"Ida I'll do that for you, after all it's what I'm here for." I tell her.
"Are you sure I mean I can do it myself." She speaks.
"It's fine Ida, I got it." She hands me the spray bottle and cloth and I begin washing the glass.
"So, I haven't seen you in a while what have you been up to?" She asks while pushing up her glasses.
"Well really just school and more school. Tomorrow my class is going to Germani Enterprises to see how business works. Also, I have a date tonight." I turned the cloth over and began cleaning on the bottom glass.
"Finally, I never thought you would get a date." She says in a surprising tone.
"Are you sure you and Lyra aren't the same person?" I ask her.
She laughs at my response and hands me a new cloth. I hand her the dirty one and she gives me a new one. I bend down and wipe the barriers of the glass.
"I am positive. I remember my first date. His name was Jimmy Daniels. He was not only cute but very popular. He took me to the local diner in our town called frenzy fries. It was the worst first date ever." She speaks.
"What did he do that so bad?" I asked curiously.
"He was dense and he only talked about himself the whole time. Then I heard from my friends after he dropped me off, he went to another girls house." She replied back to me.
"Are you serious? That's terrible. I hope Myers doesn't do that to me." I spoke.
He is kind of a popular guy and all the girls do flirt with him. Could just be going out with me to make fun of me? I don't really hang out with anyone except for Lyra and if Jacks around then Jack.
"Honey that's one in a million it won't happen to you." She pats me on the leg and goes back into the store. I finish cleaning the windows and walk inside the store. I throw the dirty rags in the basket and put the spray on the shelf. The store actually has people in it today mostly older people most likely looking for old art. For the rest of the day, I sit behind the desk working on school work while Ida was in the back doing the books. I check my phone to see it's 5:00 I grab my bag and yell to Ida I'm leaving. She wishes me good luck on my date and I get in my car and head on over to Lyra's house. I really do hope she found me a nice dress.
I know that I asked for slutty but do I really want slutty? I don't want Myers to think I'm cheap or something. 20 minutes later I pulled up to her house. Lyra has a very nice house it's a Tudor home. I walk up the driveway to be welcomed by windchimes and the smell of roses. Lyra's mother loves to garden a lot she's always giving me and Grandfather flowers which we greatly appreciate. The windchimes she says makes her feel 'at one with the birds'. I knock on her brown oak door to be welcomed by her little brother Max.
I give him a smile and ruffle his hair. Max is 8 years old with two missing teeth. To lyra's he's 'the demon spawn of Satan'. He's always getting into her makeup and trashing her room up. I don't have any siblings so I can't relate thank God.
"Hey Max where's Lyra at?" I ask him while he twirls in a circle.
"She's in her room most likely talking to her boyfriend." he says in a disgusting tone. I laugh at him and head to Lyra's room. "Lyraina, Quinn's here!" He screams to Lyra as she screams at him for saying her full name.
"CALL ME THAT AGAIN AND I'LL CUT YOU TO PIECES!" I belch out a laugh and walk into her room to see her on the floor painting her feet aqua blue.
"HEY, you're supposed to have dresses out or something." I tell her with my hands up.
She finishes painting her last toe and hangs on to her bed post to stand up. She wobbles over to the closet and starts to take out some dresses.
"I can't work if the muse isn't here, that's you Harlequin in case you are wondering." She responds back to me while handing dresses to me from her closet. "Look at those and see if you like any of them".
I sit all the dresses on her bed and observe them all. The first one I lay my eyes on is a black mini dress with holes in the cut-out shape of hearts on the side, that's a no. The next one is purple dress with an oval cut out in the breast part, too club-like. The third one is red long dress, not the right occasion.
"Lyra none of these dresses are doing anything for me." I tell her as I turn around to see her walking over with one dress in particular.
"I think this is perfect for you." She says to me as she puts it up to my body. We turn together to her purple mirror covered with stickers. My eyes widen at the dress with awe, it's quite beautiful. It's a silk black dress with straps on it. It's simple but perfect for the date.
"I love it, it's beautiful and perfect." I say while gawking at the dress.
"Perfect babe, go to the bathroom freshen up and I'll find the clothes and jewelry." She tells me while shooing me to the bathroom. I shut the door to the bathroom and get busy. I freshen up my mouth with mouth wash and cleaned my face. Jumping in the shower I do a quick scrub down and throw on clean undergarments, some new ones that Lyra hasn't worn thank God. I head out the bathroom with a robe on to find Lyra laying the dress, shoes and jewelry on the bed for me.
"Hey sit down so I can do your hair. "She tells me as she gets her hair items. I sit in her swivel chair. Can't wait to see the transformation.
"So did you get your jacket back?" Lyra asked while grabbing her brushes and combs out of her purple bin.
"Yes, I did."
"So, give me the Deets."
"Well, we sat in my backyard and ate cookies on my porch."
"And." She said trying to rush me to say more.
"ANDDD... we almost kissed, but my grandpa came and broke up the kiss." She groans out in agony and throws one of her brushes on the bed. "When I see him, he's going down."
"You're going to fight my elderly grandpa." I asked her quite amused.
"If I have to, yes."
"Just do my hair."
40 minutes later...
"OK look in the mirror and tell me what you think." Lyra says.
