OVA Continued - Maddox Dannon
TWO YEARS AGO...72Please respect copyright.PENANAFY9aTBAMBj
“Symptoms?” the doctor said as I sat on the bed in my hospital room, scratching down notes on a piece of paper. “Mister Dannon?”
I just stared off into space lazily, my mind fraying like wire and refusing to catch a single thought that passed by.
It’s like… I was on autopilot.
“Maddox?” she said then, watching me curiously. “Symptoms? Any delusions, hallucinations, or pain?”
No… I felt… nothing.
It was like I wasn’t human anymore.
I kept staring off into space blankly, blinking once or twice as she scanned me.
She scratched notes down. “Perhaps too much, then.”
A knock fell on the bedroom door then, and she looked up as I remained numb. “Yes?” she said. “Who is it?”
“It’s me,” one of the guards said, “according to the higher-ups, he’s cleared for discharge.”
She dropped her clipboard then, face growing pale. “Wait… what? Hold on… no. He’s supposed to be here for twenty years, and it’s been one.”
“He’s been clear of all charges,” the guard said then, eyes darkening. “According to the local police office, they found the actual culprits of the murders as NOVIA themselves. Maddox Dannon was framed.”
She gazed over at me then, but I remained numb. “But I thought….”
Her fingers twitched in panic, and she stared at me as I felt my eyes remain soulless, just staring at the small little speckles on the wall.
“I’ll go get his stuff,” the guard said then, leaving the room.
“Shit,” the doctor breathed. “NOVIA told me the police would never figure it out. Fuck.” She snapped her gaze to mine. “You snotty little brat. You’re lucky you’re still alive!”
I never responded, never felt any pain or surprise or recognition from her words, just… nothing.
She stood then, glaring down at me. “I would execute you myself if I had to. You have it COMING.”
“That won’t be necessary,” a voice said.
Her gaze snapped immediately to the doorway.
I just let my head fall to the side, seeing a tall man with bright, red eyes and dark, black hair standing in the doorway, and a girl stood next to him. An oddly short girl with black hair and an eye patch.
“Who the hell are you?!” the doctor snapped.
“Hello,” the girl said then, lips curling into a smirk, “my name is Yumi Phantomhive. I police the Underground and take down criminals like you and NOVIA, saving innocent victims like him.” She gestured to me.
“But…” the doctor scoffed, “you’re just a child. You look no more than thirteen.”
“I’m sixteen, thank you,” she snapped, eye sharpening. “And… look at that poor thing.” She gazed over at me. “They got to your soul, didn’t they? How unfortunate. I guess the only way to get back at them is to get to their soul, too.”
Her eyes snapped to the doctor. “You’re a doctor, Miss Vernonia. You should know to treat a patient with expert and modern care. Shocking their brains is very old fashioned, you know.”
Vernonia just clenched her teeth. “Who are you to speak, you little brat? Just because you have some family legacy doesn’t mean NOVIA won’t take you down. They take everyone down.”
“Ah, no, you see…” the girl said then, smiling sharply. “I just explained that in order to get back at them, we must take their soul, or didn’t I say that?”
Vernonia’s eyes widened. “What?”
“Jail risks escaping,” the girl explained, smiling sharply at the doctor. “So, I ordered Sebastian here to put an end to all of them. Every single being in that entire company…” her eye hardened to stone, “DEAD.”
“All except for you,” Sebastian replied then, smirking. “You are the last, and the only.”
“But… the police freed him,” Vernonia said, looking over at me worriedly. “Why would they free him if all their suspects are murdered?”
“Ah, correction, Doctor,” the girl said, gazing up. “I freed him. The police no longer have a say in the matter. I took over the investigation right after figuring out they took an innocent boy into custody. It’s what the rich do, isn’t it? They commit wrong-doings and frame innocent bystanders, thinking they have all the power in the world… although… they don’t have power over their own death.”
Vernonia just stepped back, voice shaking. “You can’t… you’re bluffing.”
“I honestly don’t need you to believe me,” the girl answered, sighing. “They’re gone which means the company will go bankrupt. I’ve made sure of it. So… now that I found Mister Maddox here,” she gazed up at the doctor, “I have no use for you.”
Vernonia just breathed shakily, glancing between them shakily.
The girl’s smile just widened. “Sebastian,
“Kill her.”
