"Ok so let me get this straight." Lyra said as she musters to put everything together. "So, you and Alexander were having a good dinner then Myers came and dragged you away. He was hurting you and Alexander came out of nowhere and beat up Myers. You guys went to your house, repaired his hands then kissed under the great conjunction." She lets out a breath as saying all that was a lot. "OH! And he gripped your ass."
"Yes." I tell her with a nod.
"Damn, and I thought my life had drama. You win." She says patting her legs and grabbing her bag. "So, what are you guys now since there's no more you and Myers?" She asked as we proceeded to walk back to the classroom with our project.
"I told him that I didn't want a relationship just yet. I just got out of one I don't want to get into another." I say readjusting the poster board in my arms.
"True. So, you would consider getting into a relationship with him?"
"I... Would actually. He's just so good to me. He listens, appreciates me and hasn't hurt me."
"Well, whatever you do I support you." I give her a smile. We enter into the classroom; kids surround the room talking with each other and hanging around. We walk to the back of the room and lay the poster board down on the counter.
In a few minutes we are about to be let out of school. The teachers have a big meeting with the big heads after school so we are allowed to leave school early.
"You wanna hang?" I asked Lyra.
"Can't. Me and Jack are going to drive up to San Francisco." She speaks.
"For what?" We walk out of the classroom heading down the hallway.
"The weather's nice today so we were thinking of going to the beach. See." She opens up her bag and shows me her bathing suit. It's a purple bathing suit with white polka dots all over it.
"Cute suit."
"Thanks."
We walk out of the school door into the parking lot. Kids scatter all around trying to leave as quickly as possible.
"What are you going to do?" Lyra asked as we walk over to Jack's truck.
"Ida's out of town so I don't have to work. I may just go home and watch tv." She throws up the letter L with her fingers. I roll my eyes at her. As we continue talking, Jack walks over to us.
"Hey Quinn. You coming with us?" He asked pulling Lyra close to him while kissing her on the temple. She cuddles up close to him, basking in his touch.
"No. You guys have a good time. See you tomorrow." I wave them off and walk to my car.
Being single means, I have a lot of free time. I would hang with my Grandpa but he's out, somewhere.
Walking up to my car I see someone leaned up against it. Getting closer, I see that it's Alexander. His arms are crossed, flexing his biceps.
"What are you doing here? Not that I don't want to see you it's just, I thought you would have already left." He leaned off my car while walking up to me.
"I wanted to see if you wanted to hang out." His eyes bear into mine hoping I would say yes. "Friend."
"How do you know I don't have nothing to do?" I asked him leaning closer while lifting my eyebrow.
"Do you have something to do. Better than hanging with me?" His eyes revert down to me as he rubs his lips together. My eyes focus on his lips, he just likes to provoke me.
I tear my gaze away and focus on what to say next. "No, I don't. Meet me at Burg-oh-wow it's on Madison Street." He nods at me and walks over to his car. I throw my bag in the passenger's seat and head on down the road. Guess I have something to do after all.
Location: Burg-oh-wow
Pulling up to Burg-oh-wow I already see Alexander's car in the parking lot. How did he get here so quick? Parking my car, I grab my purse and walk inside the restaurant. I forgot he has a sports car that goes like 100 miles faster than my car.
Looking around, I see Alexander sitting in a booth towards the back on his phone.
"Looks like you beat me here." I tell him while sliding into the booth.
"Someone's slow." He responds back while chuckling. I roll my eyes and shrug him off. "You not going to look at the menu to see what you're going to order." He says glazing over the menu.
"Believe it or not I come here all the time. I know the menu like the back of my hand." I say in confidence.
"Oh really? What's the first lunch special?" He asked quizzing me.
"Two Burg-oh-bang burgers with your choice of fries or onions for 5.99". He looks at me impressed.
"Impressive." He responds back to me.
"I know." I say flipping my hair.
"Hey Quinn." Someone says across the diner. I see that it's Lyle with a girl and two guys. Must be his friends from his Catholic school.
"Hi Lyle. Are you spying on me?" I asked him jokingly.
