I tried on everything in my closet before deciding on what to wear. Muscle shirt, dark denim, combat boots and a leather jacket it is. I can still picture the devastated look on her face when Blaze told her about my year as a rebel. I didn’t set out to hurt her. I didn’t set out to screw every girl I came into contact with, but it happened.
I was lost. Aria had been sent to prison and I didn’t know if I would ever see her again. For all I knew she could be dead. It wasn’t uncommon for the prisoners on the Fortress to come up missing.
Every day I dreaded seeing her name pop up on a hologram as being extinguished. It got so bad that I stopped watching television altogether. Instead I turned to rigorous work out regimens and lifting weights. I couldn’t pay a girl to talk to me then, but before I knew it, girls started to look at and respond to me differently. I no longer had to try. They were always girls willing to do whatever I wanted and it provided me with a temporary escape. I took whatever they wanted to give me, including their hearts, without ever giving anything back in return. It became a vicious cycle I didn’t know how to break. It was addicting.
I didn’t think I’d ever be able to stop until I ran into a girl named Lexi. Half her head was shaved on one side and she had these long braids that fell to the middle of her back. Her smooth dark chocolate complexion was breathtaking. She was exotic. Like me, she was half Demon and half Angel and we were both exploring our dark side.
Lexi was beautiful. She had curves that could make you bite down on your knuckles if she were to stand before you naked, full breasts, and full lips. She had this no nonsense sense of humor and she didn’t take crap from anyone.
The first time I met her was at a nightclub. I was hiding from my parents for the millionth time because of something I’d done. I knew the one place they wouldn’t come looking for me was within the human Galaxy, so that’s where I went. New York is the city that never sleeps so I decided to put its title to the test. I was sitting at the bar of the famous forty-forty club when she walked in with another group. We locked eyes and she seemed surprised to see another half-breed in the club. Her curiosity got the better of her. She sat down beside me at the bar and bought me a drink. Ten minutes later we were going at it in the Corzo lounge.
Usually after a one-night stand I’d make it a point never to see a girl again. No strings and no feelings. That was my motto. Breaking away from Lexi wasn’t that easy though. We kept running into each other and whenever we did, we couldn’t help ourselves. The sex was explosive.
Realizing we couldn’t avoid each other, and after a slew of girls who didn’t compare, Lexi and I agreed to be friends with benefits. The odds of crossing paths with a girl like Lexi proved to be few and far in-between.
Things were great for a while. I had someone to talk to and whenever I sought release from my sexual frustrations she was more than happy to oblige. But there were warning signs. Signs I didn’t pick up on until it was too late.
Lexi talked me into getting a place in the city so we could have a place to go. I allowed her to stay there since she was living with relatives and wanted a place of her own. Slowly but surely she began to do little things like decorate. She started wanting more. More of my time, more of my attention and more from me. That’s when I knew…she was in love with me.
I pulled away and stopped spending so much time with her. We began arguing soon afterwards. The arguments got so bad that I no longer wanted to come back. I stayed away for a month and when I finally came back to end it, she was already gone. She didn’t leave a note, just a small token of her affection…an infinity stone.
“Seriously Havoc, you take more time getting ready than most women.” Sky teases, freeing me from my thoughts.
“You don’t rush perfection.” I wink.
“Whatever. Get your butt downstairs before a mutiny ensues and you’re demoted for tardiness.”
After flicking off the bathroom light and I went downstairs. Everyone was present except Aria. I started to ask where she was when I heard footsteps behind me. Aria descends the stairs and I swear to God my heart stopped beating. She wore a soft pink baby doll dress that accentuated her olive toned skin and her slender toned legs. I couldn’t take my eyes off of her. My palms were instantly sweaty and it took a quick prayer to Alpha to stop the growing tent in my pants.
“What do you guys think?” Blaze asks. She had to be behind Aria’s makeover, because Aria would never wear something like that. She was a black leather and swords kind of chick.
“I think all the horny human boys will come face to face with their wet dream.” Wake chuckles.
“Gross.” Aria shakes her head.
“Are you sure you don’t want to cover up?” I ask trying not to notice she’d gone up a cup size. Fight it Thien. Fight it.
