The New Recruit
The trumpet blows and all the new recruits lined up to meet their drill sergeant.
“Where is he?”
“He is late?”
“No way!”
“This is the army for pete’s sakes. There is no way a drill sergeant would be late.”
“I bet he is sipping on a cocacola in his air conditioned office right now.”
“Ya think?”
“It’s hot!”
“I feel like I am in an oven.”
Despite all this, one of them noticed something off about one particular recruit. Short, tanned skinned and having a goofy smile on his face.
Except he wasn’t a he.
He nudged his brother who was pissed about standing in the hot sun. “Who’s the chick?”
“What chick?”
He pointed at the female recruit standing in between two tall men and she was still smiling.
“Do you think she is lost?”
“Don’t know. Why don’t you ask her?”
He nudged the recruit on his right and pointed out the female recruit. Then the one to his right nudged the next one and the sequence continued until it reached the tall man standing next to her.
The curious recruit watched as his fellow recruit talked to her and gave him her reply. He passed it on to his fellow standing at the left until it he got the message.
His brother stared at his sibling’s confused face.
“Well, what did she say?”
“She said she…”
Now it was his turn to be confused but he didn’t dwell on it for long because of the black jeep which pulled up in front of them.