"You wish." He says pulling me into a hug. Behind me, I hear someone let out a deep growl, must be Alexander. I look down to see him clenching his hand against the side of the dinner table. Letting go of him, I take in his appearance. He's wearing a red blazer with black slacks and brown shoes.
"Did you have early release too?" I asked him.
"Yeah, we did. I'm just hanging out with friends today. No work thanks to god." He said holding up prayer hands. Off to the side, I hear Alexander clearing his throat. Oh, I forgot to introduce him.
"Sorry. Lyle this is my friend Alexander. Alexander this is Lyle." Lyle smiles at Alexander as he holds his hand out to shake it. Looking at him then his hand he reluctantly shakes it.
"Wow! What a handshake. You work out?" Lyle asks while prying his hand away from his.
"Everyday." He says while putting his arm on the table, flexing his bicep. God I can't stand him.
Lyle looks at Alexander with a weird look then look towards me, a smile dances back on his face.
"Well got to get back to the group. I'll be seeing you tomorrow." He pats me on the shoulder and walks back to his table. I stand there with a smile on my face as he becomes more distant. I turn around to Alexander with an angry look on my face.
"What is wrong with you? Do you have to be so intimidating?" I asked while sliding back in the seat.
"He clearly likes you. The way he hugged you was too much."
"WHAT! It was a hug and he's just works with me at The Tribune. You can't have a vendetta with every single guy I talk to." I tell him.
"I can and I will."
"Whatever let's order." I say as I usher our waitress over.
20 minutes later...
"This is actually really good food." He takes another bite out of his burger while licking his fingers.
"I know. It's food from the gods I swear." As we finish up with our food Alexander pays for the meal and we walk over to my car.
"I had a good time with you today. You may want to hang tomorrow?" He asked eagerly.
"Well, I have to work at The Tribune tomorrow, but maybe after we can hang call me at like 4:00." I open up my car and throw my bag in it. Turning back to him I find him ever so closely to me. His minty breath fans over my cheek.
I did something that was very out of my character. I gently take hold of his face and plant a soft kiss on his cheek. I let my lips linger on his it as his hands hold on to my hips. I felt that I needed to be near him, to feel his hands on me. Like the night we kissed under the great conjunction. I can feel his fingers circling my hips, slow and taunting circles.
My lips gently leave his cheek as I look into his eyes. The grey specks swarm around in them, his mouth open in shock and adoration. "I'll be waiting for that call." I let go of him and get into my car. I drive out of the parking lot and head on back home. I know a kiss on the cheek is nothing, but it was me showing my passion for him. I'm sure he got the picture.
Walking into The Tribune my phone starts to ring. I dig into my purse to find my phone, through the gum wrappers and change I finally found it. Looking at the caller ID a smile forms on my face, it's Alexander.
"Hey who's that?" Lyra asked as she signs her name on the sheet.
"Alexander." I tell her. She stares at me with googly eyes while making kissy noises with her mouth.
"Get out of here." I tell her while pushing her towards the basement.
"Fine, bye." She waves me off.
Once she's gone, I answer the phone. "Hello."
"Hey after your done working? Dobyou want to hang out?" He asked.
"Yeah, we can hang out. We have to be at my house, because once I leave it's going to be dark." I say while signing my name on the sign-up sheet. Putting down the pen, I walk through the glass double doors to the elevator. I hate driving at night, there's animals and stuff that run out on the road at night I wouldn't want to hit anything or crash.
"Inviting me to your house, so soon." He said over the phone in a flirty voice. I laugh at his comment while readjusting my purse as I wait for the elevator to come down.
"Whatever. See you at 7:00 bye." Hanging up the phone the elevator finally comes down and I head on in. Before I'm able to press the elevator to the 5th floor I hear someone screaming for me to hold the elevator.
I hold the sides of the doors. I wait for the person to come on the elevator, hopping on I see that it's Lyle.
"Hey, you alright?" I asked him as he looked all disoriented.
"Fine. I just had to drop my sister off at her friend's house, then all my stuff dropped out of my bag in the parking lot."
"Dang, you had a day." Pressing the button, we head up to the fifth floor.
