I was so not happy. I wanted to have lunch alone with Jason but that plan went down the drain. I was busy cutting vegetables when Janet apologised for saying rude things to me. I let it go because it was just a misunderstanding.
Luck was a friend that day so I cooked the dish I had learned without burning down the kitchen. Janet was a really good at cooking. She knew the exact amounts of the ingredients, the time needed to cook it to the right level, well just about everything.850Please respect copyright.PENANA1OhAGhL5up
After a while, the food was done so we took it to the hall where the boys were playing cards with CARRIE!
Okay. Now I really feel my blood boiling!
“What the heck are you doing here?” I asked her and she calmly replied, “I think I should be the one to ask that, Emily.”
“Alright shall we have a little talk outside?” I asked grinding my teeth.
“Su...sure,” she stammered and followed me. Once we were out of earshot, I asked her bluntly, “Just what are you trying to accomplish?”
And the calm face was back. She said, “I wanna make Jason fall in love with me” in such a tone as if it was the most natural thing in the world. I couldn’t help but glare at her. Who was she to take away my Jason?
“What are you looking at me like that for? Jason has the charm, the grit, and the looks. What more would a woman want from a man?” she asked.
“Pfft. Do you know the marks he gets at school?” I asked her with failing hopes that she’d buy it. Jason struggled only in math. He had good grades in all the other subjects. Yeah, I was a bit upset about it but he was starting to improve a bit. If I gave him a little more attention, he’d have no problem with math either.
My hopes got buried deep as Carrie saw right through my ruse. “Ha ha. The only subject he fails is math. He has more than ninety per cent in all other subjects, Emily. May be it’s your fault. Who knows? Any way that doesn’t really matter to me. As far as I’m concerned, he’s perfect and luckily is single” she said.850Please respect copyright.PENANAoEHnY7e0vr
The nerve of this woman! I wanted to give her a hearty slap. No, Jason wasn’t available. Not for her, not for anyone. He was mine, all mine! Had life been a cartoon, you could imagine me as a little girl stomping her foot on the ground, so angry that her face was red and smoke was coming out of her ears. However I couldn’t just tell her that he was in love with me. What if she blabbered it to Janet? I was thus trying really hard to maintain my composure without losing it and fighting with her.
However the unfortunate happened. “No he’s not, he’s mine,” I blurted out subconsciously. I was out of words to chastise my uncontrollable mouth.
“Well well well... Look at what the cat dragged in. What makes you think that he’s yours? It’s not like you two are engaged.”
Oops. I didn’t even think about that!
Carrie continued, “Mark my words sis. Stay sharp and be on your guard because I will pry him away from you. I’ll do whatever it takes to snatch him away and make him like me more than he likes you within a month. You think that he’ll always be yours but you’re wrong. When he has turned to me, you’ll look up only to see that he has left you. After that I’ll not be held responsible for your misery.”
With that she turned around to go inside leaving me scared and speechless.
“What is taking them so long?” I heard George ask with an exasperated sigh as we neared the door. It had been nearly twenty minutes since we went outside to talk so it was only natural that they were curious. I entered the room with hatred painted bright on my face. My supposed-to-be afternoon with Jason was completely ruined. I forced Carrie to kill time with only George to accompany her while Jason, Janet and I finished lunch. I was frustrated beyond control but letting it show wasn’t an option so I decided to play the ‘I’m-innocent’ card.
As soon as I finished lunch, I got up and took leave in the politest manner possible. It was so obvious that Jason was unhappy about me leaving. That meant my plan was working. Carrie was absolutely stunned by my acting skills. “I’m not fooled. You’ll pay for this,” she mouthed with a frown, standing behind the others. Stifling a devious smirk, I went out and to my apartment. I was damn sure that Jason would have gotten the impression that Carrie was the bad one and that I was the victim.
If you’re naughty, I’m bad; If you’re bad then I’m evil I thought as I walked towards my apartment.
Jason’s P. O. V:
After Ms Emily left, I couldn’t help but glance at Ms Caroline with a blaming look. “Whoa! What’re you looking at me like that for?” she asked.
“Ms Caroline, I wanna know what you did to her?” I asked back.
“What?! That’s downright rude, Jason! Learn to talk politely. I’m so disappointed,” she said looking flustered. It was evident that she was hiding something.
“Okay then what did the two of you talk outside for that long?”
“That was about a personal issue. That is none of your business. It was fun today, I’ll get going now,” she said and left quickly. That only made it evident that she had said something to Ms Emily.
In the next few days I saw a prominent change in Ms Emily’s behaviour. She took extra care while teaching math explaining each step in the simplest way possible. She would come to my house almost every evening to give me additional coaching with the hard parts of the problems. In fact, I never found math difficult, I just didn’t like the topics because the previous teacher never cared to tell us about the use of the topics in later life.
In short, within a week I felt closer and attached to her. I also felt myself understanding math more easily.
Ms Caroline on the other hand seemed to have had the same change as she also cared more for me but that didn’t influence me much.
Then I remembered something. Maybe, when they went out to talk that day, Ms Caroline must have told Ms Emily to give me more attention. I felt like a fool for doubting Ms Caroline
Carrie’s P. O. V:
I told Emily that Jason was perfect only to scare her but as I thought about it, he was charming. I made up my mind to take my chances with him. Personally, I never cared about the age difference and stuff like that. To me, age was just a number. As far as I was concerned, if two people liked each other, they had a right to be together. I visibly cared more for him but it seemed that my performance was not up to the mark. Instead Jason noticeably became close to Emily.
No, I cannot allow this to continue. I’ll resort to more aggressive measures if the situation calls for it.
I kept trying the I-care-a-lot-about-you technique but that proved to be a failure. So I upped my attack style. I started working on my appearance along with giving him attention. But in the end, only one thing became clear. That boy was way too much obsessed with Emily to even notice me. All I earned for the next few days were wolf-whistles from other guys whom I didn’t give a damn about, a couple of proposals from some other teachers and a lot of death glares from the female students.
And that was when I decided to give it all. Tomorrow's gonna be a long day, I thought as I got ready for bed.
A/N: Oh, what's Carrie gonna do now that she is determined to make Jason fall for her? What'll be Emily's answer to that? We'll see in the next chapter. Till then, bye!
