Jason’s P. O. V:
I reached the infirmary ahead of Janet and Ms Emily, just in time to see the school doctor checking Kelly in the observation room with a solemn look on his already solemn face. I were waiting for the doctor to say something. Only Janet came there after a while as Ms Emily had another class to go to. “What’s wrong doctor? Is she gonna be okay?” I asked. He told Janet to wait outside and gestured me to follow him inside to his private room.
“Well, that’s hard to say. She seems to be under a lot of stress and the main cause of the pain is that someone has recently broken her heart. So she is refusing to accept reality. She seems to have forgotten that she has finished school.
It is either that or her school days are the most suitable way out of the painful reality. If I try to remind her of that, she starts screaming and palpitates. This may prove very injurious to her health. We’re transferring her to the hospital nearby,” he said.
All the words that came out of his mouth were like explosive parcels stuffed into my head. “Is there anything that can cure her?” I asked hopelessly.
“You see, these types of mental illnesses are relatively rare and the only known remedy for them is the full time care of the person responsible for the illness. That person has to stay with her and love her so that her mind can heal. She completely believes that that person is the only one she can be with.” he replied.
It was me.
I was that person who broke her heart!
I am responsible for her illness!
I couldn't even form one coherent sentence to say to him. It was just a few days back when she had happily called me out. I had no idea that things could take such a turn for worse.
Janet’s P. O. V:
It had been a while since Jason went inside, so I went in. He was sitting by the bed where Kelly was sleeping. I asked what was going on but he just gave me the cold shoulder.
Let him talk to me when he wants to…
Thinking so, I went and sat outside. A few minutes later, he came out and walked towards the balcony. I just ignored him. After a while I heard him breathing heavily. Worried, I went up to him and saw that he was crying. I didn’t know what to say so I stood beside him thinking of something to say to comfort him.
The moment he saw me, he fell on my shoulder and cried even harder. In all the six years that I’d been his friend, I’d never seen him so devastated. I just stood there letting him cry out all his sadness.
He was so bubbly and happy the previous day and one bad news was enough to make him look like a corpse. Another look at his sorrowful face reminded me of another thing which I was careful not to mention to Jason; Ms Emily had no idea about what was going on. I was sure that this was going to have a huge impact on their budding relationship.
A part of me that still crushed on Jason was hoping that the problem would bring an end to their ill-matched relationship but the other part of me which had moved on was hoping that they'd get together in the end. After all, the happiest I'd seen Jason was after Ms Emily came to the school so it was obvious that she was the apple of his eye.
After a while, Jason straightened himself up and went inside again while I went back to class.
Jason’s P. O. V:
Kelly woke up just as I entered the room. She looked around and asked, “Where am I?” “Kelly are you alright? Can you recognise me?” I asked. “What’s wrong with you? You’re obviously Jason…. Why are you asking weird questions?”
“Uh, n-no… it’s nothing. Are you hurt anywhere?” I asked. “I’m fine. What has gotten into you?” she asked.
So she’s probably alright now…
“Hey Jason, where’s my school bag? Is it still at school?” she asked.
There goes ‘alright’ out of the window.
“You don’t need your schoolbag anymore. You’re a university student. Don’t you remember that?” I asked back.
“Stop fooling around Jason. I’m in my last year of school and you are my junior and we always meet in the movie club. Let’s go get my bag,” she said. I started to lose my temper.
“Don’t tell me this is one of your acting performances Kelly. You’ve finished school and we don’t meet at school anymore. You have to understand that we can’t bring back the past,” I yelled.
Bad idea…
She started screaming. “No, I’m not wrong, I’m not wrong, noooo!” she shouted while I stood speechless.
“What did you do to my sister?” yelled Emmett running in followed by the doctor. Emmett was Kelly’s brother?! Never mind. Kelly calmed down in a minute and resumed looking around absent-mindedly. I couldn’t stand in there, I ran out of the office. It was well past eight o’clock in the night so I started walking home.
Before I could enter into my apartment, someone called me. Turning around, I saw Ms Emily. “What happened to Kelly?” she asked. “Oh it’s nothing. She’s just a bit stressed out,” I said. “Oh, I see. So I was thinking…. Kate and Carrie are not home today and I'm bored out of my mind, why don’t you come over?” she asked eagerly.
Just imagine my frustration; I was unable to love both Kelly and Ms Emily.
Are you holding a grudge against me Lord?
In my distress, I bluntly said, “No, I can’t go out with you.” I looked at her and boy, she looked crushed which was even more painful for me.