"I just want to get this work done so I can go home." He responded back letting out a breath I'm sure he's been holding on to.
The elevator opens up to the fifth floor and we head on in the office. As we open the doors, a bunch of people are walking around frantically. Phones are ringing off the hook, papers flying everywhere.
"What's going on here?" I asked Lyle. He looks at me quizzically letting me know he has no idea.
Our boss, Ms. Timmons walks up to us with papers in her hands. "Look someone just spotted a werewolf on the side of the road by the restaurant 'Bangs'. There's video footage of the whole thing happening." She said winded.
"A werewolf? Those aren't real." Lyle tells her.
"Turns out they are. I'm as shocked as you are. I need the both of you to clear out this whole area for tomorrow. We are having an interview with the guy who sent in the story, we will be the first newspaper to break the story this will be big for us." She points to the room in the corner that has a lot of boxes and stuff in the way. That's going to take us a while.
"This day gets better and better." Lyle tells me while sitting his bag on the ground.
We walk over to the various items that are in the room and start to move them out. There's a bunch of boxes, old machines and various Knick knacks in here.
"When I walked into the building, I tried to call your name, but you didn't answer." He grunts out as he lifts a box and moves it outside the room. I thought I heard someone calling my name in the lobby, but I just thought I was hearing things. You ever think you hear someone call your name and it's just the wind? That's what I thought it was, the wind.
"Sorry, I was on the phone. If I heard you, I would have talked to you." I say reassuring him that I'm not rude or anything.
"I get it. So, who were you on the phone with?" He asked curiously out the corner of his eye. I pick up a sign that says 'the bomb' and move it out the room. Weird things in here for a News paper station.
"It was Alexander. The guy you met yesterday at the diner." He stares at me weirdly until he makes a face letting me know he remembers who he is.
"Oh yeah, the guy who scolded me the whole time and works out every day." He said mocking Alexander's voice. I laugh at his rendition of him.
"Yep, that's him. I'm sorry that he was so rude yesterday. He likes me and you know how you guys can be." I speak.
"Protective. Dominant." He says finishing up my sentence. "All the characteristics of a werewolf."
"Right." I take a break and lean up against one of the boxes. He also takes a break with me. "He's really a nice guy... Truly." I add on.
"You don't have to convince me. I would be protective over you to." His eyes scan over my face.
"And I would be protective over you to." I say mocking his voice. He rolls his eyes at me and picks up a couple signs behind him.
"A werewolf in St. Helena." I said changing the conversation.
"I know right. I'm sure it's a hoax or something. A human transitioning into a wolf! You would die." Lyle responds to me. "For years people have been going around saying they've seen werewolves in St. Helena. The sign into town literally says, 'welcome to St. Helena: sighting of the werewolf.'
It actually says that. With everyone saying they've seen a werewolf it makes you think that it may be true.
"For a moment let's believe it's real. How cool would that be." Lyle pauses for a second and imagines it.
"It would be cool. Being able to run fast, have strong hearing and eyesight. Why would they live here though nothing is happening in St. Helena."
"Come on let's get this over with so I can go home and eat. I'm starving." We both get up and began moving stuff again.
1 Hour later...
After moving 30 boxes, 10 signs and various items we were finally done. We look towards the door to see Ms. Timmons walking in, her facial expression is of a shocked person. Did she not think that we could move all that stuff?
"I honestly didn't think that you guys would move all this stuff in a short time. Good Job, you can go on home now." She gives us two thumbs up and walks out the door down the hall.
We both grab our bags and head to the elevator. Me, Lyle and a couple others pile up in the elevator down to the 1st floor.
Once the elevator open, we all scatter out into our own directions. Me and Lyle both head in the same direction.
"What is on the agenda tonight for Ms. Worthingshire?" Lyle asked saying my last name in a British voice.
"Well, I'm hanging with Alexander tonight." I reply back to him.
"Well, when you see him tell him I said hi. See you next week." He pats me on the back and heads into the dark parking lot. Over to my right, I see Lyra walking up to me.
"Ready to go?" I ask her.
"Totally, I'm so tired." She leans her head on my shoulder as we walk out the door.
"Me too."