I turn to the mirror and my jaw drops to the ground, who is this person? The dress hugs my body perfectly complementing the black heels. My hair slings over my shoulder in loose curls and Lyra's golden earrings that she let me borrow reflect off the mirror. A golden heart necklace hangs from my neck.
"Lyra, I look... Fuckable!" I scream out with a smile on my face. I don't really use profanity, but honest to God I actually look fuckable. I haven't dressed up in years.
"If I wasn't dating Jack, I would totally tap that." She says with a smirk on her face and a lifted brow, I don't think she's joking.
I squished my face up at Lyra shaking my head at her, she's really something.
I gave her a hug and thanked her for dressing me up and doing my hair she pats me on the back and tells me that one day I'm going to owe her and I know I am it's Lyra she's lets nothing go. As I head out the front door, she tried to hike up my dress telling me that I'm not showing enough leg I angrily pushed her hand away to tell her to stop it God she really is something you know but I love her.
20 minutes past and I'm heading down the empty road to the restaurant where I'm going to meet Myers. Wow this is my first date I'm 17, a junior in high school, and this is my first date. I mean what do I do on this date what do I talk about I mean I'm interesting, but is he going to want to hear what I have to say I mean obviously he's going to want to hear what I have to say he asked me out. Quinneth what the heck is wrong with you? I stop at a red light on Chestnut Street before the light turns green, I pick up my phone from the passenger seat in to see if I have any message. 0 messages. I sit it back in the seat and remain driving.
30 minutes later...
I pull my car in the parking space at the restaurant I look around, there isn't really a lot of cars here meaning there isn't a lot of people here so just in case I embarrass myself nobody will see me. I head on in the restaurant and a whiff of seafood wafts my nose, it smells so good. The smell of catfish and shrimp it's going to be a good night. I head over to the front desk to check the reservation. She kindly escorted me to the table, we have a booth by the window I sit down and adjust my dress and wait for Myers.
While waiting for him I lean my head over to the window and look up at the midnight sky the moon is at a lunar eclipse, the stars are bright as a diamond. I find myself always looking at the moon and the stars, something about it calms me down. I fumble with my fingers it's been about 20 minutes now he still isn't here where is he? Somewhere deep down inside I knew this was going to happen I mean nobody ever asked me out it's not farfetched that he would stand me up. I look around the restaurant again looking to see if he's here and he still isn't. I knew this was too good to be true. Maybe he's stuck in traffic you know this is a small town but there is awful lot of car crashes I'll give him an hour he'll be here by then I know he will.
1 hour later...
It's been over an hour he still isn't here. For this to be my first date it isn't going the way I planned. I grab my purse and head out of the restaurant to my car. The wind blows the locks of hair across my skin and slays against my bare legs. I can't believe he didn't show up, how embarrassing to sit in a restaurant by yourself watching other couples all happy and eating pasta like the lady and the tramp while I sit off to the side like a stray dog looking in to what I could possibly have. Arriving to my car, I hop in and head down the open road. This town is so small that everyone literally goes to bed at the same time so no one is actually on the road.
With it being a benefit that no one is one the road there is a lot of wolfs and deer's that be in the street at night so I came to a conclusion that it is rather better to be driving when the lights out. I see the red light so I stop at the light, tapping my finger against the rim of my steering wheel I look up at the sky and see the full moon out. I know that full moons are associated with wolfs and stuff, but besides that the moon is so beautiful. Untouched my man and unhabituated it's just in the sky creating tides and giving us a light in the dark. If you can't rely on anyone you can always on the moon to shine a light on you when your light is dim. The light turns green and I proceed down the dark, foggy road.
Within 20 minutes I arrive at the house. Grandfather is in downtown with his friends partying, so I'm alone for tonight. For him to be in his 60's he parties like he's in his 20's. Hell, I wonder who the adult and the teenager are. I take my keys out of the ignition while grabbing my purse and heading to the quiet but quaint house. Unlocking the door, I immediately turn the lights on I get so scared when it's dark feels like someone is going to capture me. I stand in the foyer of the doorway and just stop there. I look around as the emptiness surrounds me. Not a foot moving nor a pillow falling just me listening to my breath cascade out of my mouth.
The only constant, the only thing that won't let me down. In the distance I hear a sort of scratching at the back door my head wipes in that direction as I began to walk with a pep in my step to see what the noise is. I arrive at the back door to see a furry body on the wooden steps. I edge closer to the unknown figure my eyes widen with disbelief, it's the wolf. With haste I open the door and kneel down to him, I don't know what came over me but I gave him a big hug. The weirdest part is that I actually liked it maybe it was because I actually missed him or because I just got dumped and no is here for me to hug. I let go of him to let it have some breathing space. Those big green eyes glare at me, almost like it's trying to read me find my deepest and darkest secrets and desires.
"What are you doing here, you left me remember?" I tell it while readjusting my position. Originally, I was just bending down now I am fully sitting on the wooden steps of the porch. I swear to everything I just saw a smirk plastered on his face. We sit there for about 30 minutes while I rant to him about how Myers stood me up and how I couldn't wait to see him in person so I could tell him off. The wolf rested his head next to my legs and looked up at me as though he understood everything I was saying. I start to get tired of my own voice and tell him to go on home. He reluctantly got up and walked into the dark to not be seen again for the rest of the night.
"God, I need to go to sleep."