“Jealous I look better?” She quips.
That she did, but I didn’t want to tell her that and open Pandora’s box. “Dream on baby cakes.” I laugh.
It took two SUV’s for all of us to fit. I made sure to place someone between Aria and I. The last thing I need is for my manhood to give me away. Sitting in close proximity to her was bound to do just that.
I’ve never wanted anyone as much as I want Aria Bliss.
Focus. The music from Desiree’s house was blaring so loud you could hear it a few blocks away. Cars littered the streets leading up to her house and there were people spilling out of the house onto the front lawn.
We parked several houses away and made our way past the lawn littered with teens to the porch where we handed over our invitation.
“This invitation is just for one person.” We were told.
“Either we all get in, or we all leave.” I reply.
After thinking it over carefully…mostly staring at Aria, the guy at the front door lets us through. Of course he did. Something told me he’d see things my way. I motioned for Samara, code name Despair to get him on her good side in case we needed him for something later. He was interested in Aria, but even if she was willing to flirt with him, there was no way in hell I was going to let her.
“Hey.” Asher hurries over to talk to Aria.
These human boys are starting to irk me.
“Hey.” She replies. She went right back to ignoring him, and he stood there trying to find something else to say.
His eyes lower to Aria’s breasts and I about lose it. “Can we help you?” I ask, trying to disguise just how angry I am.
“Theodore, right?” He purposely butchers my name.
Two can play that game. “Actually its Thien, Jackass.” I glare at him.
“Its Asher.” He corrects me. He doesn’t like me and the feeling is DEFINITELY mutual.
“Its irrelevant is what it is.”
“Enough Thien.” Aria steps between us.
She places her hands against my chest to back me away but the close contact proves to be too much for me. Firmly, I grab her by the wrists and force her to stop touching me. It catches her off guard.
She gapes at me in wide-eyed astonishment. I would love to explain, except I don’t want to. I just want to leave. I want to get as far away from her as possible. Its better for both of us this way, but the pained expression on Aria’s face quickly makes me regret my decision.
The fellas follow me out back where girls in bikinis are in abundance.
Whatever helps take my mind off of Aria.
Wake likes to window-shop, but he and Despair have been going strong for a while now. We were all a bit surprised by that union. Mostly because they kept it a secret from the group for years before coming clean.
“Be responsible fellas. If you’re gonna play with human girls make sure you take a seal first. The Magistrate has a zero tolerance policy on procreating with them. Use protection.” I remind them. A seal is a pill that stops us from being able to reproduce for twenty-four hours. It’s a lot like the contraceptives humans use. It also takes the edge off our energy long enough for us to have our way with them.
“There you are.” Desiree and her friends make their way over to us. “Did I forget to mention this is a pool party? Also, I’m pretty sure I told you to leave the sand at home.”
Desiree motions towards Aria and the other girls. “You misunderstand. The sand isn’t for me. It’s for every other male here. That way I have you all to myself.” I wash over her with my eyes. She isn’t bad for a human. She has sun-kissed hair and a beautiful face. Both make up for her lack of curves and breasts, although the pushup she’s wearing is putting up a valiant effort.
“You should be in swim trunks and nothing else.” Desiree whispers into my ears.
“Where I come from, we swim naked.” I whisper back.
She blushes and bites down on her bottom lip. If this were three years ago, we’d both be naked in her parents’ room, but I have an angle and conquering her now would only defeat my purpose. I turn my attention to her friends. I elbow Hydro and he turns up the charm. It doesn’t take long for her friends Alison and Samantha to begin groveling at his feet. At some point he disappears with the two girls, running interference so I could spend some alone time with Desiree.
She shows me around her home hoping to impress me with the material wealth her family has acquired. I was taking in the beauty of her crystal blue eyes when my eyes caught sight of Noah. I follow his gaze over to Aria who is staring back at him. The way they are staring at each other doesn’t sit well with me.
I know they were once friends when she was younger, but watching them both now, I wonder if there may have been more. Whenever I’d press her about Noah, she’d always say there was nothing to tell, but there were rumors. Some say he was her first love while others chalk it up to just talk. Watching them now, I’m inclined to believe the rumors are true.
