Episode 9 Continued - Ruthless
“Oh, my gooooooooooooosh!” Cammie squeaked, sitting on her knees as she looked out the back window of the limo. “A trip with master! How exciting!”
Yumi just remained in the same seat she always rested, hands in her lap as she kept her eyes closed, clearly trying to block them out.
“Master never takes us on her trips!” Scarlet said, kicking out her legs excitedly. “Thank you so much, master!”
Yumi just hummed in agreement, but more out of annoyance.
“Cammie,” I said then, glancing over at her, “please sit like a civilized human being. This is a car, not a kindergarten classroom.”
She squeaked in response and shrank back into her seat. “Sorry, Sebastian!”
Yumi’s eyebrow twitched in annoyance, although she kept her eyes closed.
“Master?” Maddox said then, eyes sparkling. “Why did you decide to take us?”
Yumi’s eyebrow kept twitching. “Ask Sebastian. He likes being bothered.”
They all gazed over at me in curiosity, eyes sparkling.
“Master,” I said then, sighing, “how ruthless.”
“Says the demon.”
I parted my eyes and gazed over at her in amusement, but she had her eyes open now, staring out the window.
“Hey, Sebastian… is there any food in here?” Carter said then, searching in the compartments. “I’m starving!”
“You just ate lunch, you dingus!” Maddox answered angrily.
“Hey, I only had three burgers, okay?” Carter glared. “A man needs his protein.”
I sighed and glanced over at Yumi. “Master, are you hungry as well?”
She was silent.
“Master,” I repeated more sternly.
She gazed over in annoyance. “What?”
“Are you hungry?” I asked her again.
“A little,” she answered, looking back outside.
I just gazed down and tugged out a small basket I brought, sliding my hands in and pulling out a couple oranges.
I tossed one to each servant, and they caught it before starting to peel them with their hands.
I just closed the box and held the last orange in my hand. “Master, what troubles you so?”
“Whatever do you mean?” she said sarcastically.
I pulled a pocket-knife out from my jacket and flipped it open, watching the sunlight beam off it and reflect off master’s eye. “Being passive aggressive isn’t answering the question, my young lord.”
She sighed and shook her head, and I started running the knife along the circumference of the orange, peeling it slowly. “I don’t like this ‘father’ guy,” Yumi said.
“I don’t think any of us do,” I answered, continuing to peel it.
“And I am majorly inconvenienced today,” she said then, setting her head against the wall. “Not only did you give me a sneeze fest, but these four loons are giving me a headache.”
I glanced over at them as they immersed in a conversation about lions and tigers, and I stopped cutting when I reached the middle of the orange, leaving half of it unpeeled so it looked like a bowl, and the fruit itself stuck out like a wad of Jell-O. “Yes,” I answered, “they tend to do that.”
I then moved to slicing the knife into the middle of the orange, cutting the fruit gracefully into small sections.
“What is the point of all this?” Yumi said then, brows drawing together as I gazed up. “Why create all these monsters? Out of pure curiosity? Out of personal gain?”
I finished cutting and clicked the knife shut, lightly flashing her eye one more time.
I then held the fruit out to her, and she kindly took a slice from the makeshift orange-bowl I made.
“You did mention an apocalypse, my lord,” I said as she chewed.
Yumi just caught another slice. “Yes, but why?” She put it in her mouth and continued chewing. “Is it the government? A magical creature like you? Who else would want to cause such chaos?”
I kept holding the make-shift bowl to her as she caught another slice. “I don’t know the answer to that, master.”
When she finished eating, I pulled the bowl away and set it aside, placing my hands in my lap as she stared back out the window.
“It’s curious, isn’t it?” she said then, brows drawing together. “I wonder who’s behind all this.”
