“Bigger than mine you said,” the sadistic Sergeant mocked as the poor recruits continued to do pushups in the mud as the heavy rain poured down on them. “Too bad all of you won’t have the balls to say that after I am done with you.”
From doing pushups in the rain to jogging under the thunderstorm and going through the obstacle course in the mudpatch, the recruits were finally happy when the grueling exercise came to an end but the Serge had one more trick up his sleeve and it wasn’t nice.
It was standing under the rain.
“Let’s see if you have the balls to withstand the elements. Anyone who sneezes, sniffs or shivers will stay an hour longer and I will be watching you.”
Unfortunately, being new recruits didn’t help them when it came to this so some sniffed, sneezed and shivered adding more hours to their stay. What the recruits did was to blame Alice for their current predicament and plotted on how to get back at her.
Alice on the other hand didn’t like the idea of standing in the rain either and had to think of a way out. Once he walked passed her, she looked back, smiled and started to sing ‘Singing in the Rain’ by Gene Kelly much to the rest of the recruits’ dismay.
The Serge on the other hand was happy she did this because it only added to the recruits’ misery. What he wasn’t happy about was how she was singing it, mixing up the lyrics, changing the tempo and singing off tune.
Finally, he had enough. “If you are trying to make my ears bleed it is not going to work.”
She ignored him and sang louder frustrating the Serge.
“Why you little…”
“Sergeant Darth!” a gruff voice barked.
The Sergeant looked around franticly before spotting the Colonel Ash looking down from him from his window with a glare.
“Yes Colonel!” he yelled stamping his foot and giving a salute.
“Get your recruits out of here! Especially the one singing! I am trying to get some sleep!” and with that he closed the window.
The Serge looked at the closed window then at Alice who gave him a sly grin and opened her mouth to sing another verse.
“CLEAR OUTTA HERE!” he yelled and they ran back to the singing quarters.
It was two in the morning meaning the recruits had three more hours to sleep before waking up to another rude awakening. As they dried themselves, Alice giggled.
“The Serge said no sneezing, no sniffing and no shivering. But he didn’t say anything about singing.”
In response, the crew threw their towels at her face.
