Ms Emily looked really mad. I was sweeping my brain for anything I'd done wrong only to draw a blank. Taking her eyes off the envelope, she looked directly at my face and said those words, those scalding words, powerful enough to scar someone into depression.
"Look. Just because I like music doesn't mean you can buy concert tickets and expect me to watch them with you. We are NOT EVEN FRIENDS, got it? Yeah, I've done childish things in front of you, but that doesn't mean I am your friend and..." "ENOUGH, it's fine, I understand," I cut her off. Her words literally sliced through my heart. I knew I was tearing up but it was too late.
"My father got them for me. I'll just give them to you" I said pushing the envelope into her hands. By then, the tears in my eyes were clearly visible. I turned around and walked away before she could open her mouth. This is what I get for loving her? Darn it. Oops! I think I said that out loud.
Whatever, I don't care.

I went home right after that little 'incident'. I was in desperate need of someone's help to pour my frustration out. As lucky as I was, that 'someone' was sitting right in the living room watching TV. Just a moment of seeing her dusted off some of my sadness.
"Mom?"
"Yeah honey?"
"Can I be loved in 'that' way?" I asked making sure to emphasise on the word 'that' so that she wouldn't ask again. "Why are you asking such a question?" she asked convincing me that my emphasis technique alone wasn't enough. Hiding my irritation, I explained, "I'm not asking if I can be loved by you in that way, I'm asking in general."
She seemed to be in deep thought. To a random person, she'd look like an evil mastermind laying out some lethal plan. After a while she said, "That depends on your behaviour. I know that you are a sweet guy but you know I can't love you like that. I'm your aunt and all."
"Oh shut up! You're my blood relative and you're thirty six years old!" I retorted with a half-smile though. She could be such a teenager sometimes. "Alright, alright. The point is, you don't need to have these doubts. If a woman really deserves you, she'll sense your character and will come to you," she said. A smug smile then crawled its way on to her face and she added, "You're asking this because of Emily aren't you?" I nodded. If you're wondering, yep, she knows. I tell her everything. You may even think that she knows more about me than myself.
"Okay speaking of which, why aren't you married despite being so beautiful and caring? You know such a combination only exists in fairy tales, right?" I asked back stealing her smug grin. "Jason, we've talked about this before. I travel around a lot and I've never actually met anyone impressive so I've lost interest. Moreover if I leave, who'll take care of you? And enough with the flattery," she said with mock-anger in her voice. "Never thought of that. Then don't marry. And I'm not flattering, it's the truth," I said counting my answers with my fingers, smiling already. Aunt was the only one who could make me laugh no matter in what mood I was. Even George could not do that.
Emily's P. O. V:
"ENOUGH, it's fine, I understand," shouted Jason. I felt like kicking myself in the face after what I saw. My words had come out too harsh. I couldn't bear the look on his face, I couldn't stand the sight of the tear rolling down his cheek. He turned and started to walk but I was sure I heard him say, "This is what I get for loving her? Darn it." For loving me?
That night, I couldn't sleep. What do you expect? Sleep like a rock with the boy's hurt face popping up every now and then? Jason was all I could think of. I finally fell asleep at about midnight. As expected, the venom laced line, "ENOUGH, it's fine, I understand," kept toying with my mind. After what felt like about seven or eight hours, I woke up and to my surprise it was still dark. How was that even possible?
I dared to sneak a peek at my table clock.
01:34 AM.
That was when I lost my mind. I sat up and laughed at the poor clock and shouted at the top of my lungs, "JASON, YOU IMBECILE!!!!!"
Bad idea. I heard panicked footsteps approaching. My room door flung open and there stood a bewildered Kate. Before she could switch on the light, I closed my eyes pretending to sleep.
"Emily, did you shout just now?"
"Eh? Wh-What?" I asked pretending to trail off in a sleepy voice.
"Oh sorry, maybe you had a bad dream. Sleep tight sis," she said and left.
Yeah, as if sleeping is possible now I thought. Another look at the clock and reality slapped me. I had to sleep or I would be in for utter embarrassment the next day.
God probably saw me rolling about on my bed so He kindly chased away the nasty dreams and let me sleep peacefully for the rest of the night. Before I slept though, I thought up what to say to Jason the next day because he was probably having a sleepless night too.

A/N: Aww! Poor Emily, she doesn't know that Jason has calmed down and moved on thanks to his aunt. What's gonna be her response? Is she gonna safeguard her ego and be angry at him or is she gonna apologise to him for her unnecessary harshness??
