"You going to homecoming?" Lyra asked me. I look up from my homework to see her twiddling with her fingers.
"Yeah, I'm going, why?"
"Me, Jack and few others were thinking of renting a limo for homecoming and we need to know how many people are going to be in our group." She pulls out a pencil and writes my name on a list. I lean my body over the table to see about 8 names on the list already.
"Who's all going to be in the group?"
"Well, me and Jack, Mary, Darren, Khadijah, Carlos, Kate, Andre and you of course. Also, if you and Myers work it out then he will be coming too. Speaking of Myers, have you talked to him yet." I let out a big sigh.
"No, I'm waiting for him to come in, but he hasn't yet." I tell her.
"Make sure you do it today, because we need to pay on the deposit today." I give her a nod.
"Speaking of Myers, did you hear what he did today?" She asked looking at her phone.
"What did he do?"
"Yesterday he beat up Will on the field." My eyes bulge open at what she said.
"Why would h-." I instantly stop my sentence realizing I know the reason why. "It's because of what happened at the blonde party, but that was weeks ago."
"Well apparently he doesn't might want to talk to him about that."
"Yeah."
"When are we going shopping for dresses?" She looked up at the ceiling trying to figure out the answer.
"Well Kate is setting something up where Mary, Khadijah, me and you all go together to get dresses. Everyone has confirmed that we will meet up at the mall this week except you." She said pulling her phone out showing me the invite. I pull out my phone to check my messages to see that I did get an invite. I send a confirmation to the group to let them know I'm coming.
"There I did it." I said showing her my phone.
"Good. Now look at these ideas that I found for my dress." She says as she pulls out pictures of dresses and lays them on the table. All of them are so beautiful it's hard to pick one out. "Now what we have here is three different types of dress. This first one is an elegant, evening gown dress. This red one is a good girl dress and the third one is bad girl on the town dress." She spoke.
The first one is a long baby blue satin dress that has spaghetti straps. The second one is a off-the-shoulder crimson red dress. It's short in the front and long in the back. The top of the dress has white jewels on the front and around the waist is a small bow. The third dress reveals quite a lot. It's a strappy satin lavender dress with lavender sequins.
"So, which one do you like?" She asks holding up the pictures. I think long and hard and point to the second one. "Ok the third one it is." She puts the pictures back in her backpack.
"Why ask for my opinion then?" I responded back to her with my hands up in a 'huh' gesture.
"I knew you would pick the 'good girl' dress and not to go with it." I roll my eyes at her comment. Turning around I see Myers walking in the building.
"Myer's is here I got to go." I collect all my things and run over to this locker. I wait behind his locker door when he closes it and sees me his eyes look at me in surprise.
"How have you been?" I asked him crossing my arms.
"Fine." He responded back.
"You never called me back yesterday something happen?" I asked him crossing my arms.
"Look... I just have a lot going on." He throws his backpack in his locker and start to take out his books.
"Like what? Maybe that you have another girlfriend on the side." I said leaning closer to him. He looks at me with confusion on his face.
"Quinn what are you talking about?"
"Oh, I bet you know what I'm talking about. A few days ago, me and Lyra went to go drop off our applications to the Tribune and we saw you across the street with some girl. You kissed her on the cheek." His eyes widen letting me know he knew exactly what I was talking about.
"Look it's not a big deal." He spoke.
"Not a big deal. I have told you countess times that I don't want Alexander I want you. Then when I think you are ignoring me because of the Alexander stitch it's because you are cheating on me." I let out a big breath.
"Also, you fought Myer! What the hell is wrong with you?" I asked him infuriated. He slams his locker and turns to face me.
"He touched you at The Blondes party and you didn't think to tell me?" He asked veins popping out his neck.
"It wasn't that big of a deal and Alexander took care of it."
"See that's the problem Alexander took care of it I'm tired of him being around."
I roll my eyes at him and scuff.
"Why is it that he gets to protect you and I can't?"
"I never said that you couldn't." I say stepping closer to him.
"I'm your boyfriend I should be protecting you not him, and the one you should be telling stuff too like this."
"It happened when we weren't even together, plus it was water under the bridge. You know what I don't have time for this we are on break." I cut my eyes at him. I swiftly turn around and walk away from him. Walking to the gym, I see Lyra leaned up against a pillar most likely waiting for me.
