Episode 1 Continued - The Deal with the Devil
"Is he still screaming?" I wondered as Sebastian buttoned up my nightshirt.
"No, my lord," he answered, finishing with the last button. "He stopped twenty minutes ago."
I sighed as Sebastian moved up and quietly unwound the tie from my eyepatch. "God, his cry was so irritating. It was like hearing a shriveled cow scream."
"You didn't have to hear it for long, master," Sebastian answered, pulling my eye patch off. "You moved away without telling me."
"All I did was go to the study," I answered, scoffing. "And don't cry about it. You'd find me in seconds no matter how far I ran."
"I would," he smiled, standing now, "you are right about that."
"Sebastian, hand me the mirror." I held out my hand.
He lightly picked it up from my nightstand and gave it to me, and I raised it to my sight.
My lashes lowered.
The eye I always hid... it was still the same.
My left eye was its normal blue color, contrasting my inky black hair that I quietly hated, but my right... it was still pink, clouding over my iris as a large star-like shape replaced my pupil, followed with a circle surrounding it and one around that.
The pentagram was still there.
I expected it to be. It was there ever since Sebastian joined me, and I never really hated it, but I tried to hide it because it looked so abnormal.
Sebastian had the same symbol on his left hand, and he hid it with his white gloves, along with those black nails that marked him as a demon.
No one seemed to question his red eyes, though. Although I do suppose that they weren't really noticeable unless he wanted them to be. They were more like an orange—a light yellow—when he was calm, so I guess they looked normal.
But the pentagram... it was the mark of our contract, the one between Sebastian and I, the one that promised he'd be by my side... until the very end.
The end that he would bring.
"Are you alright, master?" Sebastian said.
I gazed up to find him staring down at me, eyes reflecting the lights in the room so easily.
"I'm fine," I replied, holding the mirror out to him.
His lashes lowered over his red eyes, and he watched me suspiciously for a moment.
He always knew when I was lying, but most of the time, he never said anything.
He took the mirror and set it on the nightstand. "You have a big day tomorrow, master. So get some rest."
I got onto the bed and shuffled under the covers, sighing as Sebastian pulled the sheets up to my shoulders and stood up.
I turned over when he walked to the door, flicking off the lights and touched the doorknob.
"Sebastian," I said.
He turned, brows raising.
I turned further to my side. "Stay."
He smiled a little. "Is that an order?"
I nodded.
He just sighed and let go of the doorknob, stepping over to the bed and kneeling beside it. "You do this every night, master. I have some things to do, you know."
"You can do them later," I answered, getting slightly irritated. "Plus, you made that stupid dinner in ten seconds, anyway. And don't complain. You leave when I fall asleep, anyway. So don't cry about it."
"Who's crying, master?" he answered, still smiling.
"Shut it." I turned over onto my other side, closing my eyes.
I felt him remain where he was.
"Is it because there's always bad people at night or is it because you just want someone here?" Sebastian said then, and I nearly glared at the amusement in his voice. "Do you feel alone, master?"
"I don't have to tell you anything," I answered. "And be quiet. That's an order."
He just chuckled but said nothing more.
"There's rats in the basement because Maddox made a mess of things," I said then, "clean it up when you leave, understand?"
"Yes, master." His voice was quiet.
