Jason’s P. O. V:
Sorrow, pain and frustration were the only things circling around my head as I sat at my table in utter turmoil. All the nice, though few moments that I had with Ms Emily were heaven to me and for all that to come crashing down in an instant was like a heavy blow right to my face.
Honestly, I never expected the challenge to come from her. In the light of the recent events, especially the trip, I was pretty sure that she would accept my love for her but to my dismay, she took a sudden detour via strugglesville. I talked about it to George because saying anything about Ms Emily to Janet seemed to aggravate her. George was sure that the challenge was a sign of Ms Emily falling deeper for me but my mind wasn’t ready to pay heed to his words.
There were a few reasons why stealing her heart was difficult, the first one being her reticence. She would not let me make a move and a move from her side would require something like a third world war. Secondly, even if she let her notorious guard down, I could not just hold her, kiss her or even hug her like any other normal couple because Ms Emily unwittingly made a lot of enemies in the staff room because of her proficiency in teaching. That meant there were spies on the prowl, waiting for one small stain on her record and I couldn’t afford for that to happen.779Please respect copyright.PENANAAERI8xJHs7
Also, no matter how much I loved her, I just could not let all the other students bear the brunt of my blunder if she resigned. She was a new teacher, sure but her methods and approaches won the hearts of all the guys. No one else took that much care while explaining something to the students and it showed right after the first couple of tests. I used to be hopeless when it came to math and at the start of the year, for me to get a mark above five was an achievement. Thanks to Ms Emily, I climbed up to the distinction category. This happened not just to me but to most of the boys so Ms Emily leaving the school would be the same as failing everyone unconditionally.
Initially I did think of telling my dad as a difficulty but compared to the newly risen problems, that seemed like nothing.
“Honey, what is it?” came a voice that needed no introduction, snapping me out of my trance.
“Um, you see mom, it’s…”
“Emily?” she cut me off and I nodded.
“Care to tell me what happened?” she inquired.
“She challenged me to win her over in a month. If I don’t do so, she’ll leave the school. That’s what she said but I know that stealing her heart in a month is impossible and I don’t want her to leave the school either. What should I do now?” I asked. Mom looked a bit angry.
“She’s gone too far. No one toys around with my son! Fall back. Act like you’re giving up on her,” she replied almost immediately, in that rare angry tone.
“Wait, what? Give up?” I asked in disbelief.
“No, you idiot. Act like you give up. Give space all of a sudden. Stop chasing her, cancel the bet. Say that you don’t want her to leave and that you’d stay silent as her student and nothing else. Give her a little shock of reality. Let her grip the fact that the heart can only take so much before it shatters. Do it and she’ll chase behind you, trust me on this,” she said and went away to prepare dinner, leaving me dumbfounded. I was a bit unsure of whether to follow her advice on relationships but her advice always worked wonders so I decided to give it a shot.
The next day, I called Ms Emily and the moment I asked her to do away with the bet, her composure came crumbling down. She tried reasoning with all her might but I did not budge. It was evident that aunt was right. All I had to do was wait and let Ms Emily come to me.
A/N: Saw this coming?? :D Bet you didn't :P Well, hopefully this cleared the doubt about Jason's decision (but made you angry at Jason XD)
But for now, let's not get carried away by this because along another path, a major villain is travelling. Let's see about her in the next chapter which will be up tomorrow :)))