"So, did you guys make up. Is he going to homecoming with us?" She asks eagerly.
"Actually no. We are on a break. I will be going to homecoming alone I don't need a date." I tell her linking arms as we walk off to gym.
"That piece of garbage. Are you alright?" She asked with worry in her voice.
"I'm perfect." I tell her. Myers has to get over Alexander there is nothing going on. That whole thing with Will happened days ago and he apologized to me.
"Got that right."
"So, what did Myer's say when you asked about the kiss with that girl." Lyra asked putting on her gym socks.
"Well, he didn't deny it." I responded back to her tying my hair up.
"Guys can be douches."
"Tell me about it."
Before she could respond back to me our gym teacher walks out of her office with a clipboard. We all turn to her to see what she has to say.
"Girls as you know homecoming will be here in two weeks. If you want to be on the homecoming committee sign up on this clip board. Cynthia takes the clip board and pass it around. After you guys are done meet me on the field." She says handing the clip board to Cynthia and walking out onto the field.
"I'm going to sign up, are you?" I asked Lyra.
"Yes totally." She responds back to me. The clipboard comes around to her. "Want me to sign your name?"
"Yeah, please." I sit on the bench tying my shoes while Lyra signs me and her name on the clipboard. "Now let's go and get this lap done." She groans and heads out the door after giving the clipboard to another student.
Myer's P.O.V.-
"YOU TOOK A BREAK WITH HER!" I hear Sasha scream over the phone.
"She saw me downtown with you I couldn't deny it. Also, I beat up a guy named Will that made a move on her at a party." I responded to her.
"Myers, she's not even your real girlfriend, you can't get too involved. And beating up some weak guy really?"
"I have to play the part of the jealous boyfriend for it to be believable. Now what are we going to do?" I asked her
"You may not be dating her right now, but you can still hang around her. See how she is around Alexander and if she's showing any signs of the zastitnik." She tells me. "You can't fail, my father will have your head, then mine."
"I won't fail you, I promise."
I hang up the phone and head back into this lame ass school. Just a couple more weeks and I'll be done with this.
Couple days later...
"Hey what did you get for number 3?" I asked Lyra.
"I got 48.2." She said responding back to me. Currently we are in Lyra's room doing homework.
"Now what did you get for number 6?" Lyra asked.
"34." I spoke back to her. "I'm finally done." I open up my bag and put my homework inside. Laying back on Lyra's bed, Iwait for her to get done with her homework.
"What are you doing this weekend?" Lyra asked finishing up the last few word problems on the math homework.
"I have the date with Alexander and no work so that's it." I said leaning up from her bed. "What about you?"
"Well, I have to work at the clinic all week so yeah." She closed her book and sat it on her nightstand. "Doc's got us working around the clock since we have all those new strays."
"Are they cute?"
"So cute. There's this one puppy I call him poncho and he's a beagle with these furry flappy ears. I would take him home, but my mom doesn't want an animal in the house."
"Bummer."
Suddenly my phone starts to ring, then Lyra's start to ring. We both look at each other, then we go and answer our phones.
"Hello." We both say at the same time.
"Is this Quinneth Margarette Worthingshire?" A woman asked on the phone.
"Yes, this is she."
"Congratulations you have been picked for the internship. The internship starts tomorrow at noon. If you have any questions just call this number."
"Yes! Uh thank you so much and yes I'll call if I have questions." I say ecstatically.
"Alright honey you have a good day."
"You too." I hang up the phone and turn to Lyra with a big smile on my face. She turns to me with the same look.
"I GOT THE INTERNSHIP!" We both say at the same time.
"Good for you." I tell her.
"No good for you."
We both rise from her bed and jump up and down in excitement. Lyra's door flings open we look towards the door to see her mom.
"What's going on in here are you girls ok?" She asked worry written all over her face.
"Mom were fine we got the internship at The Tribune." She told her.
"Wow I'm so proud of you guys make sure you work hard."
"We will Ms. Berkely."
"Quinneth I'm making lasagna for dinner so if you want to stay you can." She says to me.
"That would be nice thank you."
"Ok I'll go phone your Grandfather tell him that you're staying." She steps out of the room and heads downstairs.
"This is going to be so fun." We both say at the same time.
