Episode 2 Continued - Murder on Elle Street
“Master, I must comment,” Sebastian said as we sat in my limo, quickly speeding down the highway to get to London.
“Oh?” I said, arching my brows. “What is it now?”
“Well, I’ve noticed that you’ve been trying to kill me for the past two years. It’s very unsettling, you know.”
I scoffed. “Kill you?”
“Well, a year ago, you poisoned my morning tea with arsenic. And five months ago, you filled the entire kitchen with flour and then asked me to walk in there with a candle because it was a ‘surprise,’ and then after that you attempted to shoot me with your gun. And then just now you threw a letter opener at me!” He sighed and set his cheek in his hand. “I am a faithful servant. Whatever did I do to deserve such a thing?”
I scoffed. “Oh, shut it. You know you can’t die.”
A small smile formed on his face.
“Plus, the flour incident was kind of funny.” I cleared my throat. “People told me that if there was flour dust everywhere, it would act as an explosive gas if you lit a flame next to it. So I wanted to test that theory.”
“By bombing me?” he questioned.
“I mean… you can’t die, so why not?” I shrugged, smiling a little. “You were all black. It was like one of those cartoons.” I snickered. “You walked in the room, gasped, then boom! The entire kitchen was in shambles, and you were just standing there, covered in soot and unharmed, with a bored look on your face.” I set my hands on my knees. “I should’ve taken a picture, but I forgot my phone upstairs.”
“Ah, yes… an experiment,” Sebastian nodded, “definitely.”
“What?” I said, crossing my arms over my chest. “It was.”
“Then why did you try to poison me?”
“I wondered if it tasted like strawberries, and don’t act as if I poisoned you! The moment you smelled it, you knew. It’s a demon’s intuition, I’m telling you.”
“And then shooting me?”
“You caught the bullet between your two fingers,” I stated honestly. “How is that trying to kill you?”
His lashes lowered. “You shot me ten more times.”
“Yes, and you dodged and caught all of them! Not one entered your skin. Your point?”
“It’s not that you completed the act,” Sebastian said, sighing and shaking his head. “It’s that you attempted it.”
“Yes, because I can kill the ‘all mighty Sebastian,’” I said sarcastically. “That’s impossible. I just liked seeing you work! When you realized your tea was poisoned, you didn’t even look fazed! In fact, the moment you smelled it you looked a little irritated and poured it in the plant.” I looked grim. “The plant died that day.”
He just rolled his eyes. “Ah, master. What shall I do with you?”
“And you catch the bullets between your fingers,” I continued, pointing up matter-of-factly. “And the knives… and the letter openers… and the darts… and the forks… and… yup.”
Sebastian just sighed and shook his head. “You have a dark sense of humor, my lord.”
I sent him a look. “Says the demon.”
“Just because I’m a demon doesn’t mean I’m sadistic,” he stated, closing his eyes and tipping his head up.
“Oh, yes,” I said sarcastically, “making contracts with various human beings, knowing that you’d rip their soul from their chest, and then feast on it as a midnight snack. Or—if you want the soul right then and there—you think it would be better to slaughter them with a chainsaw and have dinner on the street. Definitely not sadistic.”
He sent me a small smile then.
I just rolled my eyes. “You are insufferable.”
“As you’ve said before, my lord.”
