Janet’s P. O. V:
School was over and I was about to exit the campus when a familiar voice caught my attention. Turning around I saw Kelly walking toward me. In just a few minutes, we were walking down the road as if we were long-lost friends who had reunited. She was really nice to talk to outside school because at school she was incredibly strict towards her juniors, except Jason of course.
As we were walking, she asked about Jason.
Yeah. As if I’m his caretaker.
Nevertheless I told her whatever I knew and unfortunately ended up blurting out about the challenge Ms Emily had given him. “Are you referring to the lady I saw at the pool?” she asked. I had no way out of that, I had to say yes.
Sorry Jason, I didn’t mean to do so.
“She was really pretty. Jason has lofty dreams. But don’t you think she might be a little too old for him?” she said.
“That’s exactly what he doesn’t realize.”
“But she didn’t seem like the type to fall for Jason.”
“Oh, you don’t know. I saw a few times that she also showed feelings”
“Eh, no way. Did he talk to you about this?”
“I didn’t let him do so. But I overheard him telling everything to George though. He never hides anything from George.”
“Oh, really? I thought that it was just him running behind her. Well this has been an interesting conversation. I look forward to meeting you often. I gotta go now, we’ll meet later,” she said as she got up to leave. I was a bit sure that I saw some anger in her face and her voice.
On the way home my rusty mind realised and brought up something.
Kelly was Jason’s first love and even after their relationship didn’t turn out well as she rejected his proposal, they remained friends. But even if Kelly was the one who rejected Jason at first, every time I saw her, she looked like she wanted Jason all for herself!
I told Jason that I’d support him but it seemed that I had helped the rival instead. I felt like a sorry excuse for a friend.
Kelly’s P. O. V:
“Are you okay Kelly? You seem depressed, something wrong?” asked Lucy as we left the college campus.
“No, it’s nothing” I said which she didn’t seem to buy. She was actually the only true friend of mine in the college.
“Is it because of Marcus?” she asked.
“Oh, no it’s actually because of another boy. Back then I didn’t have the courage to accept him even though I liked him” I said as Jason’s heartbroken face which I saw almost two years ago came in front of my eyes like it all happened yesterday.
“Are you referring to Jason?” asked Lucy.
She understood my mind perfectly.
“Yep. I wounded him but I thought he would continue to like me. I thought I could go to him anytime I wanted. I thought I could return there and he’d just accept me. It was really foolish of me to do such a thing because I wasn’t thinking straight and only thought about what was good for me.
But he now likes someone else. I’m now facing the reality that he has moved on - us unable to return to those good times we had together and the feeling that I’ll have to stay as an outsider forever. When I think about it, for some reason, I can’t bear it,” I said with tearful eyes.
[‘You sang to me’ by Marc Anthony]
Lucy just looked sympathetically for a while and then said, “It’ll be alright Kelly. Things like these happen for a reason. You’ll get to meet someone more precious to you, someone who can light up a brighter lamp of happiness in your heart.”
I only had one more thing to say. We almost reached my house. She was about to leave when I said, “Truth be told, that boy was the most precious…”
I made up my mind to start operation ‘Grab-the-prize-named-Jason’. I had to start somewhere but that somewhere wasn’t that hard to decide. The math teacher’s face popped up in my mind like a puppet, ready to be knocked out.
Emily’s P. O. V:
School was exceptionally boring particularly because Jason acted as if I was some invisible alien or something.
“Ms Emily” one of the office assistants called me.
“What’s wrong?” I asked.
“Nothing, there is a guest wanting to meet you in the visitors room”
I went there and saw Kelly sitting there.
What does she want?
“What is it Kelly?” I asked.
“My question may sound straight forward but I don’t know any other way of asking. Are you perhaps a psychopath?” she asked.
WHAT THE?! Damn this girl is rude! She sure has some guts asking me that question!
“Because I sure as heck wouldn’t go after a boy who is more than seven years younger than me,” she added.
So it’s about Jason…
“Oh about Jason, he is at the age where logic is at a dusty corner of the mind. And since he was cute, I humoured him.” I replied though I did not mean one word of it. I was already upset about Jason's reaction to my challenge.
“Since he was cute, you humoured him? Do you even realize that you are toying with his mind? To have made a bet to make him chase you, are you nuts?” she asked.
How did she know about that?!
“Who told you that?” I asked her and she retorted, “The source of the information is not important. What is important however is whether it is true or not.”
“I was just playing around” I said hoping she would buy it.
She didn’t.
“My, oh my, playing around? I didn’t know that. Guess I was impertinent and jumped to conclusions. Anyway, coming to my point; I was Jason’s first love but I was too foolish to accept him back then. However I have discovered my true feelings now so I’m gonna make him mine” she said.
The nerve of this girl!
“Are you perhaps being over-confident? You don’t even know if he likes someone else,” I said and to my dismay she immediately asked, “Are you perhaps wishing it’s you that he likes?”
Oops! Busted!
“N-No that’s n-not what I m-meant” I stuttered.
“That’s not my worry anyway, it’s not important. It won’t take me long to tear that obstacle or rather, that person apart.”
“So you know for sure that Jason will choose you?” I asked already beginning to shake with fright at that last sentence she said.
“If you don’t believe me, I’ll call him the day after tomorrow at eight o’clock to go out on a date with me and I’ll go to his home and directly speak to his father about me and him. Mr Jacob will surely accept me, no doubt about that. After that, chances are that you may get to see me and him kissing on a beach on our honeymoon.”
I am so regretting not carrying a knife or a gun with me!
[Love can be lethal!]
As she said those words and went away, reality slapped me, hard must I say. What she said was possible. Judging by the confidence in her voice, it was obvious that Jason’s father had a good impression about her. On the other hand, I hadn’t even met Mr Jacob personally. Besides that task was not so easy as I couldn’t just pop up in front of him and say, “Hi, I’m Emily. I love your son.” No, that’d be the death of me.
Fidgeting, walking around etc. effectively ruined my sleep that night.
A/N: Things are going to get a lot more fast paced from now on :D
Kelly has finally started her operation to snatch up Jason. And being obsessed with him, there's no limits to where she is going to go to make Jason come to her. Will Emily stay in the sidelines and watch Jason get carried away or is she gonna fight back?? Comment your opinions :)))
