quietly, get out. You’re making everyone here to lose their appetite.”
Apparently, she didn’t take it well cause’ a quarrel ensued.
“Alright boy, it’s a duel,” She declared summoning me outside.
“Oh yeah? Bring it on!” I challenged.
Always look before you leap.
The foreign girl knew karate! However, I was not an amateur fighter either. I dodged a few of her kicks and quickly yanked at her legs and she fell down but not before dashing her foot against a fire hydrant.
I heard some crunching sounds. I turned around and to my dismay found George watching us eating popcorn!
“Seriously? You think this is some TV show?” I yelled at him, exasperated.
“Bwwhaat? It isshh shhorta amushhing…” he blabbered with his mouth full of popcorn.
We were about to leave when I took a look at the girl. She was still on the floor crying and clutching her injured foot. That got me worried so I sent George back to school and asked the girl where she was staying and carried her there.
I was about to leave when she said," You’re a nice guy. I thought that you would just leave me there. And oh, I’m Caroline, please call me Carrie.”
“I’m Jason,” I replied with a slight smile. I suddenly realized that I was royally late for class.
“I gotta go, I’m late for class. Maybe we’ll meet later, bye,” I said in one breath and ran all the way to school.
At school, Ms Emily obviously did not believe my story of helping a wounded foreigner as she hit me not even with a stick but using her bare hands. Yeah, you would think that’s a good thing; no you’re wrong. It was really painful.
When I went outside, George and Janet saw me and couldn’t stop laughing.
Yeah, laugh at my misery.
“Jason...can we talk?” came a voice, that dreadful voice, that voice which haunted me often.
It was none other than Amy. She hadn’t come to school ever since the day I fought with Emmett.
What does she want now? Another apology?
We went to a lonely spot. I started the conversation asking, “Why didn’t you come to school? Did Ms Emily scold you?”
“No, I wasn’t feeling well. I wanted to apologise for making you get on your knees. I’m sorry and here’s some advice, there is no tree that won’t fall after chopping it repeatedly. What I’m saying is, make a move and she will be yours.”
I had no idea about when she left because it took me a while to decipher her seemingly pointless sentences and when I finally understood that she was talking about Ms Emily, she was already long gone.
It’s so hard to understand this girl I thought as I went back to where Janet and George were waiting for me. I told them just the part where Amy apologised. They already knew about her making me go down on my knees.
“She’s a pretty weird girl, you know. Maybe her ego was too big to let her apologise with the two of us around,” remarked George. I then remembered that Ms Emily was also concerned about Amy’s absence. So I went to the car park and stood waiting for her beside her car.
Emily’s P. O. V:
I saw Jason waiting by my car as if it was natural. “What do you want?” I asked him.
“A ride home,” he replied with solemn eyes.
Oh no, that trick ain’t gonna work with me boy.
I simply shook my head. Clearly he wasn’t expecting rejection as he looked shocked at my response.
"Ah come on, we live in the same apartment anyway. Please...” he whined. It was amusing, watching him beg me but I bluntly replied, “My answer is a big ‘no’. Can’t you walk?”
“Even if I have news about Amy?”
This boy...
“Fine, get in,” I said.
When we got back to the apartment, Jason told me what Amy had said to him. I felt a bit relived that she was alright. I was afraid thinking that she had become depressed because of my rejection or something. Yeah, I overthink a lot.
Then, out of nowhere came a challenge. Jason looked directly at my eyes as he said, “All this time, I was worried that Amy might do something. But, now that it is settled, I’m free to do as I please. Mark my words, Ms Emily. By the time I finish school, I will make you my girlfriend.”
And he left without another word.
I should have done something. I could have done anything, but I just stood there like an idiot. Why?
Because you like the idea of being his girlfriend, piped up my inner voice.
Oh shut up stupid mind!
I just went to my room and threw myself over the bed thinking of what just happened.
