Episode 2 Continued - Murder on Elle Street
TWO YEARS AGO...
"Let me go!" I cried, fighting the men as they held me by the arms, dragging me further and further toward my cage. "Let me go!"
"Stop, fighting, you rat!" one hissed. "The main event's just about to start!"
I was thrown into a box then, crying out when I tumbled forward and rolled onto the ground, sobbing silently as the curtains rolled up.
I looked away when the audience "oohed" and "ahhed" at the sight of me, and I covered the parts of my tattered dress that exposed me, glancing around for an exit.
"This one's damaged but is in perfect health!" the announcer called, voice rattling through my bones.
My eyes grew as I gazed up, and my breath shuttered as the familiar fear consumed me.
"Her right eye was sliced by her own family member, but she's ripe for the picking!" he exclaimed. "Ten thousand, anyone? Going once, going twice."
A couple people raised their hands, making my breath shutter as I gazed around nervously.
"Twenty thousand!"
I breathed shakily.
"Thirty thousand!"
My breaths stilled.
"Forty thousand!"
"LET ME GO!" I screamed then, making the audience gasp in surprise. "LET ME OUT OF THIS CAGE! I DON'T WANT TO BE IN HERE, SO LET ME OUT!"
The entire room silenced at my cry, and I gazed up to find the announcer glaring at me with those cold eyes.
My heart throbbed hard against my cage.
The moment the curtains closed, my eyes rounded, and I gazed around nervously as three people advanced toward my cage.
"No!" I sobbed, scrambling backward until I hit the side. "No! Stay away! Get away!"
They opened the door, and I tried to move away, but they just caught my legs and my arms, making me scream when they lifted me and carried me out.
I writhed against their grips, fighting them when they threw me down onto one of their tables, and I fought them as they held me down.
"Shouldn't have screamed, child," one of them hissed, pulling a blade from his pocket. "Or we wouldn't have to result to this. You are a very talkative one, aren't you? So now we have to tear your vocal cords out."
"No!" I cried, fighting them harder. "NO!"
But the blade sliced slightly into my throat, and I screamed, arching my back. "Somebody save me! Anyone! I don't care who it is! Save me!"
I closed my eyes tightly, sobbing as I waited for the blade to go in deeper.
But the room silenced, and I breathed shakily as I parted my lashes, eyes rounding when the men attacking me were suddenly gone, and I was left alone...
In the darkness.
The lights were off, the songs from the circus's radio echoing through the room like an abandoned amusement part, and everyone... was gone.
"My, my..." someone said, making me shoot up in alarm. "Is that a cry, I heard?"
My eyes rounded when a shadow formed from the darkness, covering the room in a sudden cold as his red eyes glowed like headlights in front of a deer.
The demon... He came back.
"My, I never expected such a small and frail master," the shadow said, chuckling darkly. "But one never expects everything, do they? Not even me."
"You came back..." I whispered.
"You called me back, Phantomhive," he told me. "Which means... that you've made a decision, yes?"
"The... decision..." I whispered in realization.
"Once you decide," he smiled, his bright, white teeth glowing in the room, "you cannot take it back. You cannot reverse the contract; it will stay with you forever. If you take it back, I will end it regardless."
I gazed up at him then, closing my eyes tightly before I opened it then. "I have decided!"
"Good," he answered, eyes glowing a bright red. "Then it's settled."
I suddenly felt my right eye glow, and I breathed shakily, touching under it as I felt warm tears slide down my cheek...
But I wasn't crying.
I touched a tear and pulled back, eyes widening when I found my fingers red.
But I blinked, brows drawing together.
My sight was odd now... it was like I could see a full three-hundred-and-sixty degrees... like an owl almost.
My entire being stilled.
My right eye! I could see out of it!
I quickly dashed over to the mirror on the wall and gazed into it, eyes widening when I saw red tears slipping down my right cheek, and my eye... my right eye...
It was pink—unlike my left—and had a yellow, glowing pentagram in it.
I touched under it, unable to understand how this was possible.
But I suddenly felt a dark presence behind me, and I flipped around, still watching the shadow of the monster consuming the room.
"What shall your wish be, Yumi Phantomhive?" the demon said.
I lowered my arm, and my lashes lowered. "I want to find the men responsible for doing this to me. I want to find the people responsible from taking my parents away from me. I want to find my sister. And I want them dead."
His chuckle echoed through the room, sending chills through me. "I see... a fool's revenge. It reminds me of someone, a little."
I lowered my lashes and looked away.
"And me?" he said then. "What would be your desire of how I act?"
I gazed up then. "You will not lie. You will not cheat. And you will stay by my side and make sure I do not die. You will help me. You will kill anyone who dares to hurt me."
He chuckled low again. "I see... you really are a Phantomhive, aren't you, Yumi? I had a master who was a Phantomhive once. Do you know him?"
My brows drew together. "You did?"
"Yes, indeed, I did." His eyes still glowed. "His name was Ciel. Ciel Phantomhive."
"Ciel?" I echoed, brows drawing together. "You mean my great ancestor from the eighteen hundreds? The one who became the queen's guard dog at age twelve?"
"Indeed," the demon replied. "I served him for quite a while."
"What was his wish?" I said then.
The demon chuckled, eyes locking on me. "Almost the exact same as yours."
I stared.
"Yes, the Phantomhives," the demon recalled. "Since your wish is similar, I guess that I will fit in humankind the same way I fit in at Ciel's time."
I watched as his form changed, and his eyes glowed a dark red as he shrunk down to a tall, lean form, and the lights in the room flicked on.
I stared as a man dressed in a suit and tie stood in front of me, wearing a long, black, tailcoat and freshly shined shoes.
And I just noticed... all the dead bodies surrounding him in a maze; the men who attempted to hurt me.
The demon bowed down, setting his hand on his chest as the curtains from the show rose, and my eyes widened when I took in the seats in the room...
Filled with beheaded corpses and freshly sliced throats, and I stared before gazing back down to the demon.
He just continued bowing, eyes glowing a blood red as he gazed up at me. "I shall be your butler."
